8:20 no, the locals shop mostly in shopping malls that are scattered all over Johannesburg suburbs and townships. downtown Joburg is run down and no longer our go to place, it is more popular with people who come from the rest of Africa and the more poorer locals.

@@mkdempisi I suggest you go to Joburg CBD tomorrow if you are anywhere in this part of the country. 80% of the people there are not South Africans and like TM rightly said the remainder are the very poor. I've seen your comments on this channel. Wanting "African solidarity" doesn't change the reality of the situation in this location. No need to be allergic to, or defensive about facts. And the fact is there is a migration issue.

@@brot6238 nah bro I am also against porous borders they are not good for any country l, as that is bad for budget aimed for lesser population but sanuxoka nithi 80 percent of CBD are foreigners, say businesses like clothing shops, faniture shops, acatually almost ever business except taxi but tekani uxoka and tekani ukusiphika bethuna, just because we don't afford KZbin to defend ourselves and even stats don't agree with this bullshit you claiming, we poor but we still south africans yes there are a lot of foreigners in the CBD and who reside there but on the video or people who shop there are South Africans, sanusiqhela nithi singama foreigners

I love this! When we talk about Joburg CBD this is what we are talking about. Not the overhyped and overmarketed Braamfontein and Maboneng. For anyone who has lived in Jhb will know that these areas are the most important.

lol That's because that part of Johannesburg is Lagos and Kinshasa all rolled into one. You're not bound to find many Europeans. (For that matter, most locals don't set foot there either. You would really have to be at the bottom of the economic ladder if you're local. Otherwise it's mainly migrants from the rest of the continent.)

@brot6238
@brot6238 4 жыл бұрын
@@theturbo1958 Yes Lagos is Nigeria and Kinshasa is the capital of the Congo. Lagos & Kinshasa are largely informal in terms of business and infrastructure. The part of Joburg in the video used to be the main financial district decades ago, but has been largely left to immigrant businesses & residents from the entirety of the African continent and south East Asia. That's why he intuitively feels at 4:28 that the place is well built, but feels disorganized. That would be because it has been largely abandoned by local business for decades. *In fact a lot of the tall buildings are completely empty inside.* And the immigrant businesses on the streets are essentially emulating patterns of disorganization of "Lagos and Kinshasa". Johannesburg has multiple business areas spread out across a vast area in different neighbourhoods. It's one of the reasons it has so many malls and business parks. So the locals don't have to go to the old City Center any longer to shop. It hasn't fulfilled that function for decades.

@@neilboulton9813 yes the wording is perhaps not correct but the cities that you have mentioned are richer than joburg which has housing backlogs and surrounded by informal settlements.
