As many of you requested here's a video of a Russian supermarket. I decided to go there with my mum and show you how we usualy choose products to buy. I'ts not like everyone goes shopping like us, but many people are quite concious about their food.
I'm sorry if this video is too long, but I want to show you the real Russia, and this is how my family buys food. Actually we have showed you only a half of the store. It is huge and we were already tired.
P.S.: It is was kind of the first time for me to go to a supermarket. I've been to a small one for 3 minutes only to buy sourcream, and didn't check any prices. So all emotions and surprises were real.

Why do you close your purse with a bag before entering the shop? It's not mandatory at all, and they can't say otherwise. But used to be the case in the past

It was my first time at this supermarket since 2014. At that time it was mandatory. My mum told me we have to do it too. I also saw another woman packing her bag … in China and Vietnam we had to lock bags too before going inside

i look up conversion rate. £10 is about 1100 roubles when you walk around saying everything is expensive, i thought i dont think so its normal ish, not bad but i understand 'expensive' is opinion specific. then i look up average income of russia, only 1,200,000 roubles, MUCH less than half the lower income here! shocking, i have a low skill job (no degree) in UK, i earn about 3.4 million rubles, skilled work can easily be double my income. also i giggled when you said sanctions do not exist while pointing at a no brand mojito xD i dont think sanctions were meant to get in the way of human day to day life, only to limit the profit of the big fat cats at the top. does the corn date really matter that much in russia? in all my life i have never cared about the packaging date of things, the corn here is always the same, they tin the product when they can, and they can when the vegetable makes it to the factory no? you pretty much cannot buy anything for less than 115 roubles here, that is equivalent to £1 and anything worth having is that or above.

Actually the average annual salary is 600k only. And even that amount is difficult to get for someone without good education. Of course we can say rent in Russia is cheaper.. but still. I’ve been less than a month here, with my parents buying food.. and I already spent half of the average salary. My friend works as a certified translator. Her salary is 45k and sometimes they have bonuses for 5-10k.. and she works a lot There was Campari liquor next to non-branded mojito, and before that there were different types of Martini bottles, and Italian coffee.. ☕️ but great remark😅

@matthew4107 Ай бұрын
@@inostrankatyt_eng yes, plenty of brand i recognise, pamper,s Gillette the list goes on and on, but again, i dont think sanctions meant to ruin your lives, but put pressure on the people making decisions. your friend earns 45k salary? 45k what? £ pounds stirling? or roubles? if roubles i assume that is monthly? the number is so different to what i am used to its hard to know sorry lol. if this is the case it makes sense why you say things are expensive, because they are! salary to me means yearly income unless specified otherwise. but i feel you use it to mean monthly income is this correct?
@inostrankatyt_eng
@inostrankatyt_eng Ай бұрын
@@matthew4107 yeah. In Russian we measure income in monthly salary. And 45k rubles , so it’s 390 pounds.. that’s why a 12 pound Gillette cassets or 2-3 pounds deodorant is expensive. Like I paid the same price in Sweden😅with a salary being 4 times higher
@matthew4107
@matthew4107 Ай бұрын
@@inostrankatyt_eng yes its crazy, £500 is not far above the minimum possible wage for a week. so to think of trying to buy products like gilette on £390 a month is impossible.

@@matthew4107 I also got stuck in 2014 prices. So it’s kind of a shock for me, but probably isn’t that shocking for other Russians. Like a simple pen for 30 rubles was the most shocking thing to me
