you should do a Do and Don't on how one should hold a pencil correctly. Cause you obviously Don't.
@annabluu21788 жыл бұрын
its common sense on how to hold a pencil. you can hold it however as long as it gets the job done
@Kushala168 жыл бұрын
DaiBae RBLX A professional artist who understands technique would tell you that the way one holds a pencil changes the dynamic of your line work and affects the way you lay out a drawing efficiently. So no, it's not common sense. If you learn to hold a pencil correctly when drawing you would be surprised at the difference it makes. It's like a samurai who was raised to hold his sword wrong. He may be skilled at fighting, but his techniques are handicapped by the way his hands maneuver the blade. Imagine if he held his sword correctly.
@annabluu21788 жыл бұрын
actually, a person can figure out really easily how to hold a pencil by the way they want to draw a line. there's no dos and donts when it comes to holding a pencil, babe. it depends on what technique you want to do, because the way you hold a pencil is preference.

MakIsOdd yeah but like I've been professionally diagnosed with OCD and honestly not getting the proportions right makes me feel the need to redraw the same things over and over and it's horrible I don't think it's as bad with digital art bc it's a lot easier to undo stuff but with my pencil drawings there's a lot of lines that I repeatedly tried to erase and just kinda stayed there and it pisses me off :T I get the whole thing about how OCD has become almost a "joke" mental illness, which sucks ass and *is* offensive, but just because someone claims to have it without going into specifics doesn't mean that they aren't diagnosed and are trying to belittle it… (sorry for the rant but I get touchy about that kind of stuff)

Jayy Hunter you should try using a q-tip they work just as well as blending stumps just a little bit awkward to hold, if you don't have a q-tip use pinched/rolled up paper, these are better so you don't get the oils on your fingers on your drawing and end up with something to smudged

So the charcoal pencil helps to get that darker depth? I'm always afraid to use something that dark. I want to get more bold though. I can create something a few steps below what you have on the right, but I want to get to what you did here. Sounds like you majored as an art student or a very well self-taught artist?
@earlgreymilktae8 жыл бұрын
You can use a charcoal pencil and practice with a more simpler drawing and try shading with the charcoal pencil to see how you like it? :) I think it ps always nice to try and experiment with new things, especially in art. Trying new art styles is always hard and challenging for me, but it's great when you've mastered or learned a lot with that art style! So I suppose trying new art materials would be sort of the same thing. Plus, you got nothing to lose, so you might as well just try it, you never know, it might be a crucial thing in all your future drawings that you make!

well, the left side didn't have as much effort as the right and you need to put equal effort into both sides of the drawing if you wanna do a comparison. you lightly sketched on the right side, but for the left side, you need to be putting more pressure on the pencil tip while drawing.

Haha, no. Have a look at this photo. Measure Angelina Jolie's left eye from medial to lateral canthus. Then use it as a reference from the bottom of Angelina's left eye and you will see that it will come to just about the tip of the nose. In your art work, measuring the left eye from medial to lateral canthus and using it as a yard stick from the bottom of the left eye. Your nose stretches down even further hence its proportion is out of wack. If you are going to teach portraiture online, at least do a good job before you embarrass yourself when someone calls you out on it blogs-images.forbes.com/anthonydemarco/files/2015/12/citrine-necklace-18x-24-1200x1600.jpg

Honestly I remember in kindergarten when our art teacher was like drawing eyes like on the left and I thought she was like the best artist ever.

I have a question= Every time I draw I start by drawing the face shape but then when I draw the eyes and everything else its out of proportion. So if I start by drawing the eyes and everything first, when I try to draw the face shape, I cant get it right. Plz help I want to surprise my BFF with a pic of all of her friends but I cant get it rite

there's always portrait tracing to consider. you trace the lines where the shadows are the deepest and work with the blender/tortillion stick - plus tracing photographs of faces will attribute to your "muscle memory" and subconsciously will help you with this as time goes on

I wouldn't say never use your fingers on graphite. It's fine sometimes, but the oil from your fingers will leave a mark lol. I think paper towels/tissues or tortillions/stumps are better, tbh.
@estersarkisova72328 жыл бұрын
Notmatt haha I know it's weird but art have rules too sometimes teachers don't even exept that you have your own style just because it's not how their rules are.

Another thing you want to be mindful of is the lips and the philtrum above the lips. The lips generally have an S-shaped curve at the commissure and the part where the upper and lower lips are actually not straight lines but tend to have a bow shaped curve. It is more pronounced in women than men

i have a tip for face proportions: use you own face as a reference! i've noticed on my own face threat the corners of my eyes match the top part where my ears meet my face and that seriously helped my proportions.

You really should never smudge or blend to achieve different values, it creates muddy, monotone, and flat looking drawings. Try altering the lead type of your pencil instead, such as 2B, 6B, etc. and avoid mixing charcoal with graphite. Looks like you're off to a great start though!
