Realistic Monaco for Grand Prix 2

"Like riding a bicycle around your living room". This quote about the Monaco Grand Prix Circuit from Nelson Piquet inspired Michael82 @Ratimiaou to create this masterpiece. It's the Monaco for GP2 that I wanted in the 90s, instead of the wide, smooth and boring versions we had back then. This is an absolute must have for every GP2 fan.
Very easy to install, just run GP2 Track DAT File Size Limit Extender with DOSBox and copy/replace the track files mentioned in the txt-file that comes with the track. Download here:

I prefer the more detailed version for immersion but I understand what you mean. Sometimes less is more. I think a good comparison was IndyCar Racing 1 versus Microprose F1 Grand Prix. ICR had a ton of bitmaps everywhere and with poor resolution it just made your head hurt, whereas F1GP was less detailed, much more crispy and clear.

Gotta love that V10 powered 98T (I make fun of it, but I find it pretty impressive that a 1995 game on DOS managed to have somewhat realistic engine sounds even if it can only make V10 sounds)

I like that you nearly dropped it coming out of Casino down to Mirabeau, you see it on the actual cars of the era all the time.

Yeah it's very realistic, I was astounded that they managed to model it so well. Have to be really careful with the line and the throttle, otherwise the rear kicks real bad.

Yeah, it's just the sheer amount of detail that is whizzing by that makes a completely different feeling. Also the very narrow track helps :D

@@TedMeat I'll give you a couple of years (yes, years, because schedule is so short, these days!) To ponder about doing another 100% ace season, but with "modern" modded tracks. Modern Monaco, Imola, Montreal, Budapest, Spa, Monza...Zandvoort, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, etc... And a modern carset, why not? Meet Future Bang, racing against Audi, Red Bull-Ford and Andretti-Cadillac in 2026!

Marina sure looks more claustrophobic, as well as some turns. Even the barriers looks higher? Or, cars lower..? Very nice mod for the track I have driven the most in GP2.

Looking at the original footage from the 86 GP the walls seem to be mostly in correct height, although not all the walls were that high. But yeah they are higher than in the original version, I don't think the cars are lower.

Nice video Ted! A lot of the original tracks were crap, but thanks to the modding community the quality of the tracks is insane these days. The Hungaroring for example was horrible in it's original form with the idiot kerbs. You implanted the 80's cockpit too, nice addition. Can I suggest you put another engine sound? There are great sounds to be found wich will make these videos complete. Have fun!!

Thank you :) And you're absolutely right about the engine sounds. I now have a terrible itch to do '86 season in GP2 and if (and when) I'll do it I'll definitely try out a custom engine sound. You have any good suggestions?

They are all from Michael82, he can do more than just make fantastic tracks. -Brabham BMW 1983 -Cosworth V8 '92/'93 -Ford V8 Cosworth 1990 -Renault RS10 1979 -Renault RE30B 1982 -Renault RE60 1985 They're not all turbo charged engines, but all of these engines have a fantastic sound wich in my opinion add so much extra to the experience in these oldskool mods. So try them out and pick one to your likings. I'm looking forward to your '86 season!

Wow. Really tight. Much more realistic. As an aside - I noticed you used the Lotus Turbo car from 1986, and you mentioned it had less grip, but did the mod also simulate things like the turbo lag for the engine?

Doubt it would, since the original game wasn't built for the turbo era.

Yeah as Nico said it's not really possible to have turbo lag in GP2, would need to re-program somehow. You really can't fake it with engine mapping either because the GP2 cars have quite a lot (too much) of torgue even on low revs.

Hello Ted. I watch all of your videos and I race 100% distances at maximum difficulty in GP2 with wheel and pedals also. I have raced several 100% distance races at this track and I am struggling with setup. What do you like to do in terms of roll-bars / springs / dampers for this track? I notice that you need a very fast turn-in at the station hairpin and the slow chicane at the exit of the tunnel- I stiffened the car and it helps here, but the softer the car is I am able to have it more forgiving for some of the places where the car likes to lose stability. Also - have you ever been able to catch cars exiting the tunnel and pass braking into the chicane? No matter how hard I try, they always get a better exit and acceleration out of portier compared to me. I do all of my passing in braking going into rascasse.. I am almost always better in braking here as it is curved and you have to be gentle.

Hello Ted, very nice video again, line all your Friedrich Bang videos=) I have a question, not for this video or game, it is about grand prix 3! I have installed the season 2000 add-on, i really like it! And i am running the game with GPxPatch, for the autosave function and the nice graphic details. But there's a problem for me, i have done hundreds of races with different cars and teams, and the tecnical failures on! But i never had any tecnical problem or malfunction of the car, and so if i dont make a mistake i never retire from the race. I know thats good=) but i like to drive with equal conditions like my rivals! I dont know who can help me, is there any setting to made in GPxPatch?? Thanks for your help=))

Hmm, sounds interesting. I don't think GPxPatch has any influence on mechanical failures. If the failures are on in game you should get some. Although if you do short races it's not as probable. Perhaps you can ask this at the forums at grandprixgames.org? I haven't played the 2000 add-on so perhaps there's a bug that prevents them from happening?

Yes but you still need DOSBox to run the game. Don't remember how to use a CD with DOSBox but it should be in the instructions 🤔
