Dan, your drawing technique is exactly the same has a photo realistic tattoo artist! Your ability NOT to move from one area until it is totally rendered is one of the hardest part of tattooing photo realisum to master! Considering that we use a carbon stencil has a guide, which not only gives us the shape and profile of the shades, it is important not to move forward too quickly, so that the stencil doesn't become lost from wiping away the excess ink off the skin. Then it is a matter of building up the different shades of the correct value and shape, with one VERY different factor to consider. Due to NOT being able to see the light shades of a tattoo because of the blood present from the skin, they tend to appear a browny red colour. It is only your experience from seeing healed black and grey tattoo that allows you to achieve the correct shading once you have gained enough experience over time. Unfortunately when it comes to tattooing, rubbers don't seem to work if you shade an area to dark! Lol.😆 Thanks for your FANTASTIC videos mate, they are a MASSIVE help 👍. All the best, Neil.

You have such a delicate touch with the pencil yet you don't overwork the drawing. It' so realistic it looks like you could remove the subject's eye glasses and set them aside if you wanted to. I like your music choice, too. Watching you draw is a marvel, like watching the starts come out at twilight. Thank you for the real time demonstration.

@EchoYoutube2 жыл бұрын
a good tip for anyone struggling with the process, if you feel like its getting boring.. your mind and feelings aren't truly being placed into the drawing, and it will come short. You should almost place every line and mark, like an etching.. always lining it up to other parts, building off each other. Most drawings are like trees, they stem out from the seed... then grow and develop over time based on the environment. From a drawing perspective, your seed is the idea in your mind. The seed doesn't know exactly what its going to look like as it grows, but it has an idea and develops based off that.. that's why trees(aka drawings) can be somewhat consistent.. never a perfect replica, but a perfectly imperfect copy.

absolutely exquisite ! Dan, do you not struggle with losing the exact spot that you are drawing on your reference? I mean we are switching back and forth between drawing and reference with our eyes. And i am finding it hard to always find where i am on the ref. Also the constant refocusing of the eyes makes me nauseas sometimes, and always very tired. ... or is this an age problem?(I'm 50 and just started 6months ago). Lastly: would you know a good source for reference pictures? So far I work from my smartphone display, which is tiny really, and the photoes often minor quality). ( I cannot really research well for myself, since I have no computer, just a smartphone).

can you use a mechanical pencil for realistic drawing
@emanuelebarrovecchio58146 жыл бұрын
Your technique is basically drawing with textures and is awsome cuz textures is the most time consuming and difficult thing to do but for me too much texture tends to blend with other parts of the drawing itself. Like the eyebrow of the eye blended with the texture of the skin so well that the "individual hair" was actually lost and you can't distinguish the hair from the skin texture
@emanuelebarrovecchio58146 жыл бұрын
At least from the zoomed view. Maybe from the distance of by darkening the hair texture the result is better
@emanuelebarrovecchio58146 жыл бұрын
Also if you put your hand in some parts of the drawing wich is textured the oils of your hands will blend the texture in one solid shade so all the work in the sections would be wasted. You need to start from a point and go on. Like from left to right for all the drawing. I think that you need to use a fixative at the end of the drawing and use darker tones so the image will pop more ;)

You are an amazing artist!!! Btw is the grid method a common way to draw? I'm quite new to art and I usually estimate the position and proportions without guidelines. Is this a bad habit? The drawings come out pretty accurate (such as realism, but not hyper realistic and there are a ton of details) if they are not very complex. Thanks to anyone who helps.
