Yeah the stick is something that doesn’t exist irl. Think about it, either the pivot point is really low and there is a lot of feel in the stick like F-14/15/18 or you got force induced like F-16/F35 when it’s short. There is a reason that you don’t find this long throw / short stick setup irl. That’s also the reason the dcs tankers are essentially 20mm targets for 80% of the community. Their human machine interface isn’t up to the job at all.

About the acceleration mode you tried in the end of the session sounds like the way to go. It seems to me that the mode you were using in the beginning does not seem logical to what you would expect. For example the seat moves backwards when launched from the carrier. Pulling the pilot out of the seat. Instead the seat should move forward pushing the pilot into the seat. Or when flying a level turn, the F18 will seek for a 1 G acceleration. Although it seems logical that the seat should tilt, when you are flying a circle, what the pilot will feel is no pull to the ground at all because he is pushed in the seat by the centrifugal force, with lets say 1.2 or 1.3 Gs. So if he closes his eyes he wont be able to tell that he is flying a circle.
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 3 ай бұрын
Great observation, but the acceleration (like off the catapult, I'll cover that in a moment)... has nothing to do with the setting that we changed at the end. The setting that was changed has to do with how the telemetry is sent to the motion platform, and how the platform reads that telemetry when a pilot does a 360 roll or 360 loop. Jeff Weaver talks about it extensively here if you want a detailed explanation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqvMaXptiZ6jbaM So you are correct, the reason the "rate" is better for a turn is because it doesn't do the jarring swing back from 180 to -180 (as Jeff talks about) instead it just gives you the quick angle simulating the g-force and then returns to center so like you say, you don't feel you are turning when you stay in a bank. As for the acceleration, that is a hot topic of debate in the motion community and there are basically 2 camps. One camp thinks the chair should move exactly like it would in real life (hence move forward when going off the catapult) and the other camp focuses more on making the chair simulate how your body "feels" when something happens. I've tried both ways and for me, the chair moving forward feels completely wrong. I think the reason is in real life I'm use to being pushed into the seat when accelerating, and the motion rig can't push hard enough into me for that to feel correct. Instead my brain is used to sitting still one moment and then the vehicle moves forward, causing me to feel like I'm moving backwards in the vehicle because it is accelerating away from me. A better example is probably when you catch a wire and stop on the carrier... The actual plane itself is stopping so that would be the chair moving backward, but you "feel" like you are being thrown into the dashboard so that is why I prefer to have the chair move forward, to simulate that "feeling". Probably what is going on is I'm more sensitive to how my body is moving vs. others who might be more sensitive to the pressure from the chair. There really isn't a right vs. wrong in this situation, it is preference to whatever the person wants, and the great thing is you can set it up to do it either way so in the end your motion rig will handle the acceleration however you want it to. I hope that makes sense and thanks for the detailed comment.

So good to see Dave back on the channel again and what better feedback could you ask for. I bet the H3 and about to be H3 owners all had their wallets wince when he said the H6 was much better. 👍
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 3 ай бұрын
Gives people something to strive for right? So obviously context is important here. Pooch was impressed with how much you got from the H3 for its size and for its price. It just didn't feel like an F-18 (part of that was my fault for tuning and part of it is MSFS fault for poor telemetry compared to DCS). Since he had limited time to test my H6, I wanted to make it as real as possible to get his feeling on how close it could come. We honestly should have put him into the H6 in MSFS so it was an apples to apples comparison... or better yet put him in the H3 in DCS... alas just not enough hours in the day. One thing to always remember on this topic... Some Motion (no matter how little) is always better than No Motion!!! Thanks for the comment my friend.

Very cool I'm so glad he had an excellent experience. I couldn't help but to notice your motion compensation was either not active or not functioning I was watching lots of massive movement inside the cockpit, forward and back, and up and down. I see that exact scenario when my motion compensation isn't turned on or properly calibrated. Watching the cockpit control Zoom way up on him and then way back as the motion simulator pitches forward and back was a real big dead giveaway.
@GYGOtv

LOL, ya I wish he would have mentioned it to me when it was happening... Actually what happened was BOTH OpenXRMC AND OpenVRMC were working at the same time (which I had no idea it would stack like that! I thought it would only work on whatever the Headset was using). SO one was working correctly and then the other one was compensating again on top of it. If you notice the MC is actually backward where the cat shot slides his view forward instead of back. If you listen closely after he gets shot down, you can hear "Tracker Motion Lost" 7:21 which is the OpenXRMC turning off. From that point forward everything was fine as you can see from the carrier landing etc. He did mention it to me after that first sortie but then when I checked with him again he noticed it wasn't doing it anymore so for sure that was it. The thing I learned is not to have OpenXRMC automatically start... but who knew they would double up? Great observation and thanks for watching.

O'well at least it fixed itself and he didn't experience that all day.

When Pooch mentions his issue with the throttle, I believe that could be solved simply by adding detents to your throttle. I have them on my virpil throttle and have a very noticable pushthrough bump for going to afterburner. I also have to lift the finger detents to move the throttle back all the way to engine off.
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. Ya I know better throttles have the detents... my problem is I REALLY LIKE slider throttles vs. arching style throttles. I haven't seen a slider version yet with detents. Honestly not an issue for me, I use the motion of the platform to feel when I'm in burner, and then you can always look at the FF to verify as well. I totally get how this would mess a real pilot up though. Appreciate you watching.

@@GYGOtv dirt rally 2 is at the top of the hill for violent motion. The first time I tried it, i couldnt last a full minute. What're u doing for motion compensation. I've covered cameras on the left side of my hp reverb g2. It has helped with the view from jumping around, but now it has introduced a slow drift of the view, which isnt as annoying, i just reset the vr view after some time. I tried the witmotion, but that device cant handle translational motion, which the h6 has. So surge, heave and sway confuses it. Also, its extremely tedious to setup in steam. And you have to repeat the process every time you bootup the pc and turn on steam.

@@carniv0rous Ahh yes Motion Compensation... I have a video in the works on that, I promise (actually that is the next one I plan to finish). So MC is really difficult with Inside Out tracking, I don't know if you plan to get a new headset since the HP G2 is no longer going to work with the latest Windows Update, but if you do, try to get either a Lighthouse based tracking system or a Quest 3 and I have a solution for them. I use controller based tracking with the controller mounted behind my head and it works 99% of the time. It really is the best option right now for 6DOF rigs. If you are running OpenXR you can have the software start automatically so you don't have to mess with setup every time... unfortunately you still do have to manually start it each time in OpenVR (SteamVR) but it is just a simple checkbox in the app once you have it set up so no really big deal. The big thing is if you run a Transducer (Buttkicker) then you also have to worry about vibrations as that makes the view shake like crazy. Let me know if you run one and I can give you more options as well. Hope that helps.

@GYGOtv

Yes for sure, but let me try to help here so you don't have to wait. I've taken a ride in the front seat of the Apache a few times now (I've tried to fly it but it always ends up in the dirt so skill is lacking for sure on my part). I can tell you that Heave is a huge thing in a helicopter so personally I wouldn't even consider the Yaw until they have a heave module (that they have talked about in the past). The heave makes the ground solid when you land and it is impressive, plus it also gives you that swoopy feeling as you move up and down which is also great in a chopper. The other axis that is fun is the sway side to side which you won't have in the Yaw. Honestly, I think if you were debating an H3 vs. the Yaw3 then it might be worth waiting to see BUT an H6 vs. the Yaw, I think the H6 offers a lot more... just keep in mind you are losing that 360 spin... but honestly there is enough yaw in the H6 that you get a similar effect. Hope that helps and please let me know if you have any other questions about this that I might be able to help with... I know it is a big purchase! Remember we also have the discount code which should help too.

I own the H3 and primarily fly helicopters and absolutely love it. While it doesn't have actual heave up and down and left and right, it decently mimics it with roll and pitch (i.e. when I lift straight off the ground the rig momentarily tips back quickly, making you feel the lift off). I will most likely end up upgrading to the H6 in the future, but am already extremely happy.

@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 3 ай бұрын
Great question! For racing the H6 Hands down is the way to go if you can afford it. In fact I'd pick an H6 over the Yaw 3 every time... The extra 3 axis on the H6 make a huge difference for almost everything, and honestly that 360 yaw feels more gimmicky to me and the H6 has enough yaw to get the feeling right as you saw in the video when Pooch was taxiing. The only BIG deal is that pitch back on the Yaw 3, you can't match that and it was a great feeling... but not great enough to overcome the other limitations compared to the H6 in my opinion. NOW the tricky question is when you start comparing the Yaw 3 to the H3. I feel like the H3 is FAR more stable, takes up less room, but since they are both 3DOF rigs, the Yaw obviously beats it on Pitch and 360 Spin (which again isn't that big a deal except maybe for helicopters or roller coasters). The other thing I worry about is the mounting options on the Yaw. They have that plate that comes up between your legs and that limits center stick stuff... you could remove it but then you got to come up with a solution if you want a steering wheel or other things in your cockpit, just doesn't seem like great mounting options yet for the Yaw, but that can come in time. I also worry a little about the durability because I know they Yaw 2 had some issues in that department. I have to also mention the Yaw3 had some delivery issues in the past as well, I guess the bottom line is the Yaw3 is more expensive but if you are willing to pay the extra, the Yaw3 will give you a bit more motion over the H3. I just don't know if that extra cost is worth what you get and I do think the H3 is the best value out of the 2. I hope that answers your question?

I was thinking about your question last night and realized I didn't really give you a good answer to the heart of what you were asking for an unmodified rig so let me give it another shot. Yes you will notice the lower range of motion from the H3 BUT what you gain in Surge and Sway and especially Heave more than makes up for it (ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SIM RACING!). Those extra axis add so much to the driving experience that I wouldn't trade them for the world. Now in flight, I really like the surge for the carrier launch and trap, and with wake turbulence coming to MSFS2024, it will certainly add a lot there as well. The heave is critical for landings as you feel the aircraft touch the ground. So again you will notice the lower movement BUT the tradeoff is 100% worth it in my opinion. Hope that helps.

Why is the P6 for flight almost $3K more than for racing? Looks like just a few brackets difference? The H6 difference flight/racing is considerably less
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv Ай бұрын
Great question, so I think the difference is only $2k and that is because the racing model DOES NOT have the "No-Cog" reducers to smooth out subtle movements that are needed for flight. The difference between the H and P models is the P models have slightly more durable motors that can handle about 100 lbs more weight and have just a little better performance. In practice, unless you plan on using this 8 hours a day everyday, the H model should be the right choice for most home users. I personally do recommend EVERYONE buy the version with the "No-Cog" reducers unless you know that you won't be doing any flying ever. The cost to refit an existing model to the new no cog version is much more expensive than if you just get it from the start. I hope that helps answer your question.

Shouldn't the rig move forward upon launch? There's something wrong with the software. Takeoff from airfield the seat also moves back, that's not right. As the aircraft is accelerating the seat should move forward and roll to the back pressing you into the seat.
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 2 ай бұрын
Hi void1969able, thanks for the question. This is a hot topic of debate in the motion community and there are basically 2 camps. I hope that answers your question.
@void1968able
@void1968able 2 ай бұрын
@@GYGOtv Hey, thanks for the in depth answer. I know exactly what you mean, as I have belt tensioners in my rig and don't know how they should work. They a) push you back into the seat (like acceleration does) and b) put pressure onto your chest (like deceleration does). So they act contradictionary. However I noticed that surging forwards and nicking backwards gives me the best feeling of acceleration (surging just a short sensation, yes, like catapult). But as the rig should act like the plane IMHO and the plane moves forward in relation to the pilot so should the rig. But it depends on liking, yes, and how your body "interpretes" the movement. The problem with surge is that it's over after a couple of 10cm and then gives you a very noticeable deceleration - other than nick, that can stay forever.
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 2 ай бұрын
@@void1968able And that is what makes it so good, you can set it however you want. I'm hoping belt tensioner software starts doing more with flight, I think it would be incredible to feel the belts tighten and you roll inverted. Fingers crossed this happens some day.

Unfortunately, Igor Demenchuk's rhetoric does not match the behaviour of his company. A few days ago I made a $9000 order for a P6 and some extra parts, only for their payment system to crash and my order and money to be lost. On its own that wouldn't have been the disaster into which it was turned by the sheer incompetence of what turned out to be an Indian call-center support dept. At the end of 36 hours I was absolutely convinced I'd been scammed by either a spoofed or hacked DOF-Reality website. When the actual guys from the company in the EU re-established communication with me I was confronted with arrogance, contempt and a highly rude and offensive email (I had never been rude in any of my prior emails). Then, after it seemed we'd got past all that and the dispatch of my order was being settled I got another email in which I was rudely informed management had cancelled my order. The behaviour of this company, when pushed outside of its comfort-zone by a crash of its software and the behaviour of its support-staff in India, has been absolutely disgusting. The two videos on my channel (Panzerlang) give the full details. So beware...while the product they sell may be good, the company itself has no care or concern for the customer welfare. All they want is your money and if things go sideways you risk being in a very bad place. Going from the joy of thinking I was finally going to have one of their awesome platforms, to the horror of thinking I'd been done for $9000, to the relief of discovering it was just a monumental clusterfk at their end but with an arrogant and dismissive refund of my money. Well, let’s be honest here - carrier launch and then landing clearly shows that at least surge axis is inverted… when you accelerate rig should move forward so you have sensation of being pushed towards the seat. You are not the first to comment on that and I actually did try it your way and it felt completely wrong. Lets add that Pooch has actually launched off a carrier deck and he thought it felt correct so sorry if I disagree with your comment. I understand why you would think that but the problem is you don't get enough pressure from the seat "pushing" into your back to simulate what it is really like. What your body notices is that you are moving forward instead of expecting to move backwards. @@ZenMotionSimThis is not a new debate by any means. Also according to your theory, Disney has it all wrong too because they tilt and move you back when they want to simulate speed (hyperspace jump) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qojJgZ-Xd9mmipI so I think if it was that wrong, somebody would have noticed in the past 37 years, don't you?
