Good Morning 🌄, I tried this beer last weekend, I thought it was good but not Great. I personally think at this time of year it should be a Stout or Porter. Or a proper Winter Warmer. Take care 🍻🍻

When you reviewed that many beers, It does become challenging to rate beers on their merits or how an average person would view it. 2 new to me belgium beers I’ve had recently, would have been in my best beers ever category years ago. Whereas now they are in my top 20 of 2024. I’m trying to watch more of your content again, as I’ve always loved you are a KZbinr and your reviews.

I really enjoyed this one. Some subtle Belgian notes and a good malty backbone and some warmth from the ABV.

The bottle alone, is probably a quids worth. Improve quality and raise it by a quid or two

7.9%, 750ml.... £4?! That's pretty good nowadays. I also had the 6.6% Leffe at a spoons in Exeter recently.
@tomwilliams739127 күн бұрын
With all the taxes, I agree £4 is a good price. Spoons sell Leffe for about £4.80, much cheaper than the £7-10 elsewhere! Do they still import the 6.6% version.... I know with Carlsberg they have kept the 3.8% one.

It's 6% now. & barf due to UK contract brew (same old story)
@JosshDockerty-qj7ur22 сағат бұрын
It’s 6.1% now and definitely glucose syrup added because it’s sickly and far too sweet.

I remember there was a beer in Lidl last Christmas that had the same black bottle with cork and same(?) abv, but was branded as a french beer. I wonder if it's the same stuff?? Possibly Goudale - Biere Grand Cru

Same in Aldi I think, just a bog standard brew

Same as last year picked it up on the first Sunday in October at the Chesham Sainsbury's during the bus running day.

Looks good value, tasty in a nice bottle, decent ABV. I'd be interested. : )

I agreed before I watched this ...its the experience. Its popping that cork like the old days 20years ago when leffe was fantastic. I've had a couple of these this year and it's also about refilling your glass because it's 750ml...and a good strength so you can take your time ....but its not a great beer ,its OK...feels a bit rough to me.would rather have old leffe
@tomwilliams739127 күн бұрын
I wonder if it's the same company that brews the Aldi special beer in a black bottle? £4 isn't too bad these days for the ABV, the bottle looks good for Christmas day.

Hi was in Morrisons today & they were selling Old Speckled Hen & Hobgoblin "Session Ales" both 3.4% & both pretty cheap, Any idea if they are worth buying?
@PaulJones-k3f27 күн бұрын
3.4? thumbs down mate
@brianwoods239527 күн бұрын
Yeah there not bad at all, at a £1 for a 500ml bottle. Start off with a few of them, then go on to your Fullers, Theakstons, Shepherd Neam at around the 5% 6% abv.
@tobyjackman321223 күн бұрын
Both almost certainly pumped with syrups I expect 🤦🏾♀️

I was in Sainsbury the other day, saw it, picked it up, read the description after looking at the volume and ABV and put it back on the shelf. A celebration ale for the summer, definitely not for the winter/Christmas period. Yes it is well priced at £4 for a 750 ml bottle, but I want to have a winter warmer/an Imperial Stout or similar. It's like the other major breweries who release their Christmas beers roundabout now. meaning those that are in the big supermarkets. They all seem to be in the 4 - 4.5% ABV range, and from past experience are insipid. Obviously they are weak so that people will drink more of them. Shepherd Neame and a few others are different though. Their Christmas offerings have always been great. It's just getting hold of them locally without having to buy a case and shipping cost. Roll on the Fuller's Vintage Ale that will be released next month. EDIT: Lidl usually sell a hearty French cidre in a similar bottle for £3. That's just how they bottle it. Doesn't mean I will buy it!

Decent price for a beer of that strength, love my pubs but I wonder what price it would be in them 🤔

When did Leffe change to bottle caps ??

I have bought one to see if my experience matches yours.

It did. I enjoyed it as I like La Goudale, but it is, as you say, nothing any more special than that.

Saw this then saw a bottle and had to try it. Agreed, high abv, French, plenty of flavour, but not a great beer. Nice corked black bottle for Halloween, though!

7.5%..... now we are talking a nice strong beer, few of them on christmas eve watching tv specials with the C word added, looks better than the M&S crap u reviewed a little while ago... £4 is OK as u said compared to the crap craft beer cans out there..... gonna get some of this at the weekend, and no I ain't waiting till C to drink it 😂😂😂

@davidwalters31327 күн бұрын
You would only want 2 bottles for the evening. So very reasonable price really.
@notanyone120627 күн бұрын
If it was amped up and £8 on the supermarket shelf there it would remain I think. The normal supermarket shopper isn’t going to drop £8 on one bottle of beer.
@tomwilliams739127 күн бұрын
£8 is definitely too much for a supermarket beer, you can get a decent bottle of Taste the Difference wine for £8 in Sainsbury's!

Asked before but why do you refrigerate this type of beer?? It’s unnecessary and kills the taste.
@rinx3427 күн бұрын
Dont know if that applys here as well, but fe. wheat beers have to stay in colder enviroment. Ca 10 C* I bet. If warmer, taste goes off, too sour and loose taste balance. Interesting indeed. I just had that experience with Weihenstephaner Hefe

All this says is that you can't discern the various complexities in a beer's flavour. Maybe stick to Fosters?
