Bad ass. Great looking car. I love the interior colors too, its very similar to the interior colors in a 68 Fairlane fastback I used to own.

Very cool, I learned to drive on a 64' "Bronze Lemans" and this brings back memories though that straight-six didn't have this HP!

Wasn’t this car run with a stick in prior Drag Week events? When did the owner convert it over to auto? Looks like the clutch pedal is still place? Presume the owner is looking for less maintenance which is understandable.

He mind as well switch to an S or A Trim Head Unit. He'd be alot better off with that combination. Plus that header heat is killing him being sucked straight in an already super hot head unit. Especially with no aftercooler and out on the street during brutal days of drag week. Definitely needs a power pipe or something custom to the cowl if he retains that setup! That pro volute is for front facing hole through the bumper or exposed head units on race cars. Besides that that is a bad ass car! Street cars like that is what it's about!
@tomsettles68734 жыл бұрын
First thing I thought also was header heat getting sucked in. That has to be costing 50-100hp on the big end of 1/4 mile.
@edwardthayer93864 жыл бұрын
@@tomsettles6873 definitely, I've seen the difference that causes on a dyno. Having the headers jet hot coated helped but you really want a power pipe to the fender well or going up to cowl area. Not to mention that this is a real street car and being older it doesn't have a engine shield or splash guard. Even the tiniest pebble, dust and dirt is not good for that impeller at all! Many years ago my buddy switch from an S Trim head unit to a T Trim, without putting the filter on he said "let's go for a few pulls" I said with it open like that! He said sure it's fine! This is when you couldn't get stuff overnight and it took a week to get that head unit. Well on the second pull a short piece of stick got sucked into the opening and F'ED up the blades bad. We live in Delaware, so the head unit had to be shipped back to California, repaired and sent back. Took a good 3 weeks. I remember the Vortech rep saying it was good it was a rock or something harder then the stick, because they only had to replace the impeller. The rep said a rock or anything like that most likely would have scarred the housing and most likely ruined the head unit!. Around the same time (1998) I had a Procharger (when hardly no one ran ATI) D1 on my car. I was getting around 22 psi of boost, I was running 10.05 but no matter what I did I couldn't get in the 9s. Running 9s then was dam near impossible with a street car. I got my hands on a cog pulley setup that I had no right putting on that D1. But I said it's just for 1 run. Well during my burnout I overspun the blower so bad the impeller flexed out, cut into the housing and broke into ALOT of pieces. The ONLY thing that saved me was my Procharger was aftercooler and the aftercooler caught all the pieces of impeller that came apart. I recently put in a A4 block that I has about 20 grand into. I have nightmares of what them impeller pieces would have done if the aftercooler wasn't there and they went into the intake! I'm not a genius or anything. I'm just a guy that's learned the hard way. So hopefully I can spare someone else the agony. Take care and thank you for your comment.

Car is totally cool except (literally) for the air inlet for the blower directly next to s header? That is a H(hot)AI if I have ever seen one! This has to result in some really elevated IAT’s when the hood is closed. Would think routing the air inlet towards the front of the car would make a significant assist in tuning and power?

Good it's nice for a change ,. Pontiac always received a bum rap why they never unleashed the real power , we ran a 421 bumped it to a 428, in a firebird.from the aluminum front end Catalina.

@moodybluemotorsportsDwneKnos2 жыл бұрын
If they'd had unleashed pontiac, there would had been very few chevelles novas camaros etc. Sold I believe so they seen pontiac about to pounder so some1 got scared and went crying to GM leaders and had pontiac ended, atleast that's what I'm thinking from my view and research, (tho I wasn't old enough around and I also was also probably crying over spilled milk and gummybears, well wait maby milk and cookies spilled) back then to remember

@@josephsperrazza3082 you surely enjoyed and actually can say you lived in the best Era of that this world has ever known I'm sure of, in 1994 I graduated and surely felt the ending of the cruising Era and hot rodding b4 it died for nearly 20 years, now I'm using old school engines with some new tech to compete with new age engines and technology on the closed down streets and tracks around my area an d with youtube and new age communications allow so much for what we do in racing and enjoying cars and such. The ole pontiacs design is quiet impressive, takes just a little effort to gain a whole lot!

@tomsettles68734 жыл бұрын
Why add a blower and keep boost so low? There are turbo honda 4 cylinders making same power. If he has an aftermarket IA block I would be at 12 lbs of boost minimum. And turn it up to 15-18 on drag day. 1200 HP easy. Pontiac guys play it too conservatively. Turn that mother up!!
@R0yL334 жыл бұрын
No intercooler. Depending on fuel octane & compression ratio, can't go much more than that.
@tomsettles68734 жыл бұрын
@@R0yL33 Yep. need to add an intercooler. The IA block can take up to 25 lbs of boost. Big Chief runs that or more.
@danmyers93724 жыл бұрын
Tom settles - Big Chiefs engine almost certainly has concrete filled water jackets so that isn’t an apples to apples comparison.

And those Hondas are almost coming unglued at way higher boost too. Spinning ridiculous RPM. This 474 stroker probably doesn't spin past 6000-6200 most of the time. Like he said the time of this video they're not even spinning the blower that fast and it's making almost 800 at the crank!
