Bonus Fact: Annenburg has a considerable German population living in it like the gunsmith and we obviously know the town is located in New Hanover, which might come from *'Hanover'* a city in Lower Saxony, Germany. Between the 1840s to 1850s, more than a million germans fled to the US to flee the riots, revolution and economic hardships at the time. Yeah, especially Mary-Beth. I love her character, but she should've gotten it. In the Chapter 4 mission where you go to save Tilly from the Foreman Brothers, Arthur and Mary-Beth have a conversation and share a cigarette. By this time Arthur's TB was active, so he should have gotten Mary-Beth ill. Thankfully, it seems he didn't.
@itsGreyHat Жыл бұрын
She probably did have it but not have active tb. Her body was strong enough to keep the tb cells under control. I don’t know how to explain it better, I’m sorry. The reason why Arthur’s tb became active was how much stress his body was going under, from getting shot and beaten by colms gangs, the emotional stress from his friends deaths and his rough lifestyle most likely activated his tb
@LegendarySilasWalker Жыл бұрын
TB is airborne. You'd have to cough or sneeze in another persons face to give them the disease. Even a shared cigarette wouldn't transmit this due to the disease being present in the lungs, not in saliva.

What I really like about the idea of having Arthur suffering a terminal illness like tuberculosis, is that it's a way to toy around with the general idea that in an open world game like Rockstar games your avatar usually becomes an unstoppable force of nature by the late game, after maxing out on money, equipment, guns etc. Because the first RDR game exists we know that Arthur is not going to make it pretty much from the start of the game, but having him slowly declining, not being able to benefit from food anymore, and dying throwing the remainder of his forces into his redemption is the best way his story could have been handled.

I have first hand experience with it. My FIL had it. One year of antibiotics before he was clear. Six months of them before he wasn't contagious. You don't just get exposed and go into active TB. You can have latent TB and most people do when they're exposed. You are asymptomatic and not contagious with latent. Something happens with your immune system and it'll trigger you into active where you will be contagious and show symptoms. Arthur was fairly young and healthy. What was the event that caused his body to be unable to fight it off and cause him to go into active TB? I have to assume the beating from the Odriscolls was the trigger.
@burninsherman10377 ай бұрын
Being beaten and shot by the O'driscolls, stress of being on the run, his family falling apart around him, everything with Guarma, and all the humidity and decay around while living at Shady Belle and Lakay.
