Love your videos and your ingenuity with self made equipment. I’m 71 years old and grew up camping and love the outdoors. After getting out of the service in 1972 I bought a down sleeping bag that I still use. As many outdoors ventures as I’ve participated in the weather conditions have varied widely. The coldest temperature I camped in was -3 degrees. My sleeping gear was an army sleeping bag cover like the old one you showed, the down bag, and a poncho liner. I have always has a problem with my feet getting cold in cold weather so to remedy that I tried wearing clean dry socks while sleeping. They helped somewhat except in freezing temps. The next attempt was to zip my coat up and slide it over the sleeping bag over my feet. That did the trick. Maybe this is too much but there may be some new folks just getting into outdoor adventures. In cold weather camping when getting in that sleeping bag be sure to take off all the clothes worn during the day. If you wear any clothing in the sleeping bag be sure it is dry and do not wear cotton material. It will absorb your escaping body moisture and keep you cold.

I remembered you showing your knives and machets a while back. I do like to buy blanks and put handles on them my self. I go to Ragnarock forge or Mora to get quality blanks but no way can I get a quality hacker by building it my self at my age. So I took your suggestion, and I do mean suggestion and sent off for an ontairo p-53. My daughter and I go camping still so that will come in handy. I remember as a kid I had what seemed like a fifteen pound ww1 trench machete and I remember hacking away bushes and logs it was fun. Long gone though. Learned how not to take off a leg. It was dull from most likly hitting rocks so if it didhit my leg it would hurt but that hurt taught me how not to do it again. Later in life I hand split all the winters wood supply. I loved splitting wood. use to cut and split about five cords .When I lived up Vermont it was fifteen cords but we had wood cook stoves as well. I didn't split those fifteen cords. We bought that wood already split. I like making kindling. Kind of a meditation for me. Well thanks for listening to my ramble. Stay safe. peace

HI Dave! I'm sure you have thought of this already, but the Arcturus bag works great to trap and hold some of the lost heat when making a dehydrated food meal such as Mountain house. There's usually a good few minutes needed to fully rehydrate the contents after adding the hot water. Often, by the time it's fully ready, it's only luke warm, particularly when it's cold out. Putting the pouch of food in the Arcturus bag (resealed) can make a big difference in how hot your meal is.

Good stuff!! Gully suit? Is that spelled right? Anyway some suggestions. Try travelling in the kayak and just drift with the suit on. Then just pull it ashore, lay down and disappear. Crawl in the sleeping bag and hide. See how stealthy u can do it. Film it and show it. Suggestion 2: Battery powered survival. Just use 18 circular saw, anglegrinder and drill with 4ah batteries. 2 or 3 batteries. Make noise! Build in stone, wood and metal - a camp. A shelter, a chimney and an oven. Use screws and metalbrackets. Have diamond universal cuttingblade for anglegrinder and make something in stone. (I just saw a Black Friday offer and thought, could this be used for survival purposes? Build a treehouse? Whatnot) Anyway great upload! I really like these videos. And btw a third suggestion: What type of fear or what situations make ppl go for the woods? The war? The apocalypse or homelessness? Interview random ppl and see for what reason they are prepping. Best wishes JT.

That would be Frank and shelter :-) Well it looks like you had a pretty good Christmas brother thanks for the video and the additional backstory notes to Ray’s Axe. Hey, What did 2021 say to 2020? LOL.

Not related to this video, but can't remember which one I saw your tip about using three blankets to keep warm. Used that tip to stay warm during last week's winter storm here in Texas when our power went out. Your advice really payed off for us. Thanks.

The reflective 550 is what I've used for years for lashing tent stakes. Nothing worse than tripping over it in the middle of the night when your sneaking a pee. Ive got 3 of those old bag covers I got from a customer that gave them to me. Had no idea they were rare. Thanks for sharing, and don't work yourself to death brother! You won't be on your death bed wishin you'd of worked more.

Sounds good, I need a lot more of that reflective cord. Hang onto those bags! Take care and thanks for watching

That old double bit axe looks a lot like my ol craftsman double bit head.one old tip my granddad had for loose handles either on a hammer or axe was to soak it in antifreeze ,it'll get tighter than a nuns **** just keeps animals away from the containers soaking.. Great vid ,Dave .thanks for keeping it real.

That ghillie suit is great. I can't wait for the videos. :) I have purchased a lot of orange reflective paracord from Menards. It works great for looping around tent stakes in addition to lines from the tent so you don't trip over them in the dark. They reflect really well.

Touching story about Ray's axe. I can just imagine that dad relieving his pain while spending time with the memory of his son by using that axe. You did them honor by sharing that story and not letting that axe go to waste in someone's basement. You'll add memories to it of your own, like you said. But you'll always think of Ray when you pick it up - and that's as it should be.
@Reallybigmonkey13 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you liked it Jason. When I first picked it up I figured it was just a cheap worthless axe. After hearing the story I knew there was great value in it. I hope to use it as often as possible. Take care and thanks for watching brother
