I've gotten into stray kids in the last year and what i find pulls me in the most is the relationships. Watching them interact is very wholesome and i learn so much about myself and realtionships through the content they upload like 2 kids room. I think another part of it is them being korean, it's easy to escape into another culture and leave all the issues that come with my culture behind.

Great summary! For me, a big part of BTS's ability to communicate is their humility, along with the kindness they show in words and actions. They never berate, never show negativity, no eye rolls -- they are present and listen well. Love them! PS this is also why I enjoy K-Dramas. Sure, there's the crazy stuff like Squid Game, but there are others that are just good stories with humor, no explicit sex, and no violence. E.g., Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Hospital Playlist.

With BTS, their realness is what pulls me in at first. Not their performance/songs. They show the good and the bad, they show there is a process, hard work, highs and lows to their success. They are not afraid to show love. They don't shy away from conflicts and solve them with a healthy way. And more importantly, in my 40something years of living, this is the first time of me feeling the artists love me back.

This is why I love k-pop so much. You can relate to the artists as people, you do forget sometimes that they are superstars. They somehow manage to give courage and support through their music and actions. I never got anything like that from the groups I listened to growing up. ❤️❤️

You are absolutely right. That's why we miss them a lot when they're in military for example (yep, I'm an Army, poor me😅), because they feel like family members to us. And that's a topic that non-Kpop fans can't understand. They think it's just about their music and make fun of us when we claim we miss them. As you said in another video, we have a parasocial link with them. Which is truly a good thing, not a bad one.

Thank you for this video,Max. You’re showing how these two hugely popular groups that many think of as rivals are similar and how the fandoms are similar. I’ve been trying to get fandoms to realize that they should just support their favorites loudly and proudly without fighting each other. All healthy devoted fandoms should be banding together to fight the toxic haters who engage in the bullying. Most members of these bands are usually friends with each other. JK and Bang are friends. They’re 97-liners (both born in 1997) with several other Kpop artists born in 1997 and neither would want their fandoms sniping at the other. The Kpop space could be such a beautiful and fun space if not for the bullying and toxicity - as you witnessed in real time when that Suga stuff was happening.

I am a danish grandma on the other side of 70, that is a Melody, wich is the fandom name for BtoB. Their music is self composed/produced and they has taken it a step further. They make their fans sing with them, even in harmony, as a tool to communicate during a concert. They are dead serious when it comes to their music but very not, when it comes to them selfs. Their music just makes me feel in a good mood, no matter the genre or the topic. I find that the korean language is almost made for singing, just like italian, german and french.Just the other day I was contemplating on the weird thing that how is it possible to love and cherish these people you have never even meet or heard live. But I do. If you haven't come across BtoB, and you like to know them (they debuted a cobble of weeks before BTS) you can watch a guide from this year. Its well rounded and give a good picture of them from all sides. Been a fan since 1915. This is not the only music I listen to but its the only music that makes me feel engaged in the persons that are doing it.

It's not the same with all the KPop stars... but BTS and some others like Stay Kids, TXT, etc. come across as very genuine. I've been an American BTS ARMY since 2014, and if it was just some marketing ploy, it would have failed at some point in over 10 years... but it never has. Their music and the energy between us really got me through some very awful times. As Jimin says... they can't always share everything even though they want to... but what we appreciate is that what they do tell us is honest and heartfelt. I only know of one American artist that I've liked that has come close to that, and even he falls short.

Marketing ploys very rarely fail when they use the right tools and use anything to pull on heartstrings. Overpaid, over hyped and over rated because they're there to get rich and see you pay over the odds for that and clothing. Not one of them have asked for concert tickets to be priced in accordance with the economic situation of the places they visit. Why because they have shares in their own company.

For girls and women, BTS are safe to love. BTS are so obviously being their true selves that they feel trustworthy. And even if they 'betray' our trust [by smoking or falling off a scooter?? 🤣🤣] we have the distance to not be actually hurt, at least physically. Their softer masculinity helps them look safe, too. So many girls and women have or have had unsafe men in their lives, loving Idols is a breath of fresh air. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Wow. Never thought of it that way - but it makes complete sense. Because they are being true to themselves (as much as possible) we also see them as humans and not perfect fantasies, thus the "mistakes" are acceptable. I can trust them because they have always followed through with what they promised us and they have proven (as long as ARMYs aren't too delulu) that they feel the same way about us. I have felt safe with many bands/ singers growing up, but thus far BTS has had the strongest pull.

Straykids are the first group I got into and it’s hard to describe it. But it truly does feel like a community. You can see how much they appreciate and love their fans and vice versa. The reality shows and content they post make it so much easier to feel that way because we get to watch them being themselves and see them being normal people. As much as they are very popular they are human just like us. I think especially in the USA celebrities feel out of touch in a sense. With straykids I feel apart of something. So, I was pondering why the draw. I can also say I was drawn to them as people before I even started listening to their music. I definitely agree with what you're saying. The fact that they've been so consistent for so many years tells me it's not "just an act." Sure. I know there are things we don't see or know. But they show us a lot, and it creates a bond.

Jaemin's love to spoil us with gifts, sweet words, he always thanks us, calls us princess, makes eye contact and is very sweet during fan signs which is why he got nickname fansign boyfriend. He's also just very kind and does charity work and he loves to share with ppl, he was raised with lots of love so that's why he's so amazing. Kevin is a bit different he shows his love tru appreciation and emphasis with fans, always putting himself in fans position, for example when he talked about the whole experience about seeing Beyonce live he said smth like I see that's not easy for our fans to do this when they want to see us tour but I appreciate it. He's also very grateful. I've noticed he's also just very emphatic in general which I respect. Idk I just guess I have deep respect for them and that's why I went into this deep dive about them even tho u didn't really react to them. Jaemin, kevin and bang chan seem like one of the only idols that truly cherish their fans. It would be cool to see u react to some the boyz and NCT dream content cuz they're funny and got all this different yet interesting personalities

Yeah this is why I love the groups that I do but I hope that people can still realise that we don't know them personally and even tho you feel a connection, even tho admiring aspects you appreciate about them can help you to better yourself you are still strangers. Fans and kpop idols can effect eo in positive ways but we are still strangers at the end of the day and it's really important to remember. If you don't remember that then you will be completely betrayed if you find out that they weren't the person you thought they were or worse you'll blindly defend their wrongdoings or literal crimes or some people go too far and think that they owe you smth and that you have some kind of ownership of that idol and they're not allowed to do things like date or go to the club or that you can follow them everywhere and ask them for pics and signatures bc you've supported them monetarily and they owe you that... just today a sasaeng fan ambushed Sunwoo (from THEBOYZ) in his dorm building and attacked him and another staff member, both Sunwoo and the staff had to go to the hospital. What if that sasaeng fan had a concealed weapon? It's terrifying but bc of the nature of kpop idols and their relationship with fans it's more common for them to overstep their boundaries, obv it still happens with western artists but to a slightly lesser extent.

Hi, great job on the video!! I was wondering if you could analyze the “kalogera sisters” in the “going rollerblading” video, I would love to see ur commentary and what you think about it, if not it is completely fine!

Hey max! I would love it if you checked out the recent formula 1 drama!! George Russell and Max Verstappen have given some pretty interesting interviews about each other. Pretty intense. Would love to see you analyze it.

I really have a question from a grown up to another: I agree with everything but in the first point about fandom: although i see their appreciation in the fandom, sometimes that much attention and appreciation makes me feel like is fake and they train them to talk like this. What do you think?

please please please - this one direction video that was released from their x-factor days - I am SOOOO fascinated about their body language during this time stamp - when they had done their final audition, listening to Simon Cowell's critique and whether or not they would go through - the arm placement/hand squeezing reactions and facial expressions - would be very very curious to hear your take 16:30-19:00 kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6aopIJvq9-KY7c
