Surely the Carlsberg can no longer be called 'Export' if it's brewed in the UK. Used to be a local pub here that did it on draft in the 90's. Was really nice back then.

Here in Ireland, Heineken is the best selling lager. Carlsberg isn't that popular. There's a running joke that everyone has that one uncle at a wedding who drinks the Carlsberg while everyone else drinks Heineken. My dad used to say when Heineken first opened the brewery in Cork, pubs would serve as they do in the Netherland. Wash glass out in cold water, pour the beer so it would have 2.5 finger head. They had to change the way it was being served soon after from all the comments on the head being so big and people believing they weren't getting their moneys worth. Unfortunately, Heineken is served with a 1 finger head these days.

Do we blame the nanny state, corporate greed or ,at the risk of being controversial Brexit? Probably a combination of the three.

Interestingly, until recently, you could still single out imported Heineken by reading the back of the bottle. It was quite common to get Dutch-brewed stuff in the bomber bottles. Now it just says “Brewed in the UK and Netherlands”, so it’s a lottery. Edit: I should have finished the video before commenting 😅. I believe the six-packs of 330ml cans-shaped like mini barrels-are commonly imported.
@Searly255 Жыл бұрын
The way to tell now is the carbonation, the UK brewed stuff has fast moving and the Dutch stuff slow moving. You're right about the cans though, the little silver barrels are normally the imported stuff, some of the 440s are imported as well but there not as common

Never liked Heineken personally. Even the couple of times I’ve been to Amsterdam, it’s never done it for me. Given where it’s aimed and who it’s competing against, I’d pick Carlsberg over Fosters or Carling anyday. If you need something cold and wet on a hot day to quench a thirst, then it does the job. Not something I’d session or pick up to keep in the home fridge though. Feel like it gets a bit of a bad rep, but does a job as I say.

I’ve always been under the impression that the ‘Carlsberg Export’ that we get here, in the U.K., is just ‘our version’ of the regular ‘green canned and bottled’ version that’s available across Europe and elsewhere. The weak, 3.8 abv Carlsberg is unique to the U.K. market, right?

Dutch Heineken bottles do not say brewed in the UK and the Netherlands on the back. That beer you have there is without a shadow of a doubt the British version, and because of the Trade Descriptions Act they have to declare (somewhat ambiguously) the country of origin on the label.

Very interesting views. The green can Carlsberg is about the worst beer I've tried - once only. I've never seen you give a 4/10 until now but that's what I'd give it. I've never liked Heineken, and 5/10 would be my score too! Now, when I drank canned beer the two I liked were Holsten Pils (if I could get it) and Carlsberg Export! Since then I've switched to the bottled German law bottled beers which of course are in a different league. But I'm surprised you rated the Export so low. Maybe I had real Danish stuff back then! As an aside, a long time ago when I was a teenager there was a pub which sold Carlsberg dark lager, which I thought was nectar. Anyone shed light on this?

Your regular Carlsberg is 3.8% abv. Why do these breweries allow this? It's 5% originally. And in Canada, it's 5% as well. Better than Fosters or Carling. But none of this is as good as a proper German or Czech lager or a proper UK independent brewery local lager. As I recall you gave the Carlsberg Pilsner 6/10 in your original review 4 years ago and Carlsberg Export 8/10 only a year ago. Have they changed the brews?
