You know, it never stops impressing me how people are baffled that the serial sadistic serial killer was “the perfect gentleman”. If he was frothing at the mouth and sporting a set of hooves and fangs…..he wouldn’t be able to be a serial killer. He would get put down before he reached the psych ER , if he was as atrocious on the outside, as he was on the inside.

sociopaths are absolute narcissists who have no empathy or normal feelings. What we consider sadistic behavior empowers them and is the only experience they have that resembles pleasure. They are capable of being enormously charming and survive by learning how to manipulate people with complete dispassion. They can't really feel love and affection, but they can pretend to very well if it is required to get what they want. John Wayne Gacy was such a pillar of society he was never suspected even though there were a number of boys whose last known location was his house. He made enormous efforts to be the nicest guy in town. This guy was killing people in his house and burying them in his basement. They went in and never came out - and nobody could believe he could be a killer. Authorities dissuaded the local police from investigating him for a long time; even when his employee was found driving one of the victims' car. This is really prototypical. One thing that these people learn very early is that human beings are easily taken in by appearances.

I loved Peter Thomas and Bill Kurtis’ voice will stop me in my tracks not matter what he is narrating but Fred is great in these stories but his narrator for “World’s Most Evil Killers” is harsher and not one of my faves. However, I do like the style of his narration in this and his regular speech.

I'm not sure I've ever heard of a hunting shotgun that holds eight rounds. I wonder if that's how many rounds the guy had in his gun and pockets. Normally a hunting shotgun would hold one, two or maybe six rounds (shells) at most. Impressions of the five 'millionaires': Woman 1: Says 'um' before she gives any information; looks off or up as though trying to think of what she's supposed to say. As a teacher, I know that when people are trying to think of an answer - the correct answer - in an oral or written exam, they tend to look off to the side or up at the ceiling as though looking for the answer 'somewhere in their brain' and their eyes follow the part of the brain they are trying to retrieve the information from. Man 1 (curry sauce): Looks down and says 'um' before giving information in answer to the questions. (Would an Indian say 'curry sauce'? I would have expected something more specific with an Indian name, and also a diversity of products, because can you really make a million just selling one sauce?) I felt like he was searching his memory for his answers. Plus, we were told that the person became a millionaire by age 18. Sorry, but I have a hard time believing that an Indian became a millionaire at a young age in the UK selling curry sauce. Inventing something hi-tech, maybe. But peddling curry sauce? If he had said he owned a chain of take-out curries based on traditional Indian recipes, I'd have been more likely to believe him. I know too many hard-working Indians who are in food services in the UK to believe that they can become an millionaire from one product by age 18. Man 2 (jam man): Seems really happy to be talking about his product. Seems nervous when he crosses his arms in front of himself, but that could be youthful nerves. Smiles like he's still amazed at his success. His pauses don't seem to be for gathering thoughts or coming up with a story as much as him thinking with pleasure about his success or making jam with his granny. He had a barely audible 'er' at one point, but not to the extent as the first two. Man 3 (Chutney): sounds more like he's the director of a company (employee) than being an entrepreneur who created the company. He never pauses, never looks away, keeps steadily looking at the interviewer, and never blinks. It feels like it's too much, because usually we look at someone while that person is talking, and look back and forth to the person and away when we're talking (to check the person is still listening). I feel like he was trying to be convincing and overplayed it. Woman 2: Good eye contact. When she says 'a little village up there' her eyes go up as though she's mentally looking at a map. She probably rehearsed a real place to talk about so that she could answer naturally and without hesitation. I didn't see enough of her to judge. My first impression was that the first woman might be the millionaire entrepreneur, because women often say 'uh' before speaking, and to me she sounded like she actually could be running a business selling organic food, but I wondered about her 'grandmother's recipe' for natural foods would be. Was her granny a hippie? The only one who seemed proud of making a success - the young man with the jam - also seemed to have the kind of nervous smile that young people can have when they are talking about themselves. The rest weren't given enough time to make a real impression. As a teacher, my pick is the young man with the jam, because usually in a multiple-choice test made by non-experts, the answer is most frequently C (teachers learn to mix it up and not over-rely on C. By the way, the answer that teachers are LEAST likely to make the correct one is A, because writing false answers is hard work, and we don't want to waste all our hard work by putting the correct answer in the first place so you can just circle it and go on; we want you to read all of our proposed answers because we had to work to write them!). Plus he just seemed really happy thinking about his business and his grannie teaching him to make jam. Now I'll keep watching and find out I was wrong! :)
