EVs are like commodities like cell phones. Every 6 months or so, manufacturing and quality gets better and better, to say nothing of how prices overtime will continue to drop. EV battery prices are dropping in China and overtime will cost less to replace an internal combustion engine. Even now here in Australia, BYD is slashing anywhere from 3,000 to 6,000 AUD of certain BYD models. The Chinese are not blinking from a price war strategy, undercutting the competition which was how they dominated the Thai market and now they are doing the same thing in Australia.

Defer purchase for the moment if your ICE car is still working fine. It’s cheaper to maintain the old car compared to the cost of buying a new one.

I could be wrong, but here are my insights about hybrid electric cars. The nature of batteries is that they degrade over time and with usage. It’s similar to the concept of battery health in iPhones-when the battery health declines, the battery life or range decreases. With EVs, as the battery capacity diminishes, the range also shortens, which could reduce the efficiency of an HEV, and the gas consumption might increase to compensate for the lost range, potentially making it comparable to, or even less efficient than, conventional combustion engines. On top of that, replacing the battery is very expensive, which further adds to the cost of owning an EV. While EVs are undoubtedly better for the environment due to lower emissions, this aspect of battery degradation makes me question their long-term efficiency and practicality.
@dlsanvictores15 күн бұрын
Just the same really, whether its ICE, HEV or BEV. It's just physics and chemistry. Battery degrades capacity over time and continuous use, of which in turn reduces range. Same with combustion engines, it's efficiency degrades in time upon usage due to wear and tear thus reducing your mileage. Its a matter of you will use this vehicle, syempre if barubal ang pag gamit, the higher the maintenance cost.
@spiderpig584215 күн бұрын
Fully charging/completely depleting the battery will shorten it's lifespan and battery health. Also fast charging will degrade the battery faster. The Philippines is a hot tropical country and lithium batteries degrade faster with high temperatures. Lithium batteries also degrade whether used or unused over time.
@dagm311115 күн бұрын
@@dlsanvictores Thank you for your comment. However, I might slightly disagree with your statement that combustion engines degrade in efficiency over time and usage. While that may be true, I think the degradation is minimal, and with proper maintenance, you’d hardly notice any drop in efficiency. For instance, I own a 2017 Toyota Fortuner with over 200,000 kilometers on the odometer. I’ve replaced some wear-and-tear parts, but nothing major or overly expensive. In terms of fuel efficiency and power, I believe they’re still the same as when the car was new. I’m also confident that I haven’t spent close to 200,000 pesos on maintenance over the 200,000+ kilometers and 8 years of ownership. As mentioned in the video, the maintenance cost for an HEV battery alone is already around 20% of the vehicle’s price. I’m planning to upgrade my car soon and was considering going hybrid, but based on my research and realizations, I’m still not fully convinced to switch to an EV or HEV just yet.

I think Gas powered cars are still the best car. ATM. In my opinion I could be wrong as well. Owning a battery powered car not necessarily going to save you some money. I think what car company trying to highlights here is the fuel efficiency for Hybrid and the range for Full EV which no doubt that is great. However, if you're going to look at the longevity of the car. 1. How durable the battery 2. How much battery can be utilize in a full charge since it's recommended to keep the battery not to reach below 20% to extend battery health which most likely means that you can't utilize the advertise range of the car. 3. How much would be the resell value of it after 8-15 years It's going to be a tough sell if you will not replace the battery of the car. If you did replace it, it will cost you a lot of money and stuck with the same old car. Not unless car manufacturers make batteries more affordable in future.

dapat sinabi mo rin na 8-10 years or 150k-200k km ang warranty ng battery at expected lifespan ng current batteries ngayon is 15-20 years. Iisipin ng mga tao nyan na after 5 years palit na sila ng battery.
@jorgemontecillo371513 күн бұрын

padagdag din to, the reselling of EVs is a bad idea, no one will buy secondhand EVs. The second owner will shoulder the burden of replacing the battery.
@Fieldbrownman14 күн бұрын
Batteries after ten years or more are still valuable, degrading down to over 80%, which would still be high. Not a burden. Swapping it after 12 years for brand new battery would be cheap. I even expect it to become a promo someday, when you can do battery swap for free. Modern batteries are even recyclable. Companies like Nio, and in the Philippines, Vinfast, offer battery swap on subscription because they know batteries don’t degrade that quickly, and the process is easy. Also, look for people selling second hand ev. Can’t find them. EV Owners are not selling unlike ICE owners whom we can all see selling after two years or three years of their Hyundais and Subarus.
@jamesmadlangtuta315614 күн бұрын
@ if I would be a prospective second hand EV buyer in the future, then I would prefer buying a car that had its battery recently serviced. I dont want to spend another huge cost to service the battery, kinda defeats the one-of-the-many-purpose of buying secondhand.

As a owner of full hybrid cars May battery warranty na 15 years. Kung every year my maintenance ka sa car dealer. Aabot daw ang battery ng 25 years or for life pa. Proven na eto doon first hybrid 2nd generation umabot ng 20 years. Kung uuwi ako sa pinas for good. Definitely hybrid ako. Napakalayo ang Normal old school ICE car sa hybrid. 1) reliability 2) economy 3) maintenance cost ( zero repair for 5 years or more ang hybrid) 4) advance safety 5) driving ( smooth relax easy quite) 6) can live both world cities and countryside short or long distance driving. 7)life span 8) no more handbrake or old school braking system. 9) advance technology Pag mahal hybrid Jan Puede din electric sa akin pamalenke o shopping Lang. But for long drive I prepared hybrid mataas ang range nito like mine (920 kilometres).mostly sa EV my 200-400 kilometres range lang.

In other words, pareho lng sila minor difference lng. If u go full EV better save funds for battery replacement pra di ka magulat if need ireplace na. It came to a point na need na ireplace, gulat sila sa presyo as in parang bumili lng sila ng bagong sasakyan another issue is di na dw available yung specific parts kasi phase out na.
