It’s just crazy how Tracey finds it weird to praise and show affection to her son. It’s like they’re not her children, makes you think how was she treated when she was younger? Because we obviously copy our parents through nearly everything, especially parenting

So True to the Fact of how we were raised coming into our own parenting. And Yes We can change it, but it takes the awareness to be in place first. Some people Never See anything different then how they were raised though to be able to notice the difference of Fear based discipline and positive discipline. This is the closest thing to the Conscious Discipline Classes we took I've seen. It takes A lot of work to change how we react and to be assertive, and use positive perspective but it has been a huge blessing for us. Also were taught it takes your brain 2,000 times of doing something to break that habit and to be able to start using it as second nature so Anyone that gives it a try, stick to it, stay positive and you will be amazed! Point out what needs to be done instead of what's not (ex: hitting- hands to yourself, instead of stop or don't hit) getting on their level, making eye contact and physical contact are key. My hardest thing was giving praise to the things she already done every day properly, bc even us as adults don't give ourselves praise for the things we do everyday. In the states it's called Conscious Discipline.

Aaaawww that just melted my heart when I heard the child was premature!!! I was born 4 months early weighing 1 pound 6 ounces, I was back and for the hospital a lot and became blind as a result of retinopathy of prematurity. It’s tough when you see others aren’t making it, which is why the child is feeling so vulnerable and looking for attention. This is the most inspiring and relatable episode in the series, thank you so much for sharing it!!! I wish Elizabeth every success in her life 🤗🤗🤗💞😘

The majority of doctors in the UK don'r believe in ADHD here in the UK. Based on studies where children with this 'disorder' Have been put into an entirely different environment and disciplined differently . Their behaviour returns to a normal level without meds. It's shocking how many GP's would rather give pills when all that's really needed is a parenting course.

Right! He's not looking for attention, he's trying anything that will give him the endorphins that his brain needs. ADHD also explains his sleeping problems. I have ADHD (diagnosed as an adult) and have had sleeping problems as long as I can remember. It's not the child's fault.

Exactly! He's just stimming. Join him or leave the room. As long as he isnt hurting himself it's normal and necessary for all children but especially nuerodivergent kids. I have adhd too and if cant handle my daughter's stim i leave the room. If i can stay I'll dance, bark, howl or shake my shaker.

Tracey seems as though she’s never received praise herself. The couple should work on praising each other. Or rather, work on praising their own self and love yourself. We should all work on ourselves and learn to love ourselves so others (kids) can follow. I hope she knows she’s doing the best she can and she’s learning now to make adjustments in her life. She’s capable of changing. She’s just letting the frustration take over her. But that can all change. It’ll take time but it can. Respect to all mothers out there.

I think she has fasd too. Shes got the physical characteristics a bit, low frustration threshold , her impulse control is weak, and her inability to understand social norms is very clear. She does also have trauma and I think she plays it out on her children happily because it would probably release tension in her. I think her husband may also have fasd ,or a developmental disorder or an intellectual disorder, but hes got a willingness to learn and wants the best for his kids.

Elizabeth often picks up magazines. I’d love for mine to always want books. It might be bc she can read since she can’t hear. Get her a book on tantrums. I don’t think she knows how loud her screams are either. She can be shown that she’s not behaving like other children , which she probably wants to be more like.

When I was young we weren’t that rich and there were five us siblings. When my sister and I wanted toys my mom would tell us that the money for milk would be used to buy the toys and that we wouldn’t get milk for a week. We valued milk more coz it helped us go to sleep so we backed down from asking for toys. My parents would buy us toys like on holidays and it made us giving up those toys on those days worth it. Because of that we became money conscious and learned to spend wisely. We didn’t become spoiled but rather developed smart decision making. My parents also said that all five of us didn’t throw tantrums and were well-behaved kids but I think it was because we were afraid of making mom mad.

@sandcastles73
@sandcastles73 5 жыл бұрын
What is apparent watching this now, as apposed to when it was on TV, is that these kids are mostly suffering from anxiety. Their parent's raised voices, lack of understanding and knowledge around this is fueling the behavior. I am no expert, I don't even pretend to be, but I live with a child who is highly anxious and these behaviours here are all part and parcel of the uncontrollable and unregulated anxiety they are feeling. Putting adult feelings on children "you are pushing me" is wrong. A child does not do this for fun and kicks. Yelling, screaming and smacking them is showing them you are out of control, and when a child perceives their safe person to be out of control, they panic. Angus has far too much put on him for a 4yr old. The bribery isn't working because the child is highly anxious and the 'gifts" are a momentary bandaid which does little to cover the feelings of anxiety. Parent says "I can't take this" = I'm losing control. I'm am not safe. Therefore, you are not safe = child goes into fight or flight. The amygdala kicks in and causes chaos. Sometimes they don't know any better. It's what their parents did, after all. You can see Tracey is out of her depth with the praising because she herself probably didn't get any positive praise as a child/grown up. Her husband is constantly shouting at her too, so that won't help her own self esteem. He seems to get it, with the praising but isn't helping her understand.

1.Who doesn't realize that they don't praise their child? Children are people and need encouragement too. 2. I agree with people saying that miracle children shouldn't be spoiled. But please accommodate everyone as needed (help kids to teach them how to do things.). 3. I had a TV in my room. I don't recall watching it before bed until I got older. It was more a "the older children have it, so the younger ones should too". When I got older tvs helped distract me from nightly anxieties and invasive thoughts.

If any of my children EVER EVER EVER spit on me it would take an act of God to keep me from smacking their lips to the floor!!! For as horrible as all the screaming, cursing, tantrums, etc are, my opinion, spitting on someone is a special kind of disgust!!!

Her husband is the dam problem ,he has no backbone ,and is playing the nice parent ,it's crazy they are not working together ,he is literally passing the buck when it comes to discipline ,is why she is losing it and boiling over ,she is totally out of order ,but he should take a huge chunk of the blame ,as he is sitting back and doing nothing about his behaviour !!

.. children learn by example, I’m not a perfect mom and never will be, but if that’s one thing I learned, kids copy by example. Remain calm, discipline when necessary and talk to them. You have to teach them to act rationally, remember that their brains are still learning to regulate emotion but still have the same strong emotions adults feel.

It really is common sense. I know from my own experience if I was shouted at I would dig my heels in. As a parent myself I tried my best to be calm. I wasn't perfect all the time and if I was in the wrong I would apologise. My children describe me as firm but fair 😉

I was also born premature at 26 weeks, spent the first 3 months in the hospital and my parents were very careful with me until I was about 3, then I catch up with the other kids my age. I'm not deaf, but I do have some sight and brain issues that I recently found out. Other than that I'm completely normal. I hope things turned out okay for elizabeth and her parents.

But my son is here and a wonderful miracle but he also is a child in this world that needs to know parent from friend . And I’ll be gentle with my child and my deep love will never change maybe the guilt will never go away but he’s here now and doing amazing so you gotta somehow let some of thag guilt go because it’s not way it’s your fault your child was born early

I thought this too. It looks like she's getting very little communication from her mum and dad. A lot of the time they're talking to her when they're not face to face, so Elizabeth can't understand! I bet more education on how deaf people experience the world would have helped them immensely.

I see Children controlling parents, and hurting them and they do nothing. The kids then hurt the other kids . How on earth did this get like this. They will abuse other people im sure. Like their wife , or husband, teachers and others when they grow up.The younger one's in the home will abuse also. This is terrifying . What will they do to mom when they are 15 years old and up?

Why take your child to a restaurant and upset everyone else’s dinner? How selfish is that? Keep your unruly children to yourself. I had a premature baby too, born at 29 weeks....I didn’t allow him to become a little monster. He’s 25 yrs old now. I understand she’s deaf, but that’s no excuse to raise a person who will suffer when she’s older!

In the previous episode Cameron Dad said when he was at the bank “a member of the public” said “I wonder where he gets that.” upon hearing the younger brother cursing. Offended, his dad responded that he got it from his 5 year old elder brother. Yet we hear their mother yelling and using the f-bomb in nearly every scene with the kids! 🤔🤨🙄

How good is her sign language though? And can she even be evaluated fully for the potential brain impairment? Because a child who can not communicate effectively can also act out. I am not at all saying that is it lol Obviously they say they spoil her and so they do but perhaps in time other factors will also come out

I do not like Paula. Shes clearly overwhelmed, but she is very hurtful. Shes not cursing at him but shes still calling him names.and going on and on and on about how he makes her feel awful after hes stopped. Its about her. Not him at all. I dont understand why people think just because your not yelling suddenly your not cruel or causing more problems.

Cultural differences, how you speak to a child and link tone of voice is very important. Can't swear at a child not expecting one day they won't repeat. Behaviour didn't come in 1 day. So its gonna take time.
