The real Karate NOT ONLY involves athletic training, BUT ALSO practices Kihon, Kata (along with advanced Bunkai) and Kumite (self defense fighting, combat training) systematically. We should be aware of the loss of true real traditional karate’s systematic and useful techniques someday. Sport Karate is good, especially good for health.But sport karate is NOT completely useful in real street fight or in ground fighting. Real Karate is practical and effective for self protection when in facing enemies at any time like in street fight or in ground fighting. Today, some people bring SHAME on TRADITIONAL Shotokan Karate. In fact, those people don't see the essence of REAL TRADITIONAL Karate. Real traditional karate is consists NOT ONLY a sport and self defense BUT ALSO humility, forgiveness, patience, self control, self confidence, useful methods, powerful methods, kindness, compassion, awareness and self discipline should always be before self-defence.” The essence of Karate is to BE HUMBLE and NOT to be ARROGANT.'
Taekwondo and Kyokushin Karate came from Shotokan Karate.
Shaolin, Shotokan Karate, Tang Soo Do, Kyokushin Karate, and Taekwondo, etc are brothers in martial arts history. Go to this Karate family chart: photo.php?fb...

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF KARATE? In order to master in Karate, one needs to have persisting perseverance and the instructor needs to teach his students properly. The objective of learning Karate is not to fight someone, it is to protect ourselves from enemies, for example, when someone attempts to stab you at night time in a street, tries to snatch something from you, you need to COUNTER ATTACK them to secure yourself, THIS IS WHAT KARATE IS FOR. We aren't criticizing and rejecting every single of Sport Karate. We believe every Karate man practices Kihon and Kata, but it's important to include powerful bunkai techniques in kata and powerful kumite. So, when a sport Karateka practices kata which contains bunkai and powerful kumite, I appreciate him as a real Karateka. Follow these 9 facts in your daily life: 1. Practice KIHON, KATA, KUMITE (POWERFUL) regularly. 2. Be humble at any costs. 3. Don't be belligerent. 4. Don't be arrogant. 5. Stand for truth. 6. Be honest. 7. Don't get easily anger (provocative) 8. Be patient as much as you can. 9.To win without a fight is the best, however, at some times, fighting back is needed when you encountered a dangerous situation and needed to protect yourself. Please don't forget to share this video to all of your full contact and sport Karate friends in order to spread the word "Real traditional Karate is different from today's sport Karate!"

If you cant even win in a contest with rules and referees what makes you think your karate will be any good in battle of life and death? You people who hate on competitive martial arts assume yourselves to be superior but you only believe this because you refuse to put yourselves to the test.

this kind of karate is still taught, and i believe the WGKF is coming close in bringing back some 'traditional' sport karate back into heavy/full contact continuous sparring, and karate combat is definitely a full contact league. they just need to adjust their rules to allow for common karate techniques like knees, elbows and shutos, and maybe extend the ground fighting limit from 5 to 10 or 15 seconds.

I am SO glad that there are still people who can appreciate how special and amazing traditional karate is and what it can mean to a person, a child and what it can do whilst growing up, it shaped me into the person I am today. Children today think martial arts are a way of teaching someone a lesson or to ensure you are top dog. That's not it... AT ALL, too much movies... Hollywood is DEGRADING the essence of traditional karate... My sensei: Stan Schmidt (JKA South Africa) is an amazing man and obtaining my Shodan through him and all the other great senseis who prepared me along the way, was an amazing journey into a world I would have NEVER thought possible... Traditional Karate is about Justice, Equality, Human Rights, Human Dignity, Unity, Freedom, Trust, Development, Transformation, Excellence and SO much more... It's just sad how most other martial arts which originated from Shotokan seem to think they are superior yet we never judge the others... We are all the same and can all learn much from one another if we only take the time to do so... No?

Su Su San , you've made one mistake. Karate and Kung Fu are NOT brothers. Kung Fu is the origin of Karate. it cames to Okinawa at first and the "Shoryiu" Karate Style is one of the oldest 4 Styles. Shoryiu = Shaolin. Karate means "Open Fist " but the original Symbol was this "唐手 " that means "Chinese Fist". it was the official name until 1930 when the nationalist in Japan came to the Government

The crap down all started with the world karate championship tournament, which is shown in this video. This is early tournament karate era where guys like Ninomiya participated. The idea was to have karate practicioneers meet and compete for fine honing. But what happened was focus of karate changed from perfecting karate to winning karate championships. The video clips shown here is the birth of " bouncy karate" what you see now is it's epidemic manifestation. Masses also like tournament karate vs combat karate cos it shows em a career path leading to price money.

We're not rejecting Sport Karate. Real Karate is the real self defense. In other words, "Real Karate" is real self defense martial art in combination of sport Karate. However, we strongly DISLIKE the "bouncing Karate (SPORT KARATE)" which we usually see at tournaments. We strongly DISLIKE Sport Karate without bunkai, without advanced kumite. If Sport Karate involves advanced bunkai and advanced sparring technique instead of bouncing for show, then Sport Karate would be recognized as "Real Karate." Traditional KARATE is practical in real life and the Japanese self defense that uses beyond both HAND and LEG techniques. The “traditional Karate” consists Kihon, Kata, Kumite, and meditation systematically and theoretically. TRADITIONAL Karate is the real combat striking martial art using punching, kicking, knee strikes,elbow strikes, open hand techniques, chokes, dodges, , joint manipulations, grappling, throws, take downs blocks, strikes, throws, restraints. “The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory nor defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants." -Gichin Funakoshi Sensei

Su Su San the actual moto of karate or other martial arts of simillar kinds is to try to prepare mind and body spirit by cultivating and constant practice continously so that not only your body becomes strong and adapt to pain and endurance but also mind becomes adapt to body movement in form of various strikes or lock throws stance slide etc. with fast and sharp reflex this al total helps to fight more effectively in serious condition till you can find way to escape danger or attack by peoples in some form. That doesn't mean you won't use any weapon that you will use as soon as you get in position or hold of either in your possesion or by taking out it may be actual weapon or any thing which is used as weapon all with simple and single motive to save your life and escape serious damage of life and honour! But also to develop a very calm mind and sensing capability where to able to differentiate between just normal fun or fight or actual threat and to escape or stop actuall violence by restrain and avoidance at the begining of problem and above all controlling anger! Because anger destroys capacity to differentiate between threat to life and just an adversary or opponent or not something serious! Anger many times actually gets the person itself serious harmed due to creating of violent situation without knowing and then could not stop it latter! Also anger often cause all power and energy to be used on innocent often loved ones or near and dear ones who are freindly instead of enemy due to lacking power of differentiation between friend and foe. Anger is the foremost enemy first elliminate it before any thing and the cause of anger being fear and dissatisfaction and no faith where it should be. Actually real thing is if you have trained in one martial arts only but with motive and effort to defend yourself from physicall aggression than its enough as techniques are same various movements of same energy just understand that you practice thousand martial arts and millions of technique or just one art and simple basic movement or techniques even one technique its same because its ultimately the same human body with same structure moving with different motion and way to defeat other body in martial arts. Every thing is same nothing is perfect but constant practice makes it possible and oneness of mind and finally faith creates both courage and believe to succeed and confidence to accomplice.

Real Karate is the best. 最良のベスト, Sairyō no besuto! (The best of the best)! Let's publicize the way of real traditional Karate in future! Everyone must learn Karate righteously and honestly. Karate can be practiced by every age, everybody, boys and girls. Love is better than fighting, tolerance is better than fighting, forgiveness is better than fighting, but fighting is better than surrender. But Karateka should be non-belligerent. If a belligerent person uses his Karate, his Karate is NOTHING. If someone uses his Karate for insulting, bullying, and arrogance, his Karate is NOTHING.

Karate is the best ... what? Martial Art? Matter of opinion. Kung Fu is far more beautiful (and ancient, if that's your thing). Best form of self-defense? Absolutely not - and a kick from the rear foot should never be attempted, so much of karate is telegraphy. Anyone can see that MMA is the way forward. But it should be preserved at all costs, to track the history of human movement. This 'bouncing karate' is certainly horrible.

Nautilus1972 You need to read more martial arts books. MMA is Mixed martial arts. That means, some people really learned every martial art to end and created its own under "MMA." That's preferable. However, some dishonest people are master of none (just like you). They didn't learn any particular martial art to an end and then established "Karate" or "MMA" or "Kung Fu" or "Wing Chun". Example, those "master of none (MMA), learned from Kung Fu for few months, Jiu Jitsu for few days, kickboxing for 1 month, wrestling for 2 month, Karate for 3 weeks, etc. I respect every REAL martial artist. Almost MMA people DON’T know a particular martial arts to "master level". Almost MMA don’t have one obvious style. So they are master of none in particular art. So, as a result, they open a school by "MMA." Remark: I'm not insulting anyone.

Nautilus1972 You know I really respect to Myint Sensei and uploader Su Su San's work done. The video is an ancient documentary. The old "Real Karate" was more practical. What you mean "the bouncing karate" is Sport Karate. Sport karate is not "Real Karate". Sport Karate, which you mostly see at tournaments; SEA Games as an example, is NOT "Real Karate". I saw Myint Sensei has 36 years teaching experience in Karate from this video. So by the way, what's about your teaching experience in any martial arts?

Then Bruce Lee was non. Coz he couldn't complete his Wing Chun (he didn't complete & went to US). He learnt Taekwando but didn't get black. He entered boxing match and got champ when he was teen. He learnt intensive high kick training from Chuck Norris by exchanging with his Wing Chun sticky hand (Chi Sao). Later he said no style, "be like water", flexible. As far as I knew if stick on one art up to master level then very hard to change another art. One art to another art contradicts. Hard to decide what have to get rid of and what have to still keep and what have to adopt etc. Smart people learn what they need and enter to competition. Most of the MMA didn't get black belt but learnt many arts and move on (they made sure what they've learnt and practice again & again to master in one technique, for example, kimura or arm bar or triangle or striking etc. Most of the fighters who got black belt stick on one art usually lost in MMA fight. Remember, if you want to eat banana then you need to peel off banana skin and eat it. The meaning is objective, try to get what you want in stead of wasting your time to learn and getting black. Those MMA people don't waste their time. They've objective. They learnt effective strikes method, take down, ground technique that suit for them. Then they learnt ground & pound, they learnt choke & break etc. Then they practice all round and in competition they use all their methods what they've learnt. Remember, to be MMA fighter, 3 to 5 hours/ day, 5 to 6 days/week have to train. Legendary UFC champ Randy Couture (wrestling based) didn't have black, Fedor Emelianenko (Russian Sambo), Kevin Randleman (wrestling base), Thiago Silver etc didn't get black belt but they were champ, believe me over 90% of one art black belt will be getting trouble to fight with them. There are some who got black in karate such as Machida, St Pere etc but changed their traditional art style and entered to UFC to fight. In MMA match, if use only one technique will be lousy looser. OK, one more reference for you, legendary fighter Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, who master in 10 arts did in square ring. He normally used boxing, karate & judo technique to fight. I think you need to read more rather than asking other to read more. Mohammad Ali vs Antonio Inoki, Mohammad Ali used boxing only, Antonio Inoki used wrestling, karate etc. Mohammad Ali was soundly kicked by Inoki & once Inoki was going to ground & pound but referee had to stop and at the end, judges & referee had to make it draw due to Ali was going loose. Later Ali had to attend hospital coz his leg muscles were seriously damaged by Inoki's low kicks. Conclusion, Ali used only one technique, boxing while Inoki used wrestling, karate etc. That's the different MMA vs master in only one martial art.

Kyokushin originated from Shotokan!? What!? Sure, Oyama sensei had 4th dan in Shotokan, but for some reason there is no mention in the video, that He started his way in martial arts from Kempo in China, and that he ALSO had 4th dan in Kodokan Judo and 7TH DAN IN GOJU-RYU. And started development of his own school after leaving Goju-ryu, not Shotokan. It can be seen if you compare traditional techniques of Kyokushin to Shotokan and Goju-ryu

The crap down all started with the world karate championship tournament, which is shown in this video. This is early tournament karate era where guys like Ninomiya participated. The idea was to have authentic traditional karate practicioneers meet and compete for fine honing. But what happened was focus of karate changed from perfecting karate to winning karate championships. The video clips shown here is the birth of " bouncy karate" what you see now is it's epidemic manifestation. Masses also like tournament karate vs combat karate cos it shows em a career path leading to price money.

Watching this brings back memory's when I studied Karate and other martial arts when younger. I was ALL about traditional training. I would jump in a snow-filled lake, train in the snow, etc. Also, people often say that MMA is "real" fighting, not traditional Martial Arts, that they can't compete. However, what they don't get is first often traditional arts practiced today aren't "traditional" at all, to where you train to fight in order to live, in other words hard, warrior training. Second, most arts were designed for self-defense encounters, NOT "sport" fighting which is what MMA etc. is. So, of course, there is potentially going to be "limitations" to certain arts, like a common complaint especially is Aikido etc. But I can promise, an Aikido practitioner that trains to really FIGHT, a Warrior in how they train, they WILL do good in the MMA etc.

Thank god I am at a Shotokan dojo that teaches this kind of full contact Karate (none of us like WKF sport Karate). I was told a couple of WKF guys came to one of our courses/sessions (this was before I started so I forgot exactly what it was) and left halfway through because they couldn't handle the training style (ie the type of training that makes you feel sick with exhaustion within an hour). Says it all.
@sususan9
@sususan9 5 жыл бұрын
You're right. They might couldn't have handled full contact Karate training because of they were always accustomed to learn sport that and sport this, sport Karate at their dojo, sports Karate tournaments. Full contact Karate practitioners like us can protect ourselves in a real fight. In order to master in Karate, one needs to have persisting perseverance and the instructor needs to teach his students properly. The objective of learning Karate is not to fight someone, it is to protect ourselves from enemies, for example, someone attempts to stab you at night time, tries to snatch something from you, you need to COUNTER ATTACK them, this is the objective of Karate is for. We aren't criticizing and rejecting every single of Sport Karate. We believe that every Karate man practice Kihon and Kata, but it's important to include powerful bunkai techniques in kata and kumite. So, when a sport Karateka practices kata which contains bunkai and powerful kumite, I bow him as a real Karateka. Follow these facts in your daily life: 1. Practice KIHON, KATA, KUMITE (POWERFUL) regularly. 2. Be humble at any costs. 3. Don't be belligerent. 4. Don't be arrogant. 5. Stand for truth. 6. Be honest. 7.To win without a fight is the best, however, at some times, fighting back is needed when you encountered a dangerous situation and needed to protect yourself. Please don't forget to share this video to all of your full contact and sport Karate friends in order to spread the word "Real traditional Karate is different from today's sport Karate!"

I think it is ironic that UFC / cage fighting has reawakened Martial artists interest in ancient Okinawan Karate. What really works? Well that is a tricky question when you have strong, well trained opponents trying to knock you down and rip your arm off. In my opinion Gichin Funakoshi was a visionary, not as a martial artist, but as the man who realised the potential of Karate as a way of instilling discipline and respect into Japanese schools and colleges. That vision has lead to Karate becoming a global sport, martial art, way of life, philosophy and I am thankful for that as I have trained for 30 years. It does not mean I believe that Gichin Funakoshi invented Karate or that he was the greatest martial artist that has ever lived. I have taught around 100 Karate students, Gichin Funakoshi indirectly has taught Karate to millions of people across the globe, and what a legacy. I still don't like Shotokan as a style though (sorry) and I moved to other styles quite quickly, but I respect Karate students choice if Shotokan is their style. Sensei Funakoshi had two instructors as a youngg man and he amalgamated his instructors techniques into Shotokan, so many instructors have done the same and our wonderful world of Karate and martial arts evolves, sometimes down a dead-end but sometimes into fantastic clubs where a great energy exists. I aspire to teach in such an environment. Osu

You said that you have trained for 30 years and taught around 100 Karate students. So, please let me know FROM WHOM you have trained Karate and WHERE your Karate school has been established. What was your previous style? Shotokan or Kyokushin? And what is your current Karate style? As for me, I respect each of real Karate style which means I don't feel that other martial arts are less important than Shotokan style or does not deserve respect like some homeowners often look down on plumbers. Thanks for your interest in our video. " Traditional Karate is about Justice, Equality, Human Rights, Human Dignity, Unity, Freedom, Trust, Development, Transformation, Excellence and SO much more... It's just sad how most other martial arts which originated from Shotokan seem to think they are superior yet we never judge the others... We are all the same and can all learn much from one another if we only take the time to do so... No?" Credit goes to Paul du Plessis's comment

Where did you get that first clip? I don't think I've ever seen a more amazing exchange in sparring! First of all the presence of mind to throw that front kick so quickly after dodging and doing a foot sweep. Then I've never seen a kick throw someone in the air like that, yet he immediately throws a back fist upon landing. I'd definitely be interested in seeing that whole fight if it's available.

That's a good job! Some people practice Karate for gold medals, tournaments. On the other hand, some practice Karate in order to protect themselves of snatching, bullying, street fight, and so on. Others practice for fitness purposes. Most importantly, it is necessary for Karate practitioners to always keep in mind of FORGIVENESS AND TOLERANCE as well as practicing Karate as ROUTINE. Thanks for watching and happy practicing Karate!
