Real Truth-Telling - NAIDOC Week Is Racist

Күн бұрын

It’s that time of the year again, NAIDOC Week, the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee, and this year, it’s even more racist than ever! Ill get to that soon. Aboriginal people already have a whole bunch of significant dates: Survival Day (instead of that pesky Australia Day), National Apology Day, Close the Gap Day, Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week, Mabo Day, International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, just to name a few. But in case that wasn’t enough, NAIDOC Week, another week assigned to Aboriginal causes.
In 2021, the theme was “Heal Country, heal our nation”. Remember, the only way to heal country was to get the prescribed medication as dictated by the Australian Government. Adam Goodes did it. “I did it for my mob!” Remember, it was the act of love needed to support the survival of Aboriginal people. NAIDOC 2022, “Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!”, OK, a call to action - sounds somewhat reasonable. In 2023, “For Our Elders”. Again, that sounds OK. But this year’s theme is, “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud”. Blak, Loud & Proud? How is that not racist? If we changed it to say, “White, Loud & Proud”, imagine the uproar, and rightfully so. As they intentionally spelt black wrong, I better spell white wrong, just to keep with the “I can’t spell” grammatical theme. If this sort of thing ever happened, you can bet the ABC would be publishing articles about the far-right taking over Australia. But because they’re Aboriginal, we’re just going to give them a pass here and let them openly be racist?
But it gets worse. On the ABC they published this article, “This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is ‘Blak, Loud and Proud’. Here’s what it means”, with of course the obligatory photo of Cathy Freeman winning gold at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. That’s funny, that was almost 24 years ago! It would be like us honouring Simon Fairweather every year. Who’s Simon Fairweather? He’s one of the world’s best archers. He also won gold at the Sydney Olympics, but we rarely hear anything about him. Cathy Freeman on the other hand is constantly being brought up every year because she is, well, you know why.
Anyway, in the article, they quote a lady by the name of Maddy Norris who seems to be a very unifying voice during NAIDOC Week. Blak, loud and proud. “I’m proud to be a blackfella. I’m not proud to be Australian.” Hmm, perhaps I was very wrong about her being a unifying voice. In her words, Australia is just a bad place. She continues, “I’m not proud of how Australia and the Australian government continue to treat First Nations people and communities.” How the Australian Government continue to treat First Nations people? Doesn’t the Australian Government throw billions of dollars every year at Aboriginal causes? Aren’t there a plethora of payments and programs to help Aboriginal Australians? What the hell is she talking about? Clearly, it doesn’t matter what we do, she, and others like her, hate modern Australia, and the ABC give this hatred a voice.
They also quoted Aunty Lynette Riley, who said, “Australia is still not proud of Aboriginal people”. Another very unifying voice.
On the NAIDOC website, we’re met with this message acknowledging the First Peoples and honouring their Elders. Why do they only ever honour First Peoples? Do the rest of us not count, you know, the ones that helped build modern democratic Australia? Why is it only the First Peoples that are acknowledged?
They of course have the obligatory “this website may contain images and voices of deceased people” message. My question, if this is a website for Aboriginal people, why would you put photos and voices of deceased people on there? If you know that’s offensive to some of your people, why do it? It just seems all so stupid, if you ask me. Of course, they’re flying the Blak, Loud and Proud message in the largest font possible.
You can also download their Supporting NAIDOC Toolkit, which is completely not racist, such as, “Make a purchase from a Blak business - make sure profits go to First Nations makers.” Again, imagine the outcry if we ran a campaign to support white businesses - make sure profits go to white makers.
Universities are of course in on the act. The University of Queensland for example are “celebrating the oldest, continuous living culture on earth”, they’re celebrating “Blak Excellence”, and they’re hosting a “Mini Blak Market”. As I said, just replace the word Blak with White, and prepare yourself for the public outcry.
This year’s NAIDOC Week isn’t promoting unity. This year’s NAIDOC Week is promoting division based on skin colour.

Sounds pretty reminiscent of 'historically appropriate" European way of life circa 1700-1900 (and also prior, sometimes post) "married to an elder at thirteen... permanently pregnant..." Sub the cave for a run down shack, and the "berries, grubs and small animals' for bread and cheese. How neat. Or are you conveniently forgetting "historically appropriate' Europe?

And she is also wearing a keffiyeh, which tells you much about her. If she cares so much about Aboriginal Australians why is she not wearing an Aboriginal art scarf. Aboriginals, being 3.2% of the population currently control about 49% of the country, soon to be almost 70% in a few years. Over represented in parliament at over 4% of sitting members. Prior to the voice referendum they had an Aboriginal affairs minister in a majority Labour government (the most hilarious thing I’ve heard in years is that minister saying that she had no voice). Untold billions upon billions of dollars thrown at them. If there are still so many problems then where has all the money gone (Labour will never approve an audit because they know it will show the massive rots and fraud being perpetrated). With all of the above and more, to have someone say that Australia or the Australian government does not care is just preposterous. All they are doing is progressively turning more and more Australians against them as other Australians are waking up to the massive discrimination taking place against them. Any policy or privilege based on race is, by definition, racist. Needs to stop now. We should all be treated equally.

In less than 250 years the settlers and their descendants have transformed what was initially their prison into one of the most advanced nations on the planet. Everyone wants to come here. Innovation, investment and often back breaking work so the sedentary ones can put their undeserving hands out. What gall.

Since acknowledgments and welcome to country are so frequent, I have taken to ignoring the virtue signalling and started to instead consider and pay respect to my own good and decent ancestors that survived the many perils of life and poverty to enable me to be born… and since I was born in this country, I have every bit as much right to it as any other person born here. The thing that irritates me the most is that the activists pretend that it’s all about compassion and justice while it is really the complete opposite.

I don't, but unfortunately white English decent living today is being painted with the same brush as our forefathers and paying for something we weren't even part of. I thing most white Australians would like a sorry said to us too and compensation for being blamed. My mum was 19 when she came to Australia with my dad, a builder believing they were doing the right thing to help build a better country. She never would have come if she knew her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would become second class citizens and be told " you can leave now".

Is it me or do Indigenous people look a lot whiter than the indigenous people of my youth? In America cultural appropriation is a big deal, it’s common place in Australia. Perhaps we need to be able to distinguish between the sycophants and real indigenous Australians. During the voice nonsense (nonsense as it was a waste of time and money) I recall a woman who was extremely white with red hair proclaiming she was indigenous. Oddly enough I don’t recall reading about Cook talking about the white redhead aborigines. I think there has to come a point where indigenous identity is relinquished otherwise the term first people will be ridiculous, it won’t have any meaning.

And how do we know their culture hasn’t changed in 60k years they had no writing system to even know how they lived even 5000 years ago. Is it just similar DNA of ancestors ? Cause if that’s the case aren’t we all supposed to have come from African migrations ? So wouldn’t some African tribe be the oldest ? Would love for someone that knows give a quick explanation.

There is a quick explanation. It is easy to talk B.S. when no evidence exists of your claims. You are right, every single human in Africa can trace their culture back further than anyone in Australia. Indeed, so can most of the entire Eurasian continent. Aboriginal Australia had some 250 different languages. Given that all members of a culture speak the same language, that means at least 250 different Aboriginal cultures. Plus an unknown number of extinct cultures. So how can they claim to be all one culture? Certainly not one mob. There is no truth to any of it.
