Awesome work Tommy👍. I knew you'd be able to getting working. I cant wait to get it back and start talking. By the way its older than a 95. My Grandfather gave it me in October 91. So he got it new either in 90 or early 91. Great job and nice work.

I have the RadioShack version of this radio that I bought around 1995. Super clean but needs a mounting bracket and power cable (just ordered both). My 13yo son is just getting into radios (HAM & CB) so it was perfect that i still have it.

Dude that radio is beautiful and now will last another lifetime. Cool that it was his grandpa's. So strange this is I was diggin' around for a working CB in the garage last night and I found this super clean TRC-421A 40 Ch AM rig that looked like it was stored in a vacuum time capsule. I pulled the lid off and it is full of fresh unplowed snow inside. Never been touched. I didn't find any corrosive glue, swollen caps or crusty cracked resistors so I put power to her and she lights up makes four watts. Its an old Mitsubishi BJT in there. I went to bed excited to recap this radio and have it ready for when I head out back OTR after the holidays to run in the 2021 Cascadia. I usually run a Cobra 29 that's been tuned up but I'm between radios right now. I have a President Richard I haven't put the magic spell on yet but for some reason, I was just in the mood for a reliable, straight, clean-cut radio. This little Realistic is going out with me to cap the year off in the Western 10 states. Then I log on and see you working on a clean Realistic radio as well. That's hella cool. Too many thoughts to cover here in the comments. I might make a quick video to share my thoughts and ask you a few questions since I can't find a schematic for the 421A. I'll be feeling my way in the dark but I want to add a TRB-4 Echo Board, Build a Power Input Filter Board with diode, caps, and bleeder resistor, put a filter cap in the audio chain, and maybe.... add a little capacitance and resistance to the final Q circuit to make it have some mild clamp down and swing. We'll see on that last part. I really like the sound of AM radio. I don't know how I feel about the rumors of FM on Class D radio. I'm up for the challenge to learn how to set deviation and let the smoke out of some discriminators I guess LOL. Burn solder, not your soul. 73, 42, and all the good numbers from the top left corner. I'm gone. Catch you on the flip flop.

A solid runner back in the running. Nice job, Tom. Like the comerodity between you all. Matt, da man! A call beats tearing out what little hair we all have left. Really miss radio shack. A parts bin in the neighborhood. No need to keep an extensive inventory. Rock on, Bro. 👊👊 Smilin', I'm off the key. 😑🦗

I'm from Australia Perth just received the same cb radio from the USA. I tested it works OK off frequency. The channel selector is a bit worn. Can I spray some cleaner down it to free it up for a fix

brother thanks so much for the knowledge you are passing on to us what signal generator would you recommend for someone just starting out with repairs on cb radios. Again thanks
@577buttfan3 жыл бұрын
Anything stable.You can find the HP stuff on eBay for pretty good deals sometimes.Ive even used an old radio with final removed in close proximity to tune RX only thing is you can't tune for s9.Which imo really isn't that important when starting out.

@ Full Factory Alignment is what I would do.All frequencies and voltages checked and adjusted, clean and tighten add new thermal compound to active devices.

Is there a limiter you can clip to get more modulation....mine hardly any swing?
@577buttfan2 жыл бұрын
I would have it tuned to 100% modulation.Clipping a limiter is never good for audio unless your in a key down.These radios don't swing much at all.Even if you clip it won't see much more only distorted audio.
