Couple things to note: I am not much of a Content Creator, therefore the editing is nonexistent... The video may jump around a bit because I had to do a few cuts due to issues. I don't play MSFS a lot, and I definitely don't fly helicopters in it very often, so I may mess some things up here and there. I had some issues with the startup procedure. Like I said, I fly the F model Chinook. It uses different engines and a different startup procedure than the D with the 712 engines which seems to be modeled here. Still, the startup procedure is greatly simplified and has a few deviations from the TM of the D model equipped with these engines. I also have issues with the flight model, but that is likely due to limitations of the current MSFS way of handling helicopters. I think Miltech Simulations did a good job of getting this aircraft as close as they could with these limitations. A few things I'd like to see, (some may be addressed with the new Sim update which will include Tandem Rotor Physics): Better flight modeling including realistic AFCS functionality/turn coordination. LCT functionality. Better representation of stick position indications on the Stick Position Indicator. More accurate representation of rotor system cyclic/collective pitch changes, and just more accurate movement in general. Sling Load physics modeling, (probably not likely). Load oscillations would be nice. Longer hook up times! External Loads are hooked up way too fast. I can assure you that it does not happen that quickly, and would add a bit of challenge for the pilots if they increased the hookup time. PTU sounds and realistic hydraulic functionality, I talk about this a lot in the video but kinda a big issue for me at least. Better ground handling. Engine/Transmission Pressure/Temperature indications need some work. Torque indications need to be fixed. Few issues with the startup procedure that I covered in the video. Once again, not trying to criticize Miltech here. I fully understand that they likely did their best with what they had available to them. Thanks!

Hey! First of all thanks a lot for the video. Any sort of feedback is always greatly appreciated and will allow us to continue improving the product. Some of the details you mention here are either a known issue or a limitation of the current FM (eg. anything related to torque, engine values, ECLs, etc.) and will be addressed shortly after SU15. Other simplifications are made for entertainment and ease of use - eg. limiting the sling load times to 5secs. Other simplifications are done just due to complexity and falling beyond the scope of this product (eg. trim coordination). Overall, there are lots of interesting things we can grab from the video as good feedback and that can be addressed in upcoming updates!

@miltechsimulations hey thanks a lot for checking out the video! I appreciate your response, and once again I hope some of my critiques didn't come across as overly harsh. I understand the need for a balance between a full fidelity simulation, and an enjoyable experience. In that regard, maybe add an option to the EFB to do things such as increase slingload hookup times? Could be a nice option for those who desire a bit more of a challenge. I look forward to more updates and fidelity offered by the new aerodynamics coming to MSFS. I'll definitely keep my eye on it and have decided I'm going to do a few more videos addressing some of my initial issues, and discussing some more procedural things. Hopefully with some better formatting and audio as well! Thanks again.

Enjoyed the in depth content man, subscribed and looking forward to more vids. As an ex Air Force crew chief I'm a nerd for acft systems knowledge. Side note, as I'm also a new flightsim youtuber and have put out a couple Chinook vids I would be down to do a collab Chinook video and be your wingman.

Rheostat knobs and most rotating knobs in general, in MSFS. Click and hold right/left side of switch to begin rotatin > Scroll mouse wheel at the same time to turn the knob much faster. Some Aicraft allows you to hold Shift in any combination to get even more rotation speed (Scroll + Sift or Click & hold + Shift or Scroll + Click & Hol + Shift)

Great video, nice to have an insight into the 47 from the perspective of an actual Pilot of her. In another life I'm certain I'd be doing the same, always wanted to be a pilot, life regrets eh.. Also excellent that Miltech has taken notice of your video too! Can't wait to see her in DCS, I'll be sure to check that one out. All the best in your career bud, take it easy and fly safe. Love this bird so really appreciate the time you spent on this and the level of detail. Many thanks. Did a bunch of insertions in this bird in several theatres but don't know enough to be sure which variants. My service dates would suggest the D. I'd like to hear more about the sounds as this just isn't what i remember. Looking fwd to your vids on the DCS model.

Great video! Your narration is excellent and the attention to detail and real-world experience makes for a fascinating watch. Easy subscribe from me. I'm sure the upcoming DCS CH-47 will be far more sophisticated, but I hope you'll find time to revisit this product after Miltech incorporates SU15 into the flight model. And of course, thank you for your service! Safe flying out there!

I had the same issue when starting #2. Got confused for like 5 minutes before I just tried it with #2 pumps on and that solved it. They did a decent job of scratching that itch of having ole girl in a flight sim. Definitely can't wait for the DCS model. I feel like that one is going to be very good.

Great video! Lots of in-depth coverage of the cockpit and flight controls. I've also recently bought the model and have to agree it doesn't fly correctly, I was like 'why am I having to use the yaw pedals in forward flight?' as you say hopefully it'll be fixed when MSFS update the flight models. I'm also really looking forward to the DCS version. Regards terminology, the RAF will use Collective/Thrust lever interchangeably. Looking forward to more content.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insight on this - really interesting stuff Looks like plenty of things for Miltech to work on but they seem to be pretty responsive to taking/implementing feedback. I imagine there will be a few bumps to work through initially when the tandem rotor support goes into MSFS shortly. Interesting points about the trim and pedal use in the real thing. I was asking about that on Avsim this week. Looking forward to another run through after the next round of Miltech updates. Since you mentioned not really being "a flightsim guy" or using MSFS much, a few tips. The default camera view from the pilot's seat for most aircraft is unfortunately a case of the old fisheye lens effect. You can set custom camera views in the sim's Options panel. You can also map the various Instrument Panel views to keys, or just cycle through them in the cockpit with Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 etc.

Coming from a fellow aviator, you did pretty good considering the startup procedure and checklist is a bit wonky, i mostly fly the heritage Cold War and Vietnam war aircraft, and a few WW2 aircraft, but the UH-1 and the CH-47 (the first variation) are mainly the ones i fly, but seeing this startup is more relative to the older style setups like you said, but you did a kick ass job considering you fly the Fox model haha!

This was a great review, thanks a lot for your time! From other videos and reviews I was thinking this was a better product. What I see is a very low-fidelity add-on with added bells and whistles to make it more attractive to the users. There is a lot to be fixed and I don't think miltech will be interested, the product is probably not aimed for those that expect more realism.

Could you do a review of a rotary wing aircraft in DCS? As far as my knowledge goes the MI24, UH-1 and AH-64 are some of the most realistic renditions in publically available flight sims. I'd love to see your opinions.

Nice job without a sexy thumbnail and I was hoping for some "real world" input. Miltech should reach out to you unless they have plenty of SMEs now, but haven't seen it in MSFS yet compared to DCS and the "keyboard" SMEs trolls. Many limitations for helos in MSFS still and Miltech seems to understand that with the current sim. Former Black Hawk driver that helps with both MSFS and DCS mods of that platform, many devs love to have real world input as long as you understand the sim limits. The -10 doesn't always explain systems for non-pilots.

My honest opinion i belive they will get this all correct in the next sim theres so many limitations on this one but my biggest issues with this heli and yes i hate to say it.... The sound im okay with the background whine it whatever but if i pull a sharp 2g turn or something i expect to hear a bunch of slapping but it seems to just keep the same sound the whole time ill get it after i get that flyinside classic 206.

Great reviewing. Really wanted this.....but now i don't as you clearly don't rate it very highly. The Chinook is an icon of the air and we must at least feel it's remotely realistic....especially for £30 is it. If they fix all your issues i'd love to hear your second review on it. I'm not an ultra study aircraft snob.....but seems like some pretty basic stuff missing, like shape, bend in rotor, sounds, cargo, flight dynamics, lifting dynamics

15% N1 before moving ECL to GRND I’m an old D model hooker FE , we didn’t have line of sight guards and yeah those ECL’s are way too small . I wouldn’t fly on that thing anyway .. don’t see a single drop of hydraulic fluid 😊
