Great video, for once showing Swindon in a better light.

This is your best out and about vid Simon. The guy at Arkells was so interesting and articulate and had a real passion for the industry. Initially I was a bit concerned that the vid would be too long, but it was great, a real film, I was hooked. Love your passion and its good to see that your following has garnered respect. This is definitely the future for you. It's like a historical document in terms of industrial revolution, but with 🍻. Love it, keep it up. Loving the diversity in the channel, which is reflected in your positive outlook to seek out different avenues for the channel. Brilliant. Well done 👏 👏 👏

Brilliant film of Arkells. Thank you. You picked up on Ushers outside one of the pubs. Ushers were based in Trowbridge The brewery closed around 2000 and brewing equipment bought by North Korea and shipped over to Pyongyang!

Brilliant! Just a lil bit of info.....Much like Mr. Arkell, my Family history is interlinked with the Railways....My Great, Great, Great, And On, And On, And On....Uncle was George Stephenson; The inventor of The Rocket Steam Train and, indeed, I work for the Company that invented the Motor Car. So it is really interesting to see such history and reverence for that went before us being utilised today and also in the future, I am sure. Also, I moved to Swindon just as C-19 was hitting and moved back to Milton Keynes just as the C-19 "New Normal" started...Brilliant timing; That's one of my special skills.... Wood Street & Devizes Street are good. I am really pleased that you discovered Magnum; They are BRILLIANT in there! I have spent sometime in there discussing all things Beer and my Partner all things Gin with the owners who are friendly, welcoming, knowledgably interesting without being condescending...They really do want you to enjoy what they sell! The Vic. is AMAZING! Friendly, funny, and just wonderful...They also have some great Bands playing there. The Hop Inn....What can I say!? Great Beer & Cider, Superb Food and they love Doggos! Oh! And my old neighbour, is the Head Chef at The Biplob....Stunning food and service, there. Sadly, and as my opening line states, I hit Swindon just as C-19 landed so was unable to visit the Arkells Brewery, but have sat at the traffic lights, staring wistfully out of my car window trying to imagine the interior machinations and workings of the Brewery, many times....Some Pals who have been round there described it thus..."Wonderful! It's like a Jules Verne image inside the old building". Come have a squizz at my Food & Drink Exploits on Instagram : @littlebearbbq_and_food

Finally got round to watching the full episode. WOW simply putting it this is tremendous! The brewery is so much more interesting than the “push button” breweries of today. This also highlighted to me the importance of these videos being filmed just by Si and not having a crew with him. This is real tv for me, it’s real life and that’s why so many people enjoy watching these out and about videos. Si well done again mate and this is why I will always be a member of the channel and will always support you and the channel to get more of this content.

Another great addition to the series, and so useful. I went to Swindon for a day last year specifically to check out the craft beer places - every single one in this video I missed (I think I went to taprooms and new town mainly). Great to know there's plenty more to see, and Arkell's looked amazing!

Brilliant film that actually showcased a piece of the good side of my home town, it really is a hub for people who have a love and passion for real ale and craft beers, we just don't ever seem to advertise it as well as you have. I live just a stones throw from the arkells brewery and am very proud of the local history and contributions they have made over their many years. I do think you need to pop back and do a part 2 as there are a few more places you didn't visit or were closed on this occasion and woukd love to see your reviews and opinions.

What you said about “how often do you see pubs being taken over by someone with a massive passion for beer” is spot on. It’s so rare. It’s either tap rooms (which for me there still isn’t enough of anyway) or really nice pubs with really rubbish beer. I’d love a combination of the two and I had hoped with the rise of craft beer and the resurgence of German and Belgian beer that pubs would change but it’s still not happening. Shame.

When I go to a pub I look for quality local beer. Many of the craft brewer pubs sell maybe 80-90% just IPAs and Sours. Just make a good lager/pale ale/amber ale/bitter/porter and the odd seasonal ale and I'm happy. One thing they used to do in Tasmania is to brew a special lager with fresh hops during the hop harvesting season. It was SO good, wished more breweries would offer that.

Is there any chance you could do a pub tour of Plymouth, its not much further than Swindon....I live here and think Plymouth is VERY behind with the times when it comes to small breweries bottle shops and taprooms but you seem to be able to find unusual breweries! I've heard of Arkells it's sometimes sold in Devon, excellent beer!!

The Beehive on Prospect Hill used to be a good locals pub on three levels with a reputation for good real ale and woolly jumper music. It would've meant another climb from where you were. Amazed you found The Roaring Donkey... back in the Eighties it was called The Rising Sun but everyone called it The Roaring Donkey so it would appear they've changed the name... I may have got that wrong but remember something odd about the sign.
