i feel like you are the most interesting book channel at the moment so sponsors might feel like sending you books for you reviewing but they might also be terrified of how blunt you are, it's at their own risk, but damn that's so refreshing to get this kind of booktube

I didn’t need a box cutter for my head is the title of this video. 😊. I love your point here. Great storytelling. It’s actually hard to talk about! In my upcoming video, I’m trying to talk about 2 freaking amazing books I’m reading. Not easy! I’m now going to read Tom Lake. Amen, Ann Patchett. She sums up how memories actually work. Amazing.

If you haven’t you HAVE TO read Giovannis Room by James Baldwin!! If you’re not convinced give it the first chapter and see how you feel. I feel like you’d really enjoy it.

I really love your takes on books you read, they are always so interesting to listen to. I often watch booktubers talk about books, but your reviews always have this one good additional thing that i can't seem to figure out what it is. Maybe it is the way you express yourself or the specific words you use ? Idk but good video!

Hey Charles, recent fan here. I know you are hesitant about classics, especially when they are translated, however I’d highly recommend the count of Monte Cristo. Also currently reading the secret history I’m loving it, you’ve got good taste!

You really nailed Ann Patchett's style. I love Auntie Ann's writing, and "Tom Lake" is on my list. "State of Wonder" is probably my favorite AP book, but parts of it annoyed the crap out of me. Has a moving and shocking plot twist. Well done on the entire video.
@maddiebeth_o14 сағат бұрын
I had similar feelings about State of Wonder - liked it but man did some parts irritate me! Especially the fact that Ann Patchett has clearly never been to Eden Prairie, Minnesota. It’s just a regular ass suburb and she described it like there are actual prairies there 😂

Tom Lake was such a flop for me. The mother has told them this story dozens of times! So the plot was propelled by one of them saying "omg I forgot to ask about that", or "omg how did you omit that detail before?". And the story spanned over a week! So you're telling me Lara was monologuing at her adult daughters about story they've already heard and doing so over the span of numerous days??? And all of the girls remained interested and on the edge of their seat waiting to hear more about a story they already know? Get real Ann Patchett! The PC checks also annoyed me. "Omg mom you can't use the word crazy!", "omg mom don't comment about your friends legs!"... I actually had the reverse experience and enjoyed the first 100 pages then got so annoyed with the rest of the book. I enjoyed Dutch House as well, but Tom Lake was not for me. Nice writing but I couldn't get past the premise of a mom monologuing a story her kids already know over the span of a week. And the adult daughters all had the same immature and whiney personality. Still love and support you king
