I think that pillars are brighter in Hubble's images cause those telescope usually image things in IR, visible is rarely used

You'd be surprised what ameture astrophotography equiptment can capture. Most of the vissable salmon pink colors you see is sulfur and hydrogen, where as the bright white regions are oxygen and reflections

As a matter of fact, Hubble images are within the visable spectrum. Just narrow parts of it. Most those hubble images are false color images. And the hubble's optics are coated with aluminum, so it doesnt get much ir signal nor really much uv. In short its performence as far as what wavelengths it can capture ranges from 400nm-800nm
@hunter133official9 ай бұрын
Actually, as an astro-nerd, that image was actually imaged in visible light, it was just color mapped in SHO (fully named SII, H-A, OIII Narrowband) S stands for Sulfur and it is mapped in the color red H stands for Hydrogen and it is mapped in the color green O stands for Oxygen and it is mapped in the color blue

One trick you can do in spaceengine is to bring the LOD settings to max on the config, and to press hyphen “-“ in order to change between loading modes. So you can have an immediate loading mode in a specific nice looking spot and it will load a lot of detail instantly. Although I suggest to switch it out once youre done or else exploring with that mode enabled can bring the fps down by a lot.

Science nerd here the reason they look different in Hubble images is because they are all false color - meaning they start out as black and white, and are then colored. Most often this is to highlight interesting features of the object in the image so what your seeing in space engine is how they actually look

I believe the eagle nebula looks so red because of elements like Sulfur and Hydrogen present within the nebula. Most images of the eagle nebula are either color-shifted to differentiate elements, or taken from telescopes than can absorb and process lightwaves outside our visible spectrum, which then shifts colors to make those certain lightwaves visible to us.

(WARNING: LONG COMMENT BELOW) So Hubble's pictures are normally taken in false color or sometimes, enhanced color with long exposure images. This is usually done for scientific reasons, so no it's not because NASA is "lying" to us before conspiracy theorists say that. The objects would look very different to your human eyes, and Space Engine more closely represents just that, what you'd see with your own HUMAN eyes. However it gets even more complicated then THAT too. Our human eyes aren't very good at perceiving color in low light levels. The sky is still blue at night time, but because it's so dark our eyes go from photopic vision to scotopic vision, which is great at detecting brightness, but not so much color. That's why the sky looks black at night to us on Earth. This also applies to space objects. If we were to go up into space and somehow be able to breathe we could see these objects however they would look different then in photographs. In my opinion, just as beautiful, just in a different, more subtle way. We'd still see the planets in color because they are bright enough. If we were to go up to Saturn, we would see it just as it appears in photographs. A pretty, pale orb with very bright and visible rings. However if we were to say, go to a galaxy or a nebula, we WOULD see the nebula but it would appear monochromatic, with multicolored stars (because some stars are bright enough to trigger color in our eyes) in front of it. Flying through the nebula would look like flying through a cloud. Very foggy. So if you truly want Space Engine to look realistic, you should turn the saturation down to reflect how humans would see these objects. There is actually a really great website called Deep Sky Watch www.deepskywatch.com/astronomy-sketches.html and it was made by an expert astronomer who frequently visits extremely dark skies. He sketches exactly what he sees in the telescope, and yes THESE pictures are ACTUALLY how these objects would appear to you. Some are bright enough to see color in, and some aren't. If you wanted to you could recreate THESE images in Space Engine for a truly realistic experience. And in my opinion, if you fiddle with the settings just a bit, you can make Space Engine the most true to life space simulator ever created. (Oh and for those that are sad that nebulas aren't as colorful in real life let me tell you two things.) (1. Long exposure photographs in particular are still realistic, just not to our human eyes. When we see long exposure photos of say, the Milky Way and the Orion Nebula that look multicolored and beautiful, the objects REALLY do look like that. As in, if our eyes were good enough we would see them like that, it's just that our eyes AREN'T good enough and so we don't see them like that. In a way the photographs are actually MORE realistic, in that sense because they show the objects as they ARE, not how we perceive them.) (2. Not all nebulas are created equal. There are some nebulas, like the Tarantula Nebula that WOULD actually be bright enough to trigger color in our eyes. So they would look close to how they do in photographs, and if you were inside it, it would look like a scene straight out of a science fiction movie. It would be glorious.)

As others have said, the reason why some of the reference images dont match up to what you see in Space Engine isn't due to a fault by the Space Engine creators. They're different because the reference images are usually highly edited or are composed of IR or x-ray images instead of true color. If you go online and look for true-color images of different well known objects, you'll see that they usually look completely different. They can also sometimes be edited with different colors that aren't there naturally to highlight different aspects. While i enjoyed the video, it did irk me that you seemed to put blame on the Space Engine creators for the differences that you were ignorant to.
