I was just sitting in my car in a little town in New Zealand called Te Aroha, eating a late night burger and listening to some ‘80’s tunes on the radio when on came Real Life singing “Send Me An Angel”. This was a favourite of mine when it was first released and it has aged like a fine wine! An hour’s drive later when I arrived home in Tauranga I hunted out the original video posted on KZbin and all of the jigsaw memories fell into place. Love the ‘80’s and love this track! Classic, so well crafted and timeless. If it was a new release today it would surely do well, again - 😎👍🇳🇿🎸🍺🍺✨

I just love seeing all these guys again that I used to be really into when I was young! I was 18 in 1984 and David I would guess was around 25. I'm now 44 so he must be around 51!! He looks great and God bless him for making songs like Send Me an Angel and Catrch Me I'm falling! Two songs that are etched in my memory forever! Peace Bro!!

+John DiMaria Love his voice, it is just David performing, no other members of Real Life. Not many sound the same when live to start with but 23 yrs on is pretty damn good, he still sounds exactly the same today :) There is live 2008 performance with the whole band - they DO sound the same, it's pretty amazing. I put his voice up with other Aussie greats easily - Icehouse are still as amazing as they were 30 yrs ago and he's up there with them. Wonder how many now will be around in 20-30 yrs? Not many...especially when most bands now sound shit live!

John, thought you'd like to know I saw him live on Friday night :- ) It's amazing, he's actually extremely sick here, he had full on influenza (I think it was) and it was Renee Geyer that convinced him to perform, this is him after not performing for a while AND sick - he's bloody good isn't he? So yep, I was right in front of the stage and it's now 10 yrs since he did this and omg, his voice when you are actually THERE is incredible! You can tell the difference, he's like the energiser bunny, never stops lol. And because he WAS sick here then live on Friday he sounded simply like a deeper version of his original clip in 1983, pulled it off perfectly along with "Catch me I'm falling". He was there with Martika, Berlin, Limahl, Wa Wa Nee & more, Terri Nunn & Martika sound the same, he was easily in their league, all sounded amazing - shows how 80's performers relied on pure raw talent, they brought the place down.

This performance is a perfect example of how analog blows away digital. Unless you get digital samples you end up with a thin synth sound like in this performance. Give me the old Roland Jupiter 8 and it will blow up the sound like it was 1984 again.

Pretty sure they used a prophet 5, it's in the 1989 video. Also, why would you compare a live version to a studio version? live mix will be very simple, things like chorus fx only work in stereo which is not something you'll pick up in a live recording. You'd have to be pretty stupid to take a 40 year old synth out on the road now. Howard Jones tried it for one of his "classic album" tours and his synths kept dying. An audience member had to bring theirs in to save the tour.
