This happened in almost every rumble where something went slightly wrong and it cost some wrestler their big moment to shine or an elimination that had to be done at the wrong time, etc. It was always this common because the Rumble itself is a hectic mess in nature and those are not robots, those are human beings. So there's no need to take a stand irl because something expected did indeed happen. There's always a potential storyline that could extend out of it which is always good for everyone.

Look in context about Roxanne Perez for a second: A smaller athlete even on the women's side, and she had to hang tough with women almost twice as big as her, and still managed to finish 2nd to Charlotte. I get Drew's resentment at his place on the Mania card, but similarly he's long enough in the tooth to know how it all works, not everyone can be in the title picture, and you've got him and Priest, 2 championship calibre stars both without a championship opportunity - would Drew rather go for a midcard belt, or build up a storyline feud and potentially have a banger of a match with Priest who is in a very similar spot? Given the options being Priest, a worse opponent or not being on the card - surely you make the most of it? That said, I would like to see Drew have a proper title reign, I think he could do good things with one of the top belts, and do think Creative should have long term plans for that goal.

Then he went to Sami Zayn and Zayn told Knight to go to the opposite corner and that was all he did until Paul got in the ring. Not taking anything away from Damien Priest, which I think is a superstar, by pairing him with Drew McEntire at wrestlemania if that is in fact, what’s gonna happen has nothing to do with his storyline that’s been going on for a while now with members and past members of the bloodline. He’s been talking about taking each member that had association with the blood line down with Damien Priest doesn’t fit that category. In the shift, the storyline to “you eliminated me so we must have a match at wrestlemania“ doesn’t make sense. It would make sense if there was no storyline behind McIntyre And that became the storyline. But there’s a built-in storyline there that it sounds like it’s not gonna happen and they’re gonna shift gears to Damien Priest. It doesn’t make logical sense to do that. Maybe it won’t happen. Maybe there are talks about it but nothing etched in stone. It is professional wrestling and storylines are continuing to change until it feels right. I have the upmost confidence in Triple H‘s ability to put one hell of a wrestlemania card together for Vegas, where all the matches mean something.
