Figo was the captain of Barcelona and he wanted to pressure the club to improve his contract, so he negotiated with a Real Madrid presidential candidate thinking that he didn't really have any chances to win. Well...he was Florentino Pérez and he did, indeed, win. So he had to leave Barça and sign for Real. At that time, Figo was a Barça fan and he actually spoke with Pérez and told him he wanted to be released. Real played Barça at Camp Nou and it was total war. I've never seen such a hostile environment against a player in my life. Figo played horrible that day, by the way. But that day Figo became a true Real player. And the rest is history. From a Real fan. We idolize Figo; beloved and respected for ever.
