Last year a coworker of mine bought a brand new car with less than 50miles on it. He worked 6-7 days a week doing 12 hours shifts to pay it off completely as fast as possible. A couple months ago he drove to the bank and made the final payment and on his drive home he wasn’t paying attention to the road and side swiped one person, over corrected the other direction into oncoming traffic and hit another person head on. When he was telling me this I asked if anyone was hurt and all he said was his car was totaled. I still don't know if the other passengers were injured.

Haha a mate of mine is a paramedic. He went to a call of an elderly woman in her nightie wandering the street and banging on people's doors. They didn't get much info from the caller so they figured she had alzheimer's and had wandered out of her house. He found her, asked if she was okay, and she screamed NO, lifted her nightie and her arsehole was prolapsed to the point that she had several feet of guts hanging out of her like a bauble. My mate just finished his story, finished his drink, crossed his arms, and said "so that's something that can happen to us", so calmly I fell off my chair laughing at his deadpan delivery of this absurd work story.

I nearly got run over by a car last September when I accidentally drove out into traffic with one of those electric rental scooters. I asked the witnesses not to call the authorities because I didn’t want the police to come out of a fear of there being damage on the person’s car I drove into. I later realised it was probably a defence mechanism to divert my attention from thinking about the fact that I nearly died (or at least thinking I nearly died), so while it was a pretty dumb thing to ask for people not to call the authorities, I have nothing but sympathy for myself considering how traumatic that event was. Much like I have nothing but sympathy for the guy getting riffed on in the short. Getting angry by potential damage to a vehicle hurts so much less than the alternative - fear of bodily injury or death.

Trucker, in shock ofc, manages to pull over, get his arm, puts it on the passenger seat & drives to the nearby hospital. Parks. Same here. Actually, I'd just bought a nice, recently swapped 89 HF CRX from someone for basically nothing. Some dingbat lady with her two kids in the back of her car, NOT in car seats or anything, t-boned me at a four-way while it was clearly my turn and I was almost halfway across. I was busy yelling at her ass until she hid in her car until my friend shuffled up to me complaining his elbow and arm hurt. She'd crunched in his door, basically. Except, I'd been fixing the door just a couple hours earlier and it didn't have the casing on it: just straight metal. I just stopped and helped him while we waited for the EMTs. I'm still pissed at that lady and this was like in 2009, lol. Funnily enough, though, I see this particular skit being my dad and he's far from a car nerd. That realm is for my youngest brother and I. My dad was the guy that would throw around a brand-new bag of shredded cheese and throw a tantrum about the grocery store being trash because the cheese was unopened and moldy. For like ten minutes. I finally looked at the bag. It was Jalapeño flavored, so had flecks or small green things in it. Lol, dude focuses on weird stuff then loses it. Sorry for the long stories. How the hell does health insurance work in the US? Am from Kenya and I have both the mandatory national cover and private insurance, I could have my soul transplanted and never pay a cent
@grichl882 ай бұрын
@@babachloe7140 you pay a premium every month or every paycheck, could be $50 if you want minimal coverage or as much as $2000 if you want minimal coverage but are rich. Basically what that means is, if something happens to you, you get a little discount on your bill if you went to a provider that accepts your insurance. Otherwise when you submit your claim your insurance screws it up somehow and either doesn't pay because of that or just denies your claim. It's even worse if you end up in an ER for something serious and you happen to see multiple doctors at any point. We have to avert our eyes from all doctors in the hallways otherwise they get added to our hospital bill and then our insurance will deny paying coverage for some of those doctors. Also, our hospitals usually like to double bill people, so you'll see doctors show up twice or even four times on your bill. It's so cool for no reason. I assume rich people just get sponsors to pay the bill or have some specialty doctors to handle things and reduce their bill so high premium plans are just to show off.
@melaninmonroe0072 ай бұрын
@@babachloe7140it’s pretty complicated because there’s PPOs and HMOs, etc etc. They cover a percentage. You pay for a plan (let’s say monthly). Then they will pay maybe 70% of the cost (some cover less/more). And they only cover certain hospitals, certain doctors, and certain procedures. And the insurance companies get to pick and choose what they pay for, which tests and labs they think you should get. So if your doctor thinks Drug A is the best for you, they can’t necessarily prescribe it because if the patient’s insurance company doesn’t cover it, they’ll have to pay out of pocket and those costs could be backbreaking. So they’ll prescribe Drug B, which may not have the same efficacy but it’s cheaper and the insurance company is willing to pay. They are the ones who make practicing medicine impossible and drive up the costs of care. I had an emergency and called to make sure my insurance company would cover the certain hospital I went to. Then I had to make sure the specific doctor I saw is covered by my insurance (this is a sneaky one that they get you with). The paperwork said they gave me a certain medication which they didn’t. I had to fight the hospital’s billing dept. Thankfully I was a medical student at the time and had the knowledge to be able to.

I recall hearing of a guy that broke… 5/6 bones in his legs (no, I am not counting the patella!) in a wreck. He was so amped on adrenaline that he was able to pull twi people out of the burning car that hit him before he crumpled. When paramedics arrived, he asked them to check the other guys first. “I may have sprained…” looks down, “…broken a bone or two. But are they alright?” He was taken to the hospital first

Omg man sorry that happened to you. I was also blown up in a burn pit tho. Had the smart idea to pour like a gallon of gasoline on the trash I was trying to to burn because it was a little damp outside and when I struck the lighter ....BOOM! The fumes ignited and I was engulfed. I lost my eye lashes eyebrows all my arm and leg hair and my hair on my head was smoking...I had 2nd degree burns all over my arms and legs and face some 3rd degree burns on my left arm...it was the most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my life. But luckily I healed up and you can't even see any scars which is crazy. So I can't even imagine what you went thru not being able to be in the sunlight for a whole year ..that must have been horrible. I will never ever use gasoline on a fire again ..ever!
@rasputinvitae41132 ай бұрын
I'm sorry you went through that, it's no fun. Mine was a 55 gallon steel drum exploding from slag getting thrown off from oxy-acetylene torches. Thankfully the bottom failed and not the top, I've heard true horror stories of the top failing and decapitating someone so I count myself lucky. We both went through which I'm sure you know they call a flash burn, where it penetrates through multiple layers at once instead of one by one. If you were awake for it, I bet you tripped out watching them peel off 2-3 layers from the burt areas like a reptile! Thankfully I was well medicated and looked after so I found it interesting vs terrifying. I hope you recovered well and thank you for your kindness.
