"Did" is your key word indicating the past - an event that is finished, or in the past. Example: What did you do yesterday? I ate! "Have done" is complicated for learners of English. The important point to remember is that it is for actions that might continue: there is no "yesterday", no indication of the past. Example: What have you done today? I've eaten! (And I will eat again!!)

@DarkheartThe The question is "When did you two meet?" The reply from Maria is "... we were born together. This is my "womb mate". This is a play on words, or a pun: the womb is the nontechnical name for uterus. The uterus is a hollow muscular organ located in the pelvic cavity of female mammals (such as in women) in which the fertilized egg implants. This is where babies develop. Do you get it or do would you like more explanations?
@realenglish115 жыл бұрын
That's a good question, since the past tense is not logical, but both sentences are certainly correct. I will send you a message to your inbox because it is too complicated to explain in 500 letters and spaces.

The difference between "have done" and "did"? Let's simplify: 1 - Q: What have you done this morning? A: I've shopped (She might not be finished shopping). 2 - Q: What did you do this morning? A: I shopped (the shopping is finished).

Hi Sarah - I thought you had spent some time in France before settling in Japan... And on a different note, I sincerely wish I had the time to volunteer to do the French version of your scripts. The Daily Englisg show deserves all the collaboration it can get.

I enjoyed this video. Thank you for posting these, and the other good lessons. Was the last interviewee actually her sister, hence the pun? That was pretty clever. I cannot imagine a Russian speaker accidentally mistaking "w" for "r" which admittedly impressed me! I would have never thought of a "womb mate" to describe a sibling, or even, in symbolic ways, a very close, long-term friend.

Can be confusing. As the reporter asks people in Present Perfect "What have you done this morning?" And many answer in Past Pimple "I came,i ate...."
@realenglish18 жыл бұрын
+TheLizitsa -- That's also real English. People living in the US are more likely than those in the UK to respect the basic differences between the past simple and the present perfect. It's a nuance of difference, in most cases after all, and only important in the US in specific contexts.

Hi , if the action continue in present perfect , why not using simple present then ? That's crazy to use some past tense to explain something that still goes on no ? Thanks for explaining :)

He or she quickly speaks and it's dificult to hear him or her. It's dificult when he/she says "what have you done?". I have to train my ears!! haha Good Bye!!
