Back in 2014, me and my friends used to download your videos from KZbin to study offline because data was too expensive. I kept on learning and from 2017, I was able to understand everything you said. Now, I write complete articles in English and have them published in American journals. Thank you for all your videos.

Hi James, I watched your videos few years ago. Then even I'm subscribed to your channel, I didn't see your videos on my homepage. Few weeks ago I clicked your channel and watched one of your videos. I understand English very well now. I watch videos, movies without subtitles but I'm not very good at writing or speaking grammatically correct. But still I feel people understand me. You are a great teacher. I love your videos. Don't stop making some videos outside too😊

Unfortunately you are right. I would say that in German simple past and present perfect are pretty much used interchangeably. Simple present is often used instead of simple future too. You might hear "I go to the shop" instead of "I will go to the shop". At the same time past perfect or future perfect will be used by pretty much nobody except by somebody who is bad with tenses and uses them by accident. But for what it's worth: My mom always used to say: "Just because somebody jumps off a cliff, it doesn't mean you should do so too" and "just because everybody does it, it doesn't necessarily make it right." So if you are sure that you use the tenses correctly, use it. It might even encourage some native speakers to think about their use of their language. Just an example for how terribly wrong natives can be: A popular "news"paper in Germany once asked about some politician: "Can (person) chancellor?" This question is used to this day especially in the media. It isn't even a proper sentence.

But , i can't understand how do we use since 2015 for example with the present perfect , isn't this a specific time as in past we say in 2015 so what is the difference (both of them indicate a specific time)

I think in the past simple tense when we are dealing with a continuous in time action we have to use a "time container" instead of the exact time point, which contains the whole described action in it - from the action's beginning till its end. For example, when we use 'yesterday', we imply that the whole action described by a verb phrase - from its beginning till its end - lays inside 'yesterday'. More strictly the action started after yesterday had started and ended before yesterday's end. The action mentioned cannot start earlier - a day before yesterday - and cannot end after yesterday's ending (today). That means we are selecting a time period (instead of exact point in time) big enough to contain inside it the whole time period of an action's life. It's like putting smaller "action's time container" into a bigger "time container" - similar to the Russian 'matrioshka' toy principle. P.S. Even when we use time marker like 'five hours ago', we imply a "one hour time container" beginning in time point 'six hours ago' and ending in time point 'five hours ago'. P.P.S. When we are dealing in the past simple with instantaneous events - actions taking less than a few seconds like jumping, sneezing or shooting - we are talking about the exact point in time, as we treat such events not like 'time containers' having some time length of its life but rather as points in time with zero length in time.

As a brazilian, I would like to say that there is no verbal tense equivalent to the Present Perfect in portuguese, so the idea of thinking about if an action is completed or not may sound weird for portuguese speakers. If you have made something in the past, the action is in the past and that is it. xD
