Eventually the standard was to assure safety & regulation. Surprising sometimes that humanity survived as well as it has.. I worked at a major amusement park in Missouri, USA, from 1975-77. I was there when an accident happened on a ride that killed some people. It is amazing how the park immediately went into defense mode to protect themselves. They claimed it was checked every morning and found to be safe. But their “checking” consisted of starting it up and riding it across the park. It was a lie. They got a huge roller coaster in 1976 and the checks they did on it were about the same. Fortunately they never had a big disaster on it like this, but that is a matter of luck. Many times people on their coaster died during the ride. I saw them taken off and they were white as a sheet. Clearly they were dead. But they put the body in an ambulance and later the news reports were that they died on the way to the hospital. That way it didn’t look so bad on the park.

@SadisticSenpai612 жыл бұрын
I mean, I'm not surprised. It's actually fairly normal for these kinds of incidents. Even disasters with much bigger death tolls regularly see those responsible acquitted. It's kinda insane just how much of a joke the legal systems in first world nations can be when the wealthy and well-connected are on trial for a disaster that killed or injured mostly poor people. It's not just in the UK or the US either. It's a reoccurring theme across Europe and former British colonies as well (such as Canada and Australia). I really makes me wonder what's so great about "Western Democracy" when our legal systems have repeatedly shown that the lives of poor people don't matter and the wealthy almost always get away with their nonsense - usually in the interest of "saving money." If the wealthy ever do face any kind of legal penalties, it's usually some paltry fine that they can pay with their pocket change. Not that non-"Western Democracies" are any better. They tend to either pretend nothing happened or put all the blame on some poor person who was unfortunate enough to be too low-ranked in the chain of command to have any actual power while those that actually made the decisions slap each other on the back for successfully blaming someone else.

one time a tall coaster malfunctioned and stopped on its way up. Patrons had to make an emergency escape, putting themselves on a flight of stairs next to the coaster car pulling mechanism. This is easier said than done - you're sitting in a car that's inclined at a fairly steep angle AND you're 50 meters up. The stairs aren't most comfortable either and there are 30 people scared shitless around you. Definitely not a pleasant experience, even if nobody got injured in this.

Its tragic that this event happened. But it also shows how safe modern coasters are. The fact that the largest desth toll was 5 is insane when you factor how tall new coasters are plus how many people it can hold. Of course all these new safety features were learned from terrible accidents that involved deaths. Things like backup lock outs for chain lifts and inspections and test runs all have been invented due to deaths and injuries.
@alaeriia01 Жыл бұрын
In order to have a death toll higher than four, you would typically need a catastrophic structural failure, as most coaster cars hold four people. I'm also surprised the record is 5, as I can think of a few flat ride incidents where there have been double digits of casualties; interestingly, these are almost always a Chinese knockoff of a Zamperla ride operating at a funfair.
@mariekekito39985 ай бұрын
I was surprised too. For exactly the same reasoning. It really puts into perspective how safe modern rides are indeed.

This channel is going to be big no doubt in my mind! This is quite literally real horror, at least to me. It’s the human emotions and fears and the reality of what this awful events were like for the victims and rescuers or observers. It also reveals the horror of what leads to some of this awful events by revealing the human Evils that were the cause. I guess what I’m trying to say is to me the roller coaster crashing in itself isn’t the most horrifying thing it’s the real witness recounting of what actually happened and the horror and fear in the people there as they experienced it that is truly horrifying. This channel is so interesting snd genuinely makes me feel uneasy from the stories they tell but I love it. Whoever is behind this, all the people the writers researchers and narrator or if it’s all one person or many, you have my admiration. I might also add I have adhd and usually documentary/informative longer videos are hard for me to watch or follow along but these videos keep me focused and wanting to know more. The visuals are beautiful and the layout and process of giving information is amazing. The narrator is amazing as well, such a soothing voice and doesn’t sound like a robot but a human. The roller coaster crash in 1930 in Omaha at Krug Park has to be a close second. 4 people died, and the resulting lawsuits closed the park by 1934.

Hi new subscriber here! I wasn't born until 1991 but even before 1972 and since I've been born there has been many Rollercoaster tragedies. I pray every time that I get on one for me and everyone else on the ride and other rides have a safe ride because this is absolutely horrific. I am so so sorry for the victims and their families. This is beyond heartbreaking. I cannot imagine the fear before they passed away. Omgggggggg

I would love it if this narrator would start narrating some audiobooks. I love list new ghost stories being read aloud in somebody’s calm, soothing voice when I’m trying to fall asleep and a lot of folks do too. This woman would be amazing at that

LONG COMMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS STORY, SO DONT READ IF YOU DISLIKE LONG ONES. Every time i hear this story i think that it could have easily been me, killed on that ride.! The year & a half, prior to the accident, my boyfriend & I had travelled over 300 miles down from Newcastle Upon Tyne to go & live in London. We both had jobs to go to & we lived in Fulham Broadway. We didnt start going to Battersea Park Amusement Park Until about 5 weeks before this fatal accident. My Boyfriend & I just fell in love with the Park & in particular the Big Dipper ride. We'd often stay on the ride, paying for the next one, then the next one, sometimes going round 4 or 5 times in succession. We had planned to go to the park on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend & we couldn't wait! Plus we both got paid on the friday , day before & planned To have a blast on the Dipper. Cant tell you what a great ride it was! It looked nothing special just looking at it from outside, But it seemed to speed so fast round its circuit. There was this bit in the middle which was indeed a covered over bit. The track was enclosed by corrugated metal, & honestly it looked as shoddy as anything but as you descended from a steep drop into the covered bit, the noise was tremendous! The speed was intense & it was As black as midnight! Everyone always screamed, through this covered tunnel The memory of the excitement, Ive never forgotten! Anyway on the Friday afternoon my Boss at the London Electricity Board, in Fulham, asked me a huge favour! Could i PLEASE work next day, Saturday as everyone available had taken the day off for part of the Bank Holiday wk/end. He was such a brilliant Boss & he said hed normally cover the day with one other employer but she had been ill, no one else to cover & all my collegues had kids etc & were happy to have the holiday wk/end as a family. As i was the only one without kids Etc he prayed id see his predicament... I did... John, my guy was Sooo upset that i had to work, even though my lovely old Boss had rewarded me with 2 extra days in lieu & double wages for the day. That Saturday dragged! No one came in to the showroom, & all i could think about was rides on the Big Dipper, Hot Dogs, Candy Floss, Cheeseburgers & Buttery Chips Sigh.....! I even rang John & suggested he go on his own & enjoy the day & not be fed up in our flat, but he wouldnt go without me. My Boss kept apologising all day knowing how much John & I had wanted to be at Battersea Park & what a wasted day as customers were out having fun.. Then he said hed close up early & we could get ourselves off to the Park. Suddenly the door burst open & John came running in to the showroom, gabbling at high speed screeching, alarmed, crying.. My Boss Mr Harris & I tried to calm him, we were so frightened as to what could have happened! He had gone out for a walk & sat outside in the back garden of our local pub. Suddenly there was shouting & uproar & the Bar manager was telling all his customers a terrible accident had just happened at Battersea Park & the Dipper had malfunctioned & some kids were dead. He was hysterical as his 4 kids were there. ( they were ok though) Everyone scattered, John ran for me... we were gutted! There was such an atmosphere for that whole weekend & all John & I could think of was, it could have been us! We just sat staring, at each other or blankly at nothing. When something like this happens & that you could have so easily been a victim, its very hard to describe! I often think we were meant to survive that day! We werent meant to go & fate or luck or divine intervention stopped us. We were nuts about that ride! We knew we'd be on it all day! Our Pockets full of wages, & stuffing our faces, riding the Dipper dawn till dusk AND WE KNEW WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THAT RIDE THAT DAY! That was the most terrifying of all, to know that! Yet something stopped us from going because it wasnt our time then.. sobering thought. Im now 71yrs have had a brilliant life, successful career, 2 beautiful daughters, 2 grandsons Im still active, full of beans, reasonably kept my looks & figure, im very social, many hobbies, my career was in mental health & ive hopefully helped many wounded souls survive. I do the same, albeit retired now but as a volunteer & although i'll never know but i may have helped many people because i didnt die in that Big Dipper crash.. How can we know?? But BECAUSE we survived, we knew we couldnt waste our lives doing nothing! John became my husband, trained to be a Teacher & ended by working with Disturbed Youngsters & creating youth environments, new schemes & developing new teaching methods Were still together! Weve been extraordinarily happy & whenever we had the odd rough patch, and we did, lol 🤣 Without either of us saying Anything, there'd be a moment when wed both simultaneously Stare intensely at each other & wed think of the Big Dipper Ride Then the tension immediately released & we'd be fine & dandy Sorry its been a long comment but, do you know ? Ive never ever written our experience down till now! How strange.. hmm Thank you for your vids, ive subbed today to yr channel too If anyone got this far, well thank you for reading it. My advice? Live your life thoroughly, dont waste a moment Because when its NOT your time to go... what ever you do, when the time comes you wont have regretted or wasted a thing. Peace, Love & Harmony to All 🇬🇧👧

It's so refreshing to listen to a narration without uptalk and fry voice. Such a nice and soothing voice. Very well scripted too. Thank God this channel has only 5 videos, otherwise this would have been a long long night for me. Looking forward for the next upload.

Yes! I hate how annoying most KZbinrs voices are. If I find one that's not obnoxious and over dramatic I subscribe and keep it close

One of the first jobs I had was at an amusement park attached to the most popular zoo in our state. After seeing just how many parts of rides were broken and constantly mismanaged, I quit. I tend to avoid rides and amusement parks now. Low end employees run the rides and are given almost no training at all, when in reality they should be given thorough safety and emergency response training to prevent dangerous situations first so that emergency intervention is minimized from day one. This kind of job is treated as a shit job at the very bottom, and it often is a terrible job most people don't want to do. But this does not mean it should be taken so casually. We seem to be in a crisis where shit jobs are conflated with meaningless jobs that should only be given to the lowest people in society and treated unbelievably casually.

Yes, that's why I said it was the "deadliest roller coaster disaster of all time". I'm sure there have been worse incidents in terms of loss of life on other types of rides.
