Speaking as a Swede-turned-American, who did my military service a million years ago with the model 45 Swedish k, you can shoot single shots with a weapon like that. It just takes a lot of practice and a lot of yelling from drill instructors. 😂😂😂

@@charlesrichardson2372 they're freaking wonderful. Only 11 parts, if I recall correctly. 36 round mag and with the collapsible stock you can hide it in your pants, if you so desire. LOL The only negative is, to quote one of my instructors, if the enemy is wearing thick winter clothing you can't kill them beyond 200 m. That's an exaggeration, but it certainly not a good general infantry weapon.

I Mean a “dream gun” in reality. However among submachine guns including WW2 machine guns it’s really at the bottom quality wise. I’d rather have an M3 and would give up 3 MP-40s for a Thompson or a PPSH-41 or PPS-43. I Mean the three worst were the Sten the MP-40 and the grease gun. At least with the grease gun you get .45 ACP???

@@danielcurtis1434 The thompson better than the mp40 ?? how ? The thompson altough cool was obsolete even before the war started, it's very heavy, costs 4 times more than a MP40 to produce and is needlesly complex. The best submachine gun of the war was the PPS-43, followed probably by the PPSH-41 ( even if this gun has really bad handling )

When I was a little kid, there was a hobby shop that sold the Century and Estes rocket kits. He kept an MP-40 behind the counter for special unwanted patrons. I remember peeking behind the counter and seeing it there low on a shelf. Yes, I'm that old. The MP-40 has always been my favorite sub gun of WWII.

When I think of this weapon it’s immediately Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton in WHERE EAGLES DARE or Sinatra and Trevor Howard in Von Ryans Express. When I was a young kid ( and totally into those movies) I got to choose my Birthday present one year. I chose a Replica Models MP 40. Still have it today, as an adult though I’d much rather have the real thing .... SOMEDAY MAYBE ???

The OG subgun had a "forward stock' on it. The Thompson. They decided that a "barricade hook/forward stop' " was more useful so they put the forward grip spot behind the mag. It was a design decision.

As always, another fine informative video. Your concern for the bolt activating and chambering a round and firing accidentally by dropping or maybe a shock is a valid one. I have seen this happen on STEN guns, I do believe that that was one of the complaints about the STEN from those who used them. I have used all manner of weapons and open bolt designs always make me nervous. I must admit that my only exposure to the MP 38/40 though has been via movies about WW 2. Thanks for this.

Should have loaded a magazine with snap caps (dummy rounds) and experimented with bumping. If spring is stiff enough relative to bolt weight it might not load and fire. Locking bolt is much preferable though :)

The mp40 was, like more than one subgun really designed to be shot with the stock extended. The folded setting was for transport and ease of carry, though of course it was occasionally used folded. The Where Eagles Dare use was a producers idea. Looked so damn heroic and aggressive. But not at all accurate. Sooner or later most folks think of sbring even if they dont actually do it.

Snippet on the Maschinenpistole problems on Crete: ...You can't afford jamming here, and unfortunately that's the order of the day for paratroopers who carry the Maschinenpistole. The springs in the magazines that were fully loaded far too early in Germany have become lame and no longer transport reliably. There have been some nasty surprises, and you see some ranks swapping their submachine guns for the good old Karabiner 98... Dietrich Brehde, Feldwebel Offizeranwärter 13.Kompanie/LLSR

I've ust never understood what the fascination is with WWII Germnan military surplus stuff. They were our enemy during WWII. They killed millions of Jewish people. In my mind that's nothing to idolize. Especially not the weapons used by the German Army for that purpose. You hear a ton of people talking like they're experts on "what the Germans used." The real question is why?

I am left eye dominant right hander, and I shoot just fine right handed. I don’t see the need to shoot weak side like that. You can also train eye dominance. One way is to wear an eye patch as much as possible for a few weeks. I didn’t do that, but regular trips to the range made my left eye less dominant. With red dot sights being common, both eye open shooting, eye dominance doesn’t matter as much with those.
