Until recently I never gave watercolor much credit - I never looked around or really paid attention to the artwork itself - the artwork right in front of me every day. Of course, I know differently now, with the hundreds of years of art, deco, illustration and more that have been made worldwide. It is NOT a child's medium, but a true artist's. I loved watching you paint this delicate rose and I am amazed at the detail and color. A single rose - a piece of art by itself! I will be painting this too - many times I am sure, as I follow my quest to learning this art form. I love your work, Maria!

I was havig nightmares and night terrors and I just happened upon this video. I’m a novice / just for fun artist, but really, I watched the whole video, I feel okay now to go to sleep. The music combined with your painting was lovely and just what I needed. Not to say “you’re boring enough to put anybody to sleep” LOL I mean it was comforting and breathtangly beautiful how subtly you blended the colors, and it made me think “If I ever get a chance to be God and create a world, I’ll ask her to paint the flowers for us.” - and then I thought “maybe if people are honestly really still doing this kind of thing the world can’t possibly be as bad off as I think it is.” And THAT is what is allowing me to go to sleep. Thanks much!

After watching a couple of your videos, I decided to try Holbein and was instantly aware of the difference between a pro paint and hobby grade. I have delegated my others to sketching and practice paints. I find Holbein takes correction very well. My only suggestion is to use them with 100% cotton paper for the best painting experience possible. (And Holbein Pastels set of 12 has exciting colors to work with, especially for flowers or children's paintings.) 🎉Happy painting🎉

I am a portrait painter in oils. My wife has always wanted me to do flowers and I didn't want to. THIS, however, using watercolor instead of oils, is a wonderful alternative; it's faster in its execution and as realistic as I like to paint my portraits. Thank you for these videos! I saw the photo of the rose at the beginning, however, as an observer, I'd like to see the photo alongside of your work so I can see how you're interpreting each element. Wonderful work!! Hi, I don't use these brushes anymore, I use now "Black Velvet" by Silver Brush, "Versatil" by Escoda and "VelvetTouch" by princeton but in this older video I was using: Round brushes: Round 1 (Utrecht), Quill 0 (Raphael), Angular 1/2 (Utrecht)

Thank you for beautiful rose painting with music. Delicate pink and yellow rose's are known to me as "Peace" roses. (There are some other names for similar varieties now) That's what my first living rose plant was, many years ago. I would thereafter plant one wherever I lived. You painted it just right!

I don't have any Holbien watercolors, but I do have Daniel Smith. Wouldn't they work the same? I do know that the same name of colors dont always run the same in other brands, but are very similar. It is okay to use my Daniel Smith as a substitute for your Holdien? Thank you so much for your answer, and thank you for this gorgeous painting you've shared with everyone. I've enjoyed watching your tutorial very much! I also enjoy all of your paintings.Looking forward to watching more of your tutorial. I've wondered if you've ever painted a peony? They are such an exquisite flower, & I've seen so many beautiful paintings of them I really want to try them. I love how so many artist have been doing very large paintings of flowers. It's a trend I absolutely love! Many have painted them on a living, bedroom, or bathroom wall. I just love the sizes of them, you can get lost in the beauty of the flower. Hi Gail🌸☺️When following my tutorials or classes you definitely don't need to have the same watercolors, I love Holbein but paints are a personal preference. Holbein's watercolors are very vibrant and easy to control because they don't add Ox gall to their paints. I never painted with Daniel Smith before but from what I hear they are granulated and made from minerals mostly. Don't know much about them but yes, companies name watercolor pigments in similar ways, but DS's Burnt Sienna will never look the same as Holbein's Burnt Sienna. All companies create their watercolors using their own secret ingredients, different binders and fillers. You can definitely find similar colors to match what i used in this video and just use whichever colors you want. Hi Kate! Greetings to you :) that's awesome! I hope you will enjoy watercolors :) they are quite different from pencils but you can do a lot of dry brushing, this way it's like painting with pencils 🤗🌹☺️❤️Thank you!
