People forget but even just 4-5 years ago you could stumble across some really nice finds at car boot sales. Guidebooks, old gaming magazines, boxed n64 games for £4 each. I remember finding Silent Hill and Armored Core on PS1 for £1 around 2015. Yes it’s almost 10 years ago but it’s a completely different vibe at carboots now. It’s just a full of slovenly dressed scalpers holding a can of monster yelling if anyone has any retro Nintendo and the sellers haven’t even got out their cars yet. Soon as I heard that start happening, I knew my secret little place of comfort and fun had been compromised and it would never be the same. I really miss the days when retro gaming was more niche. I never resold anything I bought. I only ever collected stuff that meant something to me so I could play and display it. I’m just glad I managed to get a great collection when I did and I appreciate it more than ever now. ✨

I did a few car boot sales 20 years ago, getting rid of all my childhood toys and games... nothing much has changed by the sounds of it. Before we had even set up the table people were barging through us to dig through the boxes we hadnt begun to unpack that were still in the boot of the car. It was horrendous.

There's a lot of decent gaming stuff being sold there. I go to Twin Oaks, Chesterfield, Rowsley (and some other smaller ones) but never see that size selection of games/consoles - which car boot is it? (Please say Ripley).

I gave up going to car boots, all I seem to find is endless copies of Fifa,Nfs,Pes and Assassins creed games. Plus the pricing was pretty much matched to CEX and most sellers wouldn't budge at all or were that rude I wouldn't even buy from them. 🙄

Nowadays people check online for prices and its worth something sell online and take litterally junk to the carboot. Never used to be like that But thats the internet for you....great for certain things....ruined the rest 🤣🤣 You do seem to have a few interesting things at that one but the prices for a carboot are same as online but if on ebay have ebay price back guarantee plus i get nectar points 🤣 it all adds up and basically gives me a free game

I had a real laugh went I went to a shop in Filey the guy was flat out rude and AHOLE there was no price on a sealed copy of Zelda link awakening DX I asked how much and he mumbles under his breath and I thought he said £400 I asked him did he say that and then he shouted at me £4000 I looked at him and said said "bloody hell £4000!" And then he goes "don't bloody hell me, someone sold it on eBay for £12000 last week!"I then said "yeah sure thing" Pretty much turned around and walked out at that point along with the two other guys in the shop as I saw their eyes widen at the price while looking at a battered original millennium falcon with no pricetag... Also checked eBay's previous sold copies of the game (no version of it ever sold at that price) and saw a graded 9.5 copy on there sold for £2000 where's this guy getting his prices!!! More like bull crapping his way into higher prices...what I feel bad is someone would have sold him this for pennies...

Two words to describe Probotector guy 🔔🔚
@Fletchr866 ай бұрын
Hi Gemma, I've been to the car boot you have featured here, I live quite locally to it (wont name it obviously) - I agree, the guy at the store with Probotector is an arsehole. The Probotector is a repro, and it has no manual. I've opened it before, doesn't surprise me that he has a problem with you opening it. Honestly, he seems the sort of person to talk down to women, he is very rude and was funny with my other half, when our 3 year old wanted to buy a toy train from him. I'm a 6ft 4 bloke so he had no issue with me opening it surprise surprise. Just thought I'd let you know! That being said, a few weeks ago a guy was clearing up his stall and I managed to get a couple of OG xbox games, a 360 (that i have yet to test, no power cord) and a boxed OG Xbox steering wheel for free. So it is possible to get a winner at the carboots every now and then.

Oh wow, so that stall with the ghostbusters the OG power rangers figures are American imports, back in the 90s the toys and most merch in the UK took out the mighty morphin part of the logo to avoid any association with morphine, similar to the whole teenage mutant hero/ninja turtles thing. Lol I've not even finished watching the video yet just saw that and had to drop that knowledge.
@TheGebs246 ай бұрын
I never knew that? Wow
@madhattermikey6 ай бұрын
@TheGebs24 it was more inconsistent than the turtles one, I never noticed it as a kid as I was like 4 or 5 but when I was in my teens I noticed it. An example of the inconsistent is the movie the VHS tape and soundtrack brand it as just Power Rangers The Movie, but the Pal megadrive game keeps the full mighty morphin but the old vhs tapes of episodes had mighty morphin. I think ITV also used an edited intro logo which said just power rangers but still kept mighty morphin in the song then they later swapped it to showing 2 episodes and edited the logo to say hour of power instead - distinct memory of mr motivator saying its time for an hour of power- although my memory on that might not be as clead. I also remember arguing with a friend as a kid as he kept saying my turtles party wagon was fake because mine said ninja and not heroes and I was like yes the cartoon is hero but the movie is ninja XD love that censorship could never be consistent.
