Estoy impresionada! Your Spanish is so good already! I’m a native Spanish speaker and I learned English when my family immigrated to the US when I was a child. Language learning is so easy as a kid. Even tho I’m a native Spanish speaker, I definitely lose fluency when I’m not speaking it regularly. I want to teach my kids Spanish, so I want to try the thing where I try to fully speak Spanish 100% of the time in my household and have my partner speak English. Who knows what will really happen, I want to try lots of things but probably won’t have capacity to.

Oooo! Look at you! Currently learning Vietnamese. One thing I do when I'm learning to speak at B2 is I also listen to content that has native speakers talking/singing that way I can get used to the speed of speech and it's easier to pick up shorter ways of saying things.

I don't know if I would say I'm trying to learn Spanish, I really don't put much time and effort into it. What I have been doing though is that whenever I watch a show or a movie, I watch it dubbed in Spanish. I have enough of a background to know what's going on and I pick things up along the way. So impressed! I am Salvadoran born, grew up in Canada, currently living in the states (oh the identity confusion). I feel super lucky and blessed that I learned Spanish as a child and kept it up. In Canada I really only used it at home and with extended family and church. Moving to the states I use it soooo much more and it is incredible to see how much good I can do by just being able to communicate with people in the language they feel most comfortable with. Your pronunciation was great! I have so much respect for people who learn a new language as adults. I definitely understood you and am excited to watch more of your stories en español!

Hey, love the video. Just wanted to suggest that you use the word "Morena" instead of "negra" to identify/describe yourself. There's people that will use the word "negra" too loosely to refer to you and the black community. Negra means N** I'm Afro-Latina with albinism. In the Afro-Latin community we are trying to fight the never-ending disease of racism. 💜
@courtr15883 жыл бұрын
There are still many Black populations all over Latin/Central/South Am & Spain who prefer the word negro/a because moreno/a encapsulates basically everyone who ain't white. Many notable figures like Celia Cruz, Marta Salgado, Paula Marcela Moreno Zapata, Victoria Santa Cruz, Amara La Negra, Jennifer Parker (it goes on) have talked about being negra and done activism concerning gente negra. Of course every person thinks differently and there is no wrong opinion for how one wants to regard themselves. My comment is just to give another perspective because I wouldn't have been able to find the homies in online groups/spaces or read amazing books written by Black Latina & Spanish women if I wasn't using the word negra to identify myself and to search for them. :s
@hallease3 жыл бұрын
Interesting! It seems that there's a mixture of identity questions that comes up within the Afro-latina population just as much as the African American population in the US. IE being Black vs being African American.

I write all of that to say that that's why I started learning Spanish for what will be about 6 years ago in a few months. Now I'm pretty good at it but like any language (even our native one) there's always room to grow. Tuve un día muy relajante. I have spent the last decade of my life with the bunch of people that you are unknowingly sliding: Interpreters. See, the difference between an interpreter and a translator is that translators are for the written word, where as Interpreters speak or sign a language.
