Some wizards and witches are sending me howlers! Just to be ultra clear: this video was purely a comparison between replicas sold by websites like Wish, and reputable retailers licensed by Harry Potter. It was certainly not a dig at people who can or can’t afford certain things - that is not what I’m about. I’m a Hufflepuff at heart under my Gryffindorness. Point being: I hope you enjoy this video for what it was meant to be, a little bit of fun looking at the differences. Lumos ♥️✨⚡️

Because it’s a piece of jewelry I imagine most people would like to wear it at least sometimes, so in that regard I think the one from which might be a little better. If you were to get a replica from wish and it turned out to be the same size as the real one, but the person was expecting to be able to wear it they would be very disappointed

In fact, the "fake" timeturner looks a lot more like the one in the harry potter films. The size and also the colour of the sand, plus the fact that the words are engraved in it do make it more alike to the real real one. Of course, the quality of the real replica (which I own) is amazing, but the words are just printed on and that makes it look a bit cheap. I've also thought for a while that it would've been nice if nobel collection had really tried to reproduce Hermione's one, just like the makers of the one from wish did. (Edit: the chain is also more similar to the one in the films)

You can’t expect any merch to be perfect, realistically. As a teenager I bought (well, begged my parents for) the Noble Collection time turner and Hermione’s Wand (at different times and I know I’m privileged just to have gotten them, things like that were a rarity for me but still). Anyway, my time turner broke the first week I had it, because I wanted to wear it and I was dancing with it on and one of the dials flew off, and I never found it. Also, on my Hermione wand, you can see the end of the metal core poking out at the tip of the wand, they just painted over it but it ends flat instead of in a point. These are the official items, and they still aren’t the be-all end-all perfection you expect. So I understand most fans wanting to buy cheaper versions that still look pretty good and magical to the non-collector’s eye (even though I’d rather look on Etsy or somewhere where I know the creator of the piece is getting fairly compensated). At the end of the day, you should only spend money on these kinds of things if they make you happy, and they can still make you happy even if they’re a non-official version that sells for a price more within your budget. I just think it’s important to mention that the expensive Noble Collection pieces have flaws too. Your representation of them as perfect did bother me for that reason. Imperfect merch at any price point is still equally magical because it still connects us to the story we all love.

If you're going to be paying for something, whether it's 50$ or the 1$ fake, you might as well know what you're getting into. All she's doing is comparing them and going in depth about the quality. I'd just like to point out that Wish gets its products from China where manufacturing largely consists of people working 11 hours a day for wages that are too low to live on. Furthermore, many Chinese factories employ children and teens, which is all to say that the reason these things are so cheap is that they're made using the lowest paid labor possible. I'm not saying you can't buy cheap replicas because the noble collection can be expensive. But Wish is just as unethical to labor as using bubble wrap packaging in a subscription box is to the environment. There are lots of Etsy sellers and artists who make these kinds of things more affordably and it helps support small business. Just putting that out there for the world.

I don't know so I'm genuinely asking, do you know that where Noble Collection sources and manufactures their products from? It's likely China also - although I'd be happy to be proven wrong. My biggest complaint with Noble Collection is that for the price, I find a lot of their items just as cheaply made with inconsistent paint jobs (especially the wands).
@ikezawayorozuya97465 жыл бұрын
@@GnipMuffin Sorry this is a long answer, but it's a great question because this is the reason I've stopped purchasing Noble Collection items for more than a year now. The short answer is yes they manufacture in China too, and then distribute from a number of European countries including Belgium. They have obviously some level of quality control over their products in whichever factory lines they own in China, these are then divided into 3 categories - the ones ready for selling in official shops, the ones with more significant defects that are sold for cheap usually not making it into the e.g. US/UK/EU markets, but entirely available with some connections or access to the factories, and the last category where they are trashed. The paint jobs that are inconsistent obviously still passes the standard threshold they have set for their factories. Long answer (you can skip): The company's been around for more than two decades, from what I can tell, the parent company is literally Noble Collection located in Virginia, U.S.A. Because it's still a private limited company not on any stock market that I could find (I would love it if someone finds contradicting evidence because I really had trouble uncovering this company), I was not able to dig out any publicly available annual reports. This includes both financial reports and CSR reports. Clearly they would have had to submit their financial reports to the governments in US and UK even if done so privately, but any company not publicly listed is likely to not have a CSR report. This means they are not likely to be held publicly accountable for any unethical manufacturing and hiring processes, and thus their operations are UNLIKELY to follow UN Global Compact standards, ISO 9001/ ISO 14001, and OHSAS. They don't need to pay their workers well or give them good standards of living in China factories. This is the case for actually many companies whose products we purchase that were originally made in China. That being said I don't think we need to simply write off Noble Collection as a company (the debate of divestment vs. engagement). I think we can always email the company, email the president (Bassem Khoury I believe?) to engage them - tell them we are responsible consumers who care about these issues and would like them to produce some assurances and evidence to that effect. That would be a win-win course of action.
@GnipMuffin5 жыл бұрын
I love long answers! Thanks doing some research - before posting I had checked their website to see whether they mentioned "made in ____" but otherwise wouldn't know how or what to look for. While I agree that unregulated and "Made in China" doesn't automatically mean bad working conditions or low wages, I guess my point was that higher cost items, and the illusion of better quality (packaging does wonders) items doesn't necessarily equate to better working conditions either. It is my [limited] understanding that a lot of designer clothes and accessories are made this way as well with just a much bigger mark-up due to brand recognition. Though sites like wish are more obviously linked to such practices, it's the more well known, "reputable", expensive brands that get a pass from the public - if you are going to scold wish, I think the responsible thing is to look into every company you are buying from (even though that isn't always as easy as it sounds). It does surprise me to learn that it's based in Virginia though, considering it seems like the Noble Collection UK gets items first (unless those are separate companies).

I think the comment on the wand itself was a tad too harsh. I mean, for the price point, it wasn't that horrible of a replica. I'm sure the fact that it was bent was unluck, but the rest of the replica itself could be worked around. With a bit of repaint on the gold, it would be a perfectly reasonable prop for cosplay or just display. The imagery of it being 'tossed across the room' after the review gave off a really odd vibe to the video. I just can't help but compare the sort of negative approach to something who will never be as perfect as the real replicas to, for instance, Safiya Nygaard's approach in a similar sort of video. Okay, I don’t want to sound mean, but, my parents are financially stable, my mom does AirBnb and my dad runs a furniture manufacturing company. But with lockdown and quarantine, things have been quite bad for us. I don’t really want to go spend almost $70 on 3 coins, I may as well use a few cents and imagine that they are the gringots coins, or $130 on the diademe (that’s 100% spelled wrong), the Slytheryn locket from wish honestly isn’t that bad, compared to the real one. The Wish items, although they are not the official replicas, they still hold magic within them. Back when we were financially stable, my dad got me the official replica of the elder wand, and I was stupid enough to give it away. Also my problem with it is that she talks about them as if they're real - as if she's managed to track down and purchase the real lost diadem of Ravenclaw or as if the little glass stones are actual diamonds etc. These are replicas of the props which were imagined by the people in the art department of the movie production based on their description in the books. You're a wee bit harsh with your reviews! When things are about 90% cheaper, of course they're not going to be the same quality, but most of them do a pretty good job of looking quite alike to the expensive replicas. I'd understand if you were comparing knock offs that were trying to sell them at a fairly similar price, but just seems quite harsh as is. I actually think the blood pact necklace looks better being half the size - I think the replica looks cheap because of how large it is, but of course the rest of the necklace is better since its double sided and such. To be honest, none of the wish items you shown were terrible - definitely acceptable for the price and great alternatives if you don't want to, or can't pay the full price. Although perhaps not the egg as it is quite expensive and broke immediately.
@xXxIMNOTANGELxXx5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say you can be anything but harsh on aliexpress sellers as they make these ILLEGALY. She is showing this to real collectors as these are advertised as real replicas, which they aren't and would certainly be a money waste to people who collect these.
@SpellsAndStitches5 жыл бұрын
@@xXxIMNOTANGELxXx Outwith the legal element and just basing it on likeness and the price for the comparative likeness I think its was quite harsh. @xXxIMNOTANGELxXx5 жыл бұрын
@@SpellsAndStitchesAgain, she was comparing it to the REAL replicas for a reason. And that reason was to show that if you are a serious collector "you get what you pay for". If she was comparing it to random HP related wearables she'd probably wouldn't be that harsh but collectibles are more than wearables and you want them to have some value and to last longer than one opening. Fake colletibles have literally zero value. It's just money wasted. But the real ones can get higher in price with years when they are not made anymore and collectors will look for them. Nobody will look for a pendant for 2 dollars made by a dying child, sorry.

@SpellsAndStitches5 жыл бұрын
@@xXxIMNOTANGELxXx I get what you're saying, but usually people buying items from wish are doing so because they can't afford the replica's and are not looking for the item to hold monetary value, but want them for their own enjoyment and just to look similar to the item - in which case I think pretty much all of the items do that. Obviously from a collectors point of view, the official items are superior, i'm definitely not disputing that. Just saying, all the fake replicas do a reasonable job for the price they are and I just think the tone of the video could of been different. In almost every instance the official and more expensive version of items are better, so in that case it was almost pointless to make the video - unless to show those who can't afford the real products, and are looking for a reasonable substitute.

I actually liked the wish Slytherin locket more than the expensive version. The wish version is actually green on the outside, while the expensive one is mostly amber-y in color (or at least looked that way on camera); also the magnets work fine for opening and closing, and once there are any pictures inside the locket nobody would be able to tell there're no green velvet fabric. Overall a beautiful piece and the price is great. I'd say for this specific case, the only pro the expensive version has over the Wish version is the display case, which despite nice is not the point of the product. One could buy a fancy little box/hanger for $2-or-so separately if they want to display it, and it'd be about the same.

Emeralds. Green gemstones are emeralds. The difference in the way you treat the wish items and your collections is very different and probably the reason they break as easily. It feels also like you went into this with a mindset of just hatting on the wish items and showing off your expensive collection. I don't blame you as I am a collector too (although I am a Star wars collector), but damn, the tone of the videdo is very snobbish and the smirks while opening the wish items do not help the case.

You're correct. I gave a neighbor of mine a Time Turner for Christmas which she enjoyed very much, saying she would wear it with her dark blue, velvet dress. About three months later, I ran into her wearing that same dress, but not the Time Turner. When I asked her about it, she lowered her head and answered she didn't wish to wear it in public, because her own sister had been a victim of a mugging, her gold chain had been snatched from her neck, injuring her in the process. I told her I understood, and I saw her wearing it during a New Year's party. Now, that I know about Wish, I'll let her know where she can obtain a knock-off and not even worry about it being snatched, because she can always obtain another one.

Your replica horcrux is still not "the" horcrux ring. Because as you said, it is not wearable. Whats the point of a replica from something that is meant to be worn but you cant wear?I totally understand that your collection is far more "real" and that you show it as comparison, because thats exactly the point of compare something.But you tend to be a bit overboard with "This is so magical, this is so pretty, this is so precious, etc etc". That makes the whole compare thing very, very biased and not much to watch.(And yeah, when you try to force open the nobles replica will break too. Maybe not as easy, but still, never use force on something as delicate)
@nataliewhitfield12895 жыл бұрын
VioletPapillon yes but these are collectors items and are not made for practical reasons. But I see where you are coming from.
@VioletPapillon5 жыл бұрын
Natalie Whitfield of course these are collectors items. but still, a replica is a copy and nothing else. So a copy of a ring that is worn in a movie should be what? Yes, a ring that can, not must but can be worn. And not only that, worn by a 16 year old boy so the size of the "real" replica is even more absurd. It may be a more imposing ring, but that makes it not a good replica. If you go and change (major) details than you cant name the result a replica, because it simply is not a copy anymore. You see, when she sows us the diadem she talks about how you can actually wear the "real" replica and not the fake one. But when it comes to the ring, she totally forget that because she is bedazzled from all that "real real real!" stuff. i do like her collection! i just dont like illogical reasoning.

It isn't fake if they don't claim to be Nobel Collection. They offer cheaper alternatives for those of us who can't afford the more expensive replicas. Also, Wish is cheap because it's where unsellable products go. The businesses know they can't make a profit, but they at least want something. Even if it's just a pound. It's hard for smaller businesses to compete with collosal ones like Nobel Collection.

As nice as they are, the real replicas are just versions of movie props, probably all made in China where the 'fake' ones are also made. My 'official' Snape wand was made in China as was all the 'fake' but a quarter of the price ones were. I refuse to spend my hard earned cash on props, however the 'fake' props in my opinion are good value and they are what they are. They make me happy and that to me is all that matters!

@CALLIE JEAN Wow that was a year ago and of course it is her right to spend her money on what she wants.
