Top civil servants could face the sack if they do not deliver savings for the taxpayer under rules announced by the Government on Thursday.
The change, which would see top mandarins held personally responsible for achieving savings in their departments, are part of a number of reforms to how the Civil Service manages performance.
Political journalist Henry Hill joins Talk’s Ian Collins to discuss this further.

"We'll have money to spend on the priorities of the British people" Does that include winter fuel allowance for the elderly, the people that have paid into the system all their lives? They seem to have plenty of money to spend on immigrants, people who have never contributed a penny.

You can chuck all the money they want at the NHS, but without having a high trust society it will always fail. Money isn’t the cure. A cohesive society is, and we no longer have that

Trump is assembling his own Administration (Civil Service) . . . That is the American system . . We need the same here - our "Adminstration" has its own political agenda and as we've seen chooses which Government policies it will implement, indeed during Brexit it negotiated with the EU independant of Government and briefed Brussels against the British peoples - this cannot go on . . . We do indeed need to clear out the Civil Service entirely - Dominic Cummings was keen to do this during the Johnson years- pity it did not commence

For those who aren't old enough to remember the last socialist government which is why you probably voted for this lot, then brace yourselves. It wont be very long before you will be looking back with fondness on the dysfunctional chaotic years of the last Conservative government and thinking how wonderful they were 😂 😂😂😂 and you will be looking forward to the day when you can afford to put a deposit down on your very own cardboard box in a closed down shop doorway. Unless of course you can learn Arabic spend a couple of weeks in your local tanning salon and then loose your passport on a day trip to calais in which case no need to worry

After twenty years in a commercial company I took on a similar role in the public sector. The only thing more jaw-dropping than the waste was the endemic and belligerent indifference to it. The priorities were the avoidance of accountability, at all costs, and the growth of headcount. The entire arrangement runs on perfidious cowardice. I didn't last long!

My Brother works for a government department. He and 12 colleagues were moved to a different office to cover shortages in that office. Now nobody was doing his job so to cover his whole teams absence a team was flown down from Aberdeen to London, put in a Hilton hotel to do the job he should have been doing. For one week, airfares, hotels and expenses amounted to £38,000 He also mentions DEI promotions based on ‘social mobility’ criteria and ‘empowering females in the workplace’ so needless promotions are endemic. The Civil Service is completely and utterly inept

The phenomenon of a private company starting out being run for the benefit of the customers ending up being run for the benefit of employees happens even more readily in the public sector. Gold-plated pensions encourage staff to keep their heads the longer they have worked in the job. Department budgets get spent no matter the need in case they may be reduced if not used.

Since i last went into ilford a week ago, it looks more and more like a third world sht hole in one week. It's worse, boots was boarded up in two places, and a bin was on fire more graffiti, and if you look upon the ground, you can either see blood or where blood has been, this country is the worst its ever been, and I'm truly gutted.

They need to down size not by 10%but much much more. Also all the quangos, committees ect.; trade unions won't let them and the civil service mandarins won't let them. More talk, talk. Last week the word of the week was growth, this week cuts.😢 Oh and by the way, has Kemi Badenoch just woken up to what has been happening in this poor country of ours. Give me strength.

Labour has only just increased the Civil Service by 10% by carrying out all these reviews that will take years to complete, and will end up saying we need more Civil Servants to manage the further reviews that need to be done?

I think that any foreign national who wishes to become a British citizen, they must take a GCSE English exam and pass with at least a C grade (not a high standard I know). If you wish to integrate socially, understand our systems, and read and understand warning/hazard signs, you must be able to read and write the English language at a competent level.
