As someone who eats avocados as a whole food group on their own I found that they’re ripe not when they’re soft at the top, but when they give slightly when you press the mid-lower part. Almost like a soft grape. The skin would also be a deep green/reddish purple. Another thing for storing avocado halves, place them in a container and fill halfway (to cover the exposed part of the avocado) with water. It’ll be slightly less firm, but still green and delicious. The Kodocha nostalgia! I remember watching it just as I had finished the 2001 Fruits Basket and realizing Sana & Tohru had the same Eng voice actress: Laura Bailey. Teen me was ecstatic about this.
