Btw, this next July 25th will be 126 yrs since the USA bombed PR and invaded the island through the town of Guanica, (July 25th, 1898) establishing a new colony and so far the only colony in the western hemisphere.

I don’t blame these people being tired. We literally have used their country to make money for us for a century and they’ve had to fight for what little they have and still won’t be given the benefits they deserve because some people are scared they’d be a blue state if they joined us and we make too much money off them to let them go. We’ve got to do right by these people-when we do not admit our mistakes and try to rectify them it breeds resentment and it only takes a few deeply hurt people to cause mass chaos and destruction (and sadly we often don’t care about our impact because “out of sight out of mind”). You’d think we’d learn from experience but never seem to.

I like the Macheteros. Let’s see who the real terrosits are when they took the island and enacted the Jones act. The radiated a civil rights leader in Albizu Campos They robbed the land of the people. Sugar barons low the family Briggs. How about the Cancer they put in the population and the same doctor being featured on the cover of Life Magazine. How about the bombardment of Vieques where the natives now are 60% of getting cancer and coconut forces won’t grow on parts of the island for a couple thousand years. What about the doctor who made women on PR not able to bare a child. What about the media control of the US on the island which unfortunately lake the island ignorant. All the above is still ongoing so what these folks do right or wrong is simply a little bit of a payback. What people don’t realize is if you give the island it’s shipping lanes and take the imperialistic Jones Act out the island can fend for itself and can make partnerships with other nations and companies without having to work everything through the US. There is a lot to say here that this show does not tell you. A whole lot!

The scene in this episode seems so fake. You have a bunch of people with shotguns and a cop who opens the truck door, and none of them fires at the officer. You have to remember a shotgun versus a .38 gun. There is no contest. It looks like a very weak scene. If you were the cop in such a situation and any of them decided to shoot you, you would be dead. You might be able to shoot one or two people, but in the end, you end up dead. It didn't seem very realistic.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with many of the comments people make regarding this organization's praise. I never heard of them before, but if they were killing innocent people, that is not the way to address their political issues. I am sorry, but that is not the way to do it. This was the 20th century and not the 1800s, which meant people were supposed to be much more civilized in addressing societal and political issues.
@ricprКүн бұрын
50 years ago, that was a very common sentiment on the island to want to be independent. It's on the heels of the death of Albizu Campos and the island is in economic dire straits. At that time, you would've had to been under a rock to live on the island and not have heard of the Macheteros. I'm not saying I agreed with their methods, but based on the entire history of the issue, it's a natural evolution to go from the overt methods of Campos, which was largely a peaceful diplomatic method (with obvious moments of violence) that yielded abject failure and imprisonment for Campos, to covert operations a la the Macheteros since they didn't have unlimited resources. From the Independentista perspective, you have an oppressive giant as a decades long adversary that has imprisoned your country and tried to paint poverty as progress. At some point you literally fight back if that's your perspective. You're where Albizu Campos was in the 1920s, where he thought that fighting for equality would yield righteous independence. It was an idealistic point of view. Everyone has their limits.

@ricprКүн бұрын
That's a good start, but I think that lobbying from investors will kill any chance for statehood. With the immigration off the island (brain drain) it's clear that too many people think a plane ticket is an easier fix. I'd go beyond what you state and add that the archaic Spanish inheritance laws. along with capital gains tax exemptions should be abolished. The inheritance laws are a huge roadblock to native islander's ability to manage estates and benefit from the real estate wave currently happening on the island. There are too many properties that lay abandoned because they're mired in a court process that only creates chaos due to the government taking away the right of an owner to declare a chosen heir for their own property. It's an absolute joke that there is a family hierarchy rule codified into law when it comes to real estate that overrules a will and allows even estranged relatives the right to lay claim to a portion of someone's estate merely because they're related. That assures that native islanders have extreme difficulty maintaining ownership of property. It's one of the reasons why my parents never purchased a home there.

I’m not comparing the two but let’s be real the shit my people went thru (blacks)…. We still ain’t bombed the country because THATS NOT GOING TO SOLVE ANYTHING it’s gonna make it worse if anything. That should be common sense tho. I agree sometimes violence is an answer when our government isn’t listen because we’ve went there before. Yet there’s a level u don’t exceed & that’s physical harm to other people & MURDER. They did all that & Still apart of the country….. stupid.

You know what. I’ve been reading these comments waiting to see one that made sense. Black folks have dealt with far worse and we ain’t bombing the country at all. This is wild. They wouldn’t be apart of America no more if I had a say. The only reason Puerto Rico is even a still thing is because America makes it so. They are Americans. That goes far for them. Far beyond any other island type like that. Them being American alone is currency. Blowing up the country? Over 130 bombings?? @@onewotldgovernmentonlywhen9044 the entire thing is propaganda meant to make America look like the good guys and glorify FBI agents for their participation in the squashing of a guerilla group fighting for Puerto Rican independence. These attacks were an attempt to protest American Military presence in Puerto Rico and bring attention to the colonial situation in Puerto Rico. Was there any attempt to discuss this on a governmental level? Any real consideration by the president to address the colonial situation in Puerto Rico? No, what we got was basically the declaration of these people as terrorists because these were treated as unfounded, unprovoked "terrorist" attacks on the innocent United States. It's the classic American tactic when dealing with rebel groups/opposition/guerilla warfare - call them terrorists and you can get the people to justify retaliation on behalf of the US. In turn, this just gets swept under the rug along with the rest of the US government's atrocities, people forget about it, and the status quo prevails. US interests get to continue their exploitation of resources and labor, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the propagandists keep the lower class fighting amongst each other instead of making any meaningful societal change.
