@@knowthyself_7 I have a lot of nostalgia for this, and I love the progressive beat, but so many of the lyrics are pseudo-intellectual schoolboy ramblings. I might be more inclined to forgive him had Canibus not been nearly THIRTY when Rip the Jacker came out. It reminds me of when I was a dorky high school loner in my underground rap/philosophy phase writing "rap lyrics" (that I would never dare verbalize) with shitty wordplay like "ya'll rap better than me? ay man, ya'll can't." GET IT? Aymanyall Cant--Immanuel Kant?! I'm SO talented and smart, PLEASE go out with me!!! Anyway, flashback over, let's criticize some specific bars... "One should not assume the philosophy of David Hume is nothing more than a subjective conclusion" - What is that even supposed to mean? You could say that about the philosophy of any philosopher. Totally meaningless. You can go ahead and read the annotation on Genius, as well as the several comments of discussion that follow it (I certainly did), but I think you could read meaning into this statement if you replaced David Hume with any other philosopher, since nearly all of them have given some treatment of assumptions, subjectivity and conclusions. "From an existentialist's view, I'm a better rapper than you" - From the view of WHAT existentialist? Nietzsche? Sartre? Kierkegaard? Camus? Were the existentialists particularly prized for their insight on rap music? Sartre died in 1980. Canibus was only 5 or 6 years old at this point. Again, you could plug in "from a Platonist's view" or "from an Aristotelian's view" and still wrangle meaning from it due to the vagueness of such a statement. "The juxtaposition of Canibus' position/The precision of something no other has written" - ... the juxtaposition of his position...? With what exactly? Oh, of course: the precision! Canibus' uncanny precision. The precision of... something (a notoriously precise thing). Something no one else has written! Well, that's just simply false. I can point to any number of rappers who are more precise and descriptive in their lyrics! Honestly, most rappers are! But I get it. Really, I do. These lyrics aren't chosen for their meaning or imagery as much as they are for how they sound when strung together. But even in that regard, I think something like Violent by Design-era Jedi Mind Tricks is far superior. Okay, giant tl;dr rant over...
