I know in one of your interview videos you had mentioned how people like us think you artists are so gifted and are born with it. Well I understand that it takes a lot of hard work too, but Emily you are both! You are a natural born artist and of course you work meticulously on your art to make it look stupendously awesome. I am registered in your Watercolor Mastery courses, and do find it helpful but it is sometimes so intimidating as you can draw soooooo well and the paintings looks spectacular. I have had trouble drawing the initial sketching (I hate tracing!) and by the time I’m done with the painting, it is so off! Ugh! So you are an amazing teacher and indeed I love your courses, just don’t keep up with it as I should and of course that matters too, I guess. But please do keep inspiring and keep those wonderful tutorials coming. We desparados thrive on it!! 😂 thanks for a new kind of medium I can dip my hands into!!😊

If you want to get better at drawing do try doing it upside down like Emily did. I have tried it a couple of times and it is crazy how well the sketches turned out! I can draw fairly well right side up but I’m totally sold on the upside down method!

What a great idea to draw something upside down. I have done that like in a specific area before, but never a whole drawing but you know what I may try that.

Hullo Emily, thank you for sharing this wonderful portrait of your husband! I have used alcohol markers for years now and I have never used them for finished pieces unless they are used just for an underpainting or base coat for pencils. I have used them for artwork that will be photographed and permanence is not required. I know others make prints from their marker art. I do like them for discovering shading or for quick color studies. I like how they work so well when setting up for pastels, blocking in the shapes and creating small quick studies so I have an idea going forward so I am not wasting my soft pastels, I have used watercolor the same way, but markers dry so much faster! Thank you.

A mirror also works. The more ways you can use to check, the better. I also sometimes take a photograph. I’m often surprised how different a photo of my art looks from the original!

Amazing work as always 😊 I’ve been experimenting with markers and like my watercolour, I’m still rather heavy handed 😂 I did read recently that using watercolour paper with markers may dry out your markers quicker because the paper is so absorbent, so draws ink out of the markers much more quickly than using other papers. Perhaps that’s what happened to your copics?
