30 Nights Insomniac Poor little babe, she looked so ill. Meningitis was always my big fear raising my 6 children. I don’t know why but after I took a CPR/advanced first aid course when I was pregnant with my first baby, I couldn’t get the pictures out of my mind of children with the disease. Like you, I’m so glad this precious baby’s parents took the early signs seriously.

I've got scoliosis as well (am 34 almost 35) with 4 curves as well. The top curve goes backwards and left with the bottom curve going forward and right (with me facing forward). I've opted to wear a corset as opposed to a back brace as I can adjust it far easier with the laces along with the bonus of a wide selection of fabrics, materials and colors. Of course there is an added bonus of a defined waist as well. I have two favorite corsets with the same pattern for the bottom of the corset with one being an underbust and the other being an overbust.

My baby girl had meningitis. She had high fevers and i went to the ER and they said she was ok. Gave her something for the fever and told me to continue with the tylenol at home. She was a baby that didn't cry much even when she was sick. The biggest thing that was a HUGE red flag was she cried when I touched her skin and i stopped touching her she stopped crying. I took her back to the ER the same day and they admitted her. She came thru. She did have to stay in the hospital 2 weeks and be on antibiotics. That caused her teeth to come in late. She didn't get her first tooth until after she turned one. Scary times.

I hate seeing children in pain! Thank God for those who dedicate their lives to work at a children's hospital! I had to take 3 of my four children to a children's hospital while they were young. One was just ten days old and spent 10 days at children's for a bacteria in her blood, eyes, and urine! One of my sons fell while running with friends, and landed on an iron railroad stake used to anchor a tree. He hit his right side, and just had a little scrape. Two nurse friends advised we just take him home to rest, but I had a "mother's intuition" to get him checked out, because I remembered my husband telling me the story of his father's brother being in a car accident, but was out and walking around and refused to go to the hospital. He didn't know he had broken a couple ribs, and they punctured his lung, and he died! My son reported a little pain when the we doctor pressed on his right side. She said that out if an abundance of caution she wanted to do a CT scan. She was shocked at the results! He had laserated his liver entirely across it in one spot, and halfway across in another! He was in the ICU for appx a week. The Dr said that this type of injury happens to people who were in a 60 mph car crash! He was on complete bed rest for a month after we returned home! My "mother's intuition", and the ER Dr, who ordered the CT scan, when many drs would have brushed it off, because he just had a small scrape, saved his life! The last child who went to children's hospital had chronic urinary tract infections. A test revealed that her kidney was scarred and the tube running from the kidney to the bladder wasn't at the right angle, so urine would backflow into the kidney, scarring them. She required surgery to repair it. We all need to support our children's hospitals, whenever we can.

I have suffered from meningitis which developed from mumps(on the left side and the infection spread out from there to my brain and spine)which I was suffering since two weeks before i git the meningitis attack and i had no idea what was going on as I was swimmer and always in pool so i didn't take seriously the pain and uneasiness and also the fever. But than serious pain started and I was screaming at the top of my lungs for almost two days and was vomiting even water and not amount of painkillers could stop the pain. My head was exploding and i cried and cried, screamed and screamed the whole day and night till the time I was hospitalized for a week and my whole head was covered with ice for four days and the process of treatment was began. I was 16 than and later was diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease and rheumatic fever. And was told not to swim as I was a professional swimmer playing in national level at that point of time but i continued to swim till 21 with difficulties though. But i should have left as i still have headaches very severe ones and due to rheumatic issues my joints freeze and its difficult doing stuff like normal people do. Though i try and don't give up on anything due to so many years of endless hours of sports training. It makes you tough.

Hi sorry me again bacterial meningitis is not stopped by the mmr meningitis is bacterial meningitis is a different strain and needs a separate vaccine yes it is dreadful what it can cause early diagnosis is the best scenario but catching it on time get a glass place it on your baby's skin toddler ect this will act as a magnifier so getting to it on time reduces the damage but again the mmr does prevent bacterial meningitis I hope she gets better she is young to tissue skin will grow back she has deep tissue damage I wish them all the best

Maeve Reid it depends when you get the rods placed! If you get them before you’re done growing, you’ll have to go back and get them lengthened. After you’re 14 or 15 you get permanent rods that don’t have to be lengthened after (I got mine done at 14 and was able to have adult rods placed)

in the US at least the vaccine for meningitis isn't given until about 10 or 11 because it is fairly rare in young children.

In Ireland, you receive the vaccine for Men C in your 6 mth vaccination and Men B in the 2, 4 and 12 mth vaccinations. All vaccines are paid for by the State budget so parents do not have to finance it directly but vaccines are not legally enforced (sadly) but hopefully, showing this will show more parents the need to vaccinate against preventable life-threatening illness.

not all types of Meningitis are preventable by vaccine, and it seems that child was WAY too young for any vaccines yet.

@nhugh23 5 жыл бұрын
LittleWolfGamer _ There are some that are not vaccine preventable, it is true, but in Ireland, the vaccines, including some Men ones, start at 2 months. She looks to be circa 10 months, so she should have, if she was vaccinated, gotten her first few sets of vaccines at birth(her BCG) 2, 4, and 6 months, and those include 2 doses of Men B and a dose of Men C. Ireland starts vaccines way younger than she is.

@TheFuzzyPenguin: Real life is far more complicated. My friend's grandbaby was killed by the USA's "routine schedule" of two-month vaccinations. Most tiny infants can handle the onslaught of having six vaccines at once, a few cannot. Should we thank his parents for keeping the rest of us safe? Supporting herd immunity?

My Old VHS Tapes I’m sorry that the baby passed. I have never heard of anyone’s child losing their life to vaccines. Did the baby have underlying medical issues or an allergy to the vaccines? Maybe that was the cause of his passing. Either way it is tragic and I am sending my love and prayers your way. I personally am a strong supporter of vaccines. I couldn’t imagine how poorly an unvaccinated child would be in a mainstream school. One of my friends parents are anti vax and she is trying to raise money to pay for her own vaccines because she feels poorly quite often. Are you supportive of vaccines or are you more wary? You don’t have to answer if you do not feel comfortable doing so.

My son suffered Bacterial Meningitis at aged 5yrs. In Calgary, AB Canada. After his temperature dropped, he ragained full consciousness and the antibiotics took effect we were released home to deal with the ramifications on our own. He suffered a year of severe migraines and bells palsey. Afterwards, without time for his brain to recover, they diagnosed him as Mentally retarded; but, because Home Schooling was a new concept then, they insisted they only worked with schools and hung us out to dry. With zero support and numerous attacks from the Alberta Gov't, nobody stood a chance. I so wish we were British citizens under British humanitarian laws. We'd both be successors instead of survivors!

Rebecca is correct. Pediatric NICU/ICU have very strict policies in place to avoid making fragile patients even worse. You have to scrub under your nails, wash with a surgical soap for 2 minutes, wear gowns and wipe down cell phones with germicidal wipes before entering the wing. You are supposed to have a barrier between you and the baby at all times. **at least in the Michigan,USA NICU my baby was in**

@bsidethebox
@bsidethebox 4 жыл бұрын
There is a vaccine that prevents infection from some of the causes of meningitis...but not all of them. :( You can be vaccinated and still contract meningitis from a strain that isn't covered by the vaccine. Your overall risk of getting meningitis is still greatly reduced if you're vaccinated.

Kylie Rae in Ireland, the vaccines start at 2 months, she should have, by her age, (she looks about 10 months) the doses of meningitis injections from her 2,4 and 6 month vaccines. It may be bacterial, which is not as easily prevented, but her vaccines would have long started. You get your BCG very young here
