This is what happens when you have a strong passeport but you’re dirt poor. Us with weak passeports we have to save up for 2 years and struggle to get a visa before we can leave for a holiday so we never settle for cheap accommodations! If I’m able to go to another country for leisure then I might as well enjoy it and spend my hard earned money on a nice hotel nice food and better security.

After doing 3 months in SE Asia as a relatively broke student I really did find myself just paying the extra $3 for the cosy transport, accom and so forth haha 😅 it didn’t hurt my wallet

My country in SEAsia is modernizing and very affordable, we have proper toilet in towns and cities, just upgrade your budget to 10-20 dollars then you can even have decent experience for 3-4 days

It’s not always like this it’s just when sometimes when your in certain downs and places like small villages and in deep parts of rural SEA . I think some people are taking this video wrong and misinterpreting it , it’s not always like this it’s just sometimes in certain parts of SEA it’s sometimes like this not all the time just sometimes .

As an SEA person i feel very sorry for your travelling difficulties! I mean I wasn't even struggling that much when i was travelling to some local areas in my country. I get a nice hotel with two beds, a bathroom, TV, air conditioner, a fridge and a flush toilet 🚽

I'm from SEA but never encountered this extreme adventure

Most people don't know or care to know this, but SEA is pretty huge. You get everything ranging from bougie metropolis in Singapore, KL, and Bangkok, to the middle of malaria jungle, Cambodia. To go into the rough like these tourists, you gotta really go out of the way. Most backpackers' experience wouldn't be as spartan.

I'm from SEA and I would not subject myself to this... Like where are y'all even going 😭 yall so brave to sleep in a bedspace too.

For $5-10 you can live comfortably and safely every night. She booked hostel along the national roads that are nasties and overpriced instead of staying in a decent place inside cities. That coach bus is the lowest budget kind which cost you $50 to go 1000km+ of Vietnam, but she could have just paid $20/100km travelled for a significantly more spacious, private bed bus. I'm Vietnamese, this is Vietnam, where $1000 dollars for a whole month is business level holidays. If she ever begs for money like some other backpackers, she lost all of our respect.

I'm from sea (india specifically) and i don't get influencers portraying our countries as backward...like this is so misleading and only happens if you want the experience of someone financially struggling

I live in SE asia, and even with my minimal budget would not get that low. Most countries are cheap for hostels and food, even transport. Why torture yourself when travelling unless you want that experience

if you are travelling in SEA, just trouble a young local in someone's home, ask permission from their mom and let them take you through the area. then pay them whatever they are willing to receive

I don’t understand why some people do this ! I saw them in Vietnam they called them the less than a dollar 😂 because they only spend a dollars a day! And let me tell you Viet man has beautiful beaches and amazing resorts that compared to other countries are less expensive and even if u don’t want to spend that much, you can get decent hotels for an ok price! Sorry but by travelling this way you’re missing out and not experience what the country has to offer! This is just suffering lol and don’t tell me you want the authentic experience because this is the reality of lower class people! You’re experience the poor life in south east Asia! This is not authentic this miserable. Middle class and up class don’t live like this! Anyway I loved Vietnam beautiful country and don’t hesitate to go to touristic places they are beautiful

You could have this experience for around 500$ a year Or If you spend 800$ to 1500$ It bumps you into nearly American like living conditions and comforts The bus especially Why are you hopping on a bus with chickens on it? Thailand and Vietnam both have very good bus systems between the major metropolitan areas You really have to put yourself into these situations, cause 90% of the time these issues don’t exist

SEA people here not admitting that those things may be unavoidable if you go further from the city, to destinations where things are still natural and beautiful, mountainous areas with breathtaking views, rarely visited waterfalls, natural hot springs with few people around. If you're like me and prefer to 'hunt' for these natural places uncontaminated by tourism infrastructure or flocking visitors, then you need to get used to them, which to me is pretty much worth it. Villagers in these areas in SEA are also likely to be kind people. If your preference is famous destinations which I'm sure are also great, there are surely better accommodations than shown in the video, even cheaper ones.

As someone who moved to Indonesia from the United Kingdom, the whole toilet paper thing is true 😂 I always carry a roll in my bag when me and my wife go anywhere, but I have only used 1 toilet where it was diy flush with a bucket of water and squatting over it, worst toilet experience of my life.
