=============================
In this video, we’re going to introduce you to the NX/NJ series of ‪@OmronAutomationAmericas‬. The NX/NJ controllers are very powerful as they combine both PLC and motion control functions into one package.
What’s the difference between a PLC and a Motion Controller?
- PLCs were originally designed to replace the huge number of switches and relays that performed the logical control of electrical circuits.
- A Motion Controller typically refers to servo, stepper, or proportional hydraulic valve systems with extremely precise and lightning-fast position/velocity/torque control.
Over the last two decades, PLCs were built that integrated motion functions, but they still lacked the speed, or the computing power required, in many applications.
Traditional PLCs called upon to perform motion control often work together with add-on motion controllers to perform any required motion control functions.
The NX/NJ series of controllers can perform traditional PLC control functions via typical digital and analog I/O field devices and at the same time perform precise motion control via powerful processors exhibiting high-speed process execution and data acquisition capability.
1-1) The base model NX1P2 is a brick-style controller that comes complete with a power supply, CPU, and fixed digital I/O. Expansion digital I/O, as well as analog I/O modules, can be added to this unit. The NX1P2 is suitable for applications with 100-200 I/O and can control up to 8 axes.
1-2) The NX102 is a very popular mid-range controller. The NX102 Controller integrates inputs, logic, outputs, safety, and robotics. The NX102 is suitable for larger applications having up to 1000 I/O and can handle up to 12 motion axes.
In addition to traditional Ethernet connectivity, the NX102 is IIoT ready with OPC UA and can easily incorporate database functionality.
1-3) The NX701 is Omron’s flagship controller performing large-scale, high-speed, high-accuracy control by synchronizing up to 256 axes with the fastest cycle time of 125 µs.
The NX701 provides warp speed and accurate control by synchronizing all devices such as vision sensors, servo drives, and field devices.
2) Similar to the NX series, the NJ series is a machine controller for logic sequence and motion that includes CPU options for advanced functions such as robotics.
The NJ Series includes the NJ101, NJ301, and NJ501 versions.
2-1) The NJ501 is IIoT ready with OPC UA and can easily incorporate database functionality. The NJ501 is capable of controlling up to 64 axes.
NJ controllers are capable of accommodating legacy Omron CJ series I/O. Upgrading older Omron controllers using new NJ series controllers is easily accomplished.
You can keep your old CJ series I/O modules and add them to the NJ series controller bus. This is a very attractive feature as system upgrade cost is reduced as well as the elimination of potential installation headaches.
Sysmac Studio is the Machine Control and Factory Automation used for programming the NX/NJ series of controllers. Sysmac Studio combines PLC, motion control, and HMI programming in one easy-to-use package.
Sysmac Studio also has powerful offline simulation capabilities meaning you don’t need the hardware to test a program. A 3D simulator is included as well.
In addition to the full version, a Sysmac Studio Lite version is available which is capable of programming NX1P2, NX102, and NJ1 controllers with limited functionality.
You can download a 30-day trial full version of Sysmac Studio here on this page: bit.ly/SYSSTDIO
North American College or university students can receive six months of free access to Sysmac Studio: bit.ly/SYSSTDIOs

We really favor the Omron software as it allows us to work with PLCs that were devolved over such a large timeframe as a few years ago I had to work on a machine with CPU1

Up to 1000 I/O? The GE Series Six was doing either 32K I/O or 32K inputs and 32K outputs in the 80's. I can't remember which, it's been too long... :) The biggest one that I ever installed had about 3K of I/O attached to it. It never broke a sweat, clocking in at somewhere around 50ms for the scan time. For their day, these were simply amazing PLCs. I discovered that by soldering in a jumper at JP7 it would double the size of the smaller boards from 4K to 8K on its PLC program memory. GE actually made just the one board, and would clip JP7 out of the "smaller" boards and label it as a 12K board (4K of PLC memory and 8K of registers). Otherwise it was left in and labeled as a 16K board (and priced for about $4000 more). GE was not pleased with me... But the Omrons look like capable PLCs, and "Rockwell" is nowhere to be found in their name. I wholeheartedly approve. :)

Hey MrWaalkman. Impressive indeed. Those older GE PLCs were solid and did a great job with 80's I/O.

You can actually go beyond 1000 I/O with NX102 via adding couplers. We have done this in one of our projects.

You mean adding ethercat couplers distributed? Lots of people still prefer using ethernet IP for whatever reason.

Sysmac studio is far better in a lot of ways than cx programmer, However Sysmac still has some weird bugs that are really annoying. For example, ctrl+C and ctrl+V don't always work, especially for pasting tags, Sysmac doesn't always recognize that the pasted tag already exists and instead tries to create a new tag. I really look forward to a fully flushed out version of Sysmac studio.

As someone starting their first project with Sysmac Studio and having spent about 16 years using CX Programmer, I miss a few features of CX. I liked the smart interface of CX that allowed me to type the instruction quick reference and use the CTRL plus arrow keys to join up the bus whereas I can't see that facility in Sysmac. I have to sort of drag an interconnect and pick a contact/function/instruction. And the other thing I miss is the ability to pick whether a new tag is either a local or global tag as you create it. There are others but I don't want to start a rant!

Morning sir, I have problem with my cpu nj101-9000, it's error f3 IP 41, can you explain about the solution?
@realpars
@realpars Жыл бұрын
This can mean one of two things. Either: (1) the IP node address on the rotary switches is different to the IP address set in the CX-P programmer, OR, (2) You may need to go to the FINS/UDP tab of the Ethernet setup and change the conversion method to "IP Address table". I have heard that if the conversion method is set to any of the automatic modes, the F3 error may occur.

I have no idea over Omron make PLCs. But I have worked with Delta, Siemens & Allen Bradley PLCs. Want to know how these PLCs perform in real-world & their durability matters. Durability is an important aspect. Can anybody give me an idea?

Just as Allen Bradley, omron plcs are known to work perfectly well in extreme environmental conditions such as dusty areas and highly humid environments as well. If I were to rank it out of the 3, it will be (1)Allen Bradley, (2) omron then finally (3) Siemens. Humble Technician's perspective.

Omron PLCs are very popular in marine industry. They have been proofed very durable through the years. I have seen old Omron series running in really bad conditions for many many years! And of course I use them all the time.

Omron plcs are great and reliable. However, for larger applications, allen bradley is probably the best bet. For smaller machine application, omron plcs are awesome.

I use Omron PLCs on vehicles (special vehicle conversions. They are subject to vibration and motion a lot). I have taken out PLCs after 15 years of use and refitted them to other vehicles. I've seen 25 years of use on some parts. and have hardly ever had component failure across roughly 400 different sytems that I have commissioned over the last 26 years.
