Realistic Survival Train World Showcase | Scrap Mechanic

Welcome and in this video, I'll be showcasing my Survival Railway World which I've been working on over the course of 5 weeks. I've started working on the project on the 21st of March 2021 and completed it on the 11th of April. This video was originally recorded on the 15th of April as I've never got around to finishing it until now.

Recorded using OBS Studio (64bit). Edited in Cyberlink Power Director v9.0 and Windows Movie Maker. Intro made using Blender v2.79 and v2.82

I hope they add mod support for survival tile creation. Axolot promised to expand mod support and I guarantee the first thing the modding community will add is train tracks. Very aesthetically pleasing and surprisingly functional build you've made.

Thank you for your feedback Mark, yeah having tile support for survival would be great and would save me from having to grind all of that concrete for the rails. Now we just have to wait for the Devs to finish the 2nd Chapter of Survival as they said they might add train tracks in their Q&A thread.

It’s a cool design, but the following may improve your issues 1- connect the car’s wheels to the locomotive as it gives them traction as well in scrap mechanic and stops most of the lag allowing you to take more wagons (wouldn’t hurt to give the wagons motors as well all controlled by the locomotive) 2- wider curves, that will help with the derailing issue 3- add a double bogie axel allowing them to turn on your wagons which will help navigate the tight turns 4- if you can, move the rails away from other objects as the hit boxes on other static items which may be giving you trouble as well

Thanks for your advice, however if I connected the wagon's wheels to the locomotive they would have to be constantly connected to avoid rewiring them every time (which is not realistic) and they would also drain alot more fuel so it wouldn't be practical. Also, the reason I didn't use bogies was that they require a lot more bearings than a 2 axle wagon which contributes to lag. I'm pretty certain that hitboxes aren't the issue as the track is suspended several blocks above the ground. The only issue with the hitboxes would be when going around a tight corner but that's mostly just the corners fault than anything.

Nice creation you built there! I wanna share some of my experience building vanilla trains: - I use upside down T shaped couplers out of thin pipes. That way, they can not jump out and still have plenty of play. - I use smaller wagons, about 2/3 of what you are using. This makes taking corners a lot easier. You also don't need moving bogies or bearings on those couplers, however, you can also make a double wagon by connecting them with bearings.

Thanks for your tips I appreciate the response. I originally went with the hook and loop coupler as it's a standardised design in the SM train community. However I'll have to try out your suggestion as it sounds promising and would stop the wagons from disconnecting (although that's mostly just a SM problem). Also, I could make smaller wagons however, I would have to make more of them in order to make up for the loss in capacity. I reckon a better solution is just to make wider corners (and for the tracks in the packing station I can use a conveyor belt system for that).

@@cchng Thanks for your advice. I should be getting a better computer by the end of the year as I am currently running on a laptop. Also I am using a Blue Yeti Nano Mic to record my audio so it must of disconnected because the quality should be fine. Yeah and I agree the editing is kind is sloppy in places as I do my editing in windows movie maker and all the other effects I do in another old program called CyberLink Powder Director. The reason being is because the rendering times in Power Director take awhile but you can do cool effects in it.

been debating putting in a monorail from my packing to my trader. this was amazing. the tracks and everything are so nice. mine won't be half as good looking lol. maybe use some logic and put some sensors to change the tracks for you? I really hope they add remotes one day

Very impressive! I think this is about as good as we can ever expect trains to be with tracks out of materials in survival instead of tracks in creative. One piece of feedback about the video production, I thought those transitions with the distorted test screen, noise and the beep were a little bit harsh. Just a little bit lower volume on those bits would be better imo. Not a big deal though.

I would recommend downloading Lord Pain’s asset mod, and then download the dual train track tile used in a kAN video. Go into the world creator and build a long train track. The tracks are odd width, but are super easy to ride and spawn on. It’s really fun, trust me!

I have made and driven trains in creative mode and trust me they are much more fun to drive in there too. But this project was mainly focused on building a railway world in Survival since not many people have done so and I wanted mine to be somewhat realistic to how real-world trains work.

Originally when I first started the world I built a truck to deliver the produce to the packing station. Unfortunately I lost it so I decided to build the railway line since I’ve been thinking of doing a project like that for awhile.

i've been thinking of implementing a rail system into my world for a few days now. do you have any tips for making curves like you did? they seemed to work really well, and im strugling to get anything to work

Thanks for your reply, what I did to make the tracks was the have two rails connected with a beam underneath (to not get in the way of the train's guide wheels) as to have the distance between the rails be consistent. And to orientate the tracks they would be on bearings and have is guard (made of blocks) on the front which "hugs" on the outside of the track infront.

This can easily be fixed by adding wheels and pushing the track away from the walls.

The wheels are the crane wheels from the warehouse, I used the Survival Recipe mod with Balance to get more of them, so it isn’t “technically” entirely vanilla but all the parts I used are in the base game.

Its a little late but how did you manage to make the rails go curvy without it wobbling around too much? could really make it out from the video.

Both the tracks are connected with a beam connected underneath them. Also I used guides on the ends of the track which lock into place with the track in front of it so it wouldn’t jolt out of place.

It was done without mods, if so, how did you make such a railroad design?

The tracks were made with concrete rails on bearings so they could change their orientation. I had to grind a lot of materials such as the stone blocks for the concrete because a lot of track had to be laid.

They are the crane wheels which are in the vanilla game, however I used the survival recipe with balance mod to get them more easily.

I actually didn’t use controllers for all of the track connections. I just used them to get the initial connection and then used the guides on the side of the track to stop it moving out of place. Also I used the survival recipe with Balance mod to craft the crane wheels.

I NEVER EVER reset my survival this mean i have the money to make this but i already have truck the size of a base and a darn flyer that can lift 12 crate no problem and i still have 4 lv 5 truster in storage so now i have to know what is the best all is manual the flyer is fast but hard to drive and has 12 crate max maybe more the truck can get to an insane 60 box witout getin a hell to steer but the train i can give him like 30 box a prety slow speed but almost noting to do and can be auto RLY idk what is the best fast heavy cost whith the flyer LARGE delivery medium speed truck or a auto delivery train whit medium delivery and medium speed bonus point for the train my vegies paking station is just at the front it like a 30 sec walk

I have not used dev commands. The only mod did use is the Survival Recipe with Balance Mod so I could craft the ramps and the crane wheels. So the it isn’t entirely vanilla but the project still took along time to finish. I’ll have to make a follow up video on this as my intention was to just showcase the railway line.
