Nice playing dude! I think UAD does a great job at getting the feel and the raw sound right. It captures how a real Marshall is unmixed and you get harsher frequencies from those older amps that almost have a raw di sound to them. The amp sounds slightly brighter but there is a frequency when hitting a note or chord that I feel the plugin exaggerates more than the amp does that I don't like. You could probably mix it out to be identical.
@gtr19832 жыл бұрын
You have to be careful not to overload the UAD Marshall input or you get that harsher sound, also keep the treble around the centre position or less and maybe use some presence instead.

don't know how much youtube compression played a part but for me the real marshall was much brighter and more real sounding and the UAD was dark to the point of sounding muffled and quite lifeless. I would, however, shoot out against something like an Audio Assault or Neural DSP rather than UAD.
@georgetwydell61663 жыл бұрын
No compression at all from my part, but listening to original audio it isn't much different in higher quality settings on KZbin. Just straight into the amp on both and you are hearing the completely raw track for both. I agree though the real amp has a much brighter mid range punch. Also what you can't experience as much is the actual response the real amp has over the sim. I'll see if I can get hold of a demo version of them for a shootout. :)

I’m not quite sure what you mean with the cab room part in your comment? Both the real and UAD amp are going into the exact same Cab sim plug-in set exactly the same! I agree though, the Softube amp is very good!

It’s almost like the difference between two of the same amp model.

All the original amps, and HW amps had slight tonal differences so yeah exactly!

Man, i come back to the video because i really like the tone of the real plexi. Is it the HW or tge standard SLP by Marshall?
@georgetwydell61662 жыл бұрын
1959HW :) I don’t think there is a huge amount of difference, if any, in tone between the hand wired and non hw version. The reason I got this one was because in case of any particular incident if needed repairing it would be so much easier and cheaper to repair. Seeming I use this for every gig it was the most sensible thing to do. PCB boards are a pain in the arse for amp technicians.

Thanks for the well dobe apples to apples comparison! The original smokes the sim even on phone speaker. As usual, there is a massive hole in the midrange info compared to the real amp. Is the Rivera a reactive load?
@georgetwydell61662 жыл бұрын
I agree there is much more mid range and also the feel of playing it. However for an amp sim a fraction of the price, can’t knock the softube sim! I think it is a reactive load yes. Since this video I’ve actually gotten the BOSS TAE. It has the knobs to change the impedance of the load to match what a real specific cab would be. It does sound fantastic. I still have the rock crusher though, I need to do a comparison between the two basically doing something similar to this.
@amalgamaudioLV2 жыл бұрын
@@georgetwydell6166 Yeah, that would be interesting too. I was asking because before i went to a reactive load, i had a hot plate, which made the amp compress more and get way more mids than it actually should. It was a very different sound, which i liked too. So i was wondering how much the load might have an effect. Nowadays i trust the sihr reactive load the most and i also read good things about the TAE.
@TimMilliken2 жыл бұрын
Interesting question. I have two Hot Plates that were my first attenuators. Just used them to tame my combo amps. I got the UA OX a couple years ago. I need to compare them to see if I hear the difference in compression and midrange.
@georgetwydell61662 жыл бұрын
@@amalgamaudioLV just to confirm the Rock Crusher is a reactive load. However I must retract my support for the TAE as it damaged two of my amps, including the super lead in this video. It’s all repaired and good as new however this was my 2nd TAE after one already caused issues before. I put it down to just bad luck but two units isn’t a coincidence. I have replaced it with a Fryette PS-2A which I must say I’m blown away by. Yes it’s far less techy that the TAE but it sounds unbelievably transparent, both the sound and the feeling. I wish I gotten it sooner. Now things have settled on my ‘gear’ front I will actually do that video but with the Fryette. I didn’t want to post bigging up the TAE while unsure how safe it was. Having done research a few top amp designers such as Dave Friedman have expressed their concerns over the impedance from the TAE after having run test. They also expressed their love for the Power Stations as well and endorse them.

These comments think that thin sounding amp is better than the plugin? Nah. Give us a blind test and I guarantee you the sim wins. WAY fuller and warmer sounding.

There are several different mic options with the UAD Marshall Plexi. Have a play around till you find the right one you like... also maybe try unjumping the inputs. Or if you want a 25w greenback sound like I do in this, bypass the cab and then put the softube half stack in the ‘inserts’. Then bypass the amp.

@@charleslivingston803 Thanks man! The cab sim im using is just the 4x12 in the softube amp room half stack. Its actually the cab you can use in the 'lite' version essentially that you get standard :) Its definitely 25w greenbacks though, I recognise that tone with my amp and an sm57 anywhere.
