Update for anyone who was curious, like me.... Closing up the wound, it's job done until Paul's follow-up appointment - where Dr Vincent takes off his bandages and is pleased with the results of her surgery. 'It looks like it's healing really, really good,' she says. 'We sent in the skin tag to pathology to see whether or not it was cancerous, that was the biggest thing we wanted to rule out. The pathology report came back and everything is benign!' 'There was no bone in there, unfortunately I can't say it was a toe, it's just a benign skin tag.' After years of waiting, Paul finally has the answers he's been looking for, and he's now keen to get on with the rest of his life. He adds: 'It just feels great to be able to walk around, this has been the best medical experience of my life!'

This looks exactly like the growth I had under my foot. I had surgery to remove it and pathology showed it was a tumor with cancerous cells. I had to go back for a second surgery to remove more skin around to make sure all the cancerous cells were removed. I’m so glad I finally got it removed because it was affecting a nerve and I would constantly get it caught on rugs and whatnot tearing it.

Most often the extra digit grows next to the fifth finger or toe. Polydactyly tends to run in families. It may also result from genetic mutations or environmental causes. The usual treatment is surgery to remove the extra digit.👍

I absolutely can NOT believe she didnt undermine some of the remaining skin from the tissue underneath to make closure easier. To just keep squeezing and contorting his foot until it looked like it would snap when she could have undermined which would have allowed the skin to stretch FAR more than it did with much greater ease just blew my mind. That was ridiculous.

When you review the ANATOMY. The incision was made until the dermis. dermis contains capillaries ( small blood vessels = less bleeding) . Blood vessels are found in the hypodermis. Thus, since the ‘skin tag’ didn’t go deeper into the adjacent structures she doesn’t need to cut up until the hypodermis. :)
