Chris, Mark, Red, Dave, Ro, and their DJ G.A., better known as Another Bad Creation, were the cutest little things straight out of the southside of Atlanta. With some help from Michael Bivins, Dallas Austin, and Kevin Wales, they went on to sell millions of albums. But if you blinked, you probably missed their rise and their disappearance. Here’s what happened.

Sadly, this is the story for a lot of young acts: TLC, ABC etc etc.. Parents gotta learn how to get THEIR OWN lawyer to negotiate these deals!. Stop letting the record company appoint you a lawyer.. Its so sad how often this has happened to people. Those boys couldve had college or trade school paid for with that money.

One thing I can say about the music business it doesn’t matter who’s in charge or a rather they are white or black they both would do you wrong when it comes to that money if you don’t have a good lawyer to look over that contract to make sure that you are getting paid they would just let you live a fantasy of being famous while they just collect the money and this is what they do to a lot of artists. They did it to TLC and so on and so on.

Thank you for this update. I personally loved The Boys, ABC, and Kriss Kross in that order. Had the biggest crush on Hakeem from The Boys, Red from ABC, and though lighter Kris was cute. I NEVER knew they had connections with JD. If so, they probably would've went further than being with Michael Bivens... His focus was mainly on BBD and Boyz II Men. But then again, Bow Wow and Da Brat are the most consistent artist with So So Def (Kris Kross fell off after a few hits and definitely haven't heard anything from Dem Franchise Boyz or Jagged Edge).

@@Boobalopbop we don’t know that because there’s no evidence of these particular parents spending the money. @@taotaostrong I find it shameful too, but they legally could not have those kids sing on an album being produced for sale without permission from the parents. That’s just a fact. If no deal was ever made, then all those boys, who are now men can sue and easily win.

I was today years old when I found out that Kris Kross was sneak dissing ABC on “Jump Jump”! I NEVER made that correlation! They came out when I was about 10 so I guess psychologically it wasn’t that deep for me. It’s a shame what happened to them. It’s truly difficult for young artists to grow up & still be relevant in the music industry. Especially if their music is more “trendy” than “classic”. Out of this bunch I think TLC were the only ones to sustain longevity.

They all do it unfortunately anytime you see an artist with their own label that's a subsidiary of a major label all that tells you is the artist got robbed and confronted the label and this is the major labels way of "paying them back" they tell the artist how they robbed him and make him go out to find some fresh dummies that they can rob together. It's more expensive to take children on a tour than adults. They need tutors to continue their education and have to maintain certain work hours due to child labor laws. Since the industry adults around them were making their money, they didn't care to take on the responsibility of making a tour happen. That's sad because they did a great job and deserved to get handsomely paid.

They did deserve to go on tour! Kris Kross went on tour...with Michael Jackson for christ sakes!🤣 They were the opening acts on the Dangerous Tour....actually, that could explain it a bit...there would be a lot of $$$ behind a Michael Jackson tour and since only 2 kids in Kris Kross to have liability over as opposed to ABC having 6,7 kids to be liable for could get very expensive!

Never thought of it that way. Maybe these boys turned out ok because they DIDN'T go on tour, could've been a blessing in disguise, remember one of the Kris Kross members ended up a drug addict. He probably started while on the road with adults and away from his parents.

it's disheartening how many shady people, especially in the entertainment industry, are just waiting for the next person to come around, so they can use them. I understand it takes money to make a record, and especially shows and music videos, but the actual artist(s) shouldn't ever get anywhere near the smallest piece of the pie.

yeah but I wonder if the really made all that much. they made TV and show appearances that pays little to nothing. albums sales paid for the items above and the people who helped them and their pay that was split 6 ways. and they didn't tour. i think it's because they didn't have enough material for a whole concert they only really had the one song. They feel differently but its true..(Kriss Kross didn't tour either just a handful of performances at other people's shows again maybe 2 known songs tops) and the second album flopped. I know people definitely get taken advantage of but im not sure thats the case here i dont think they made what they thought they deserved

@@hootsaidtheowl you made some valid points and you're not wrong but even though their careers were shot lived and their catalogs were small they didn't make what they deserved for that period of time that on top of yes splitting up really 5 ways because the producer gets his first then everything else management, agent, publicist and a few others that pie is now crumbs my biggest problem is that you had someone who had been in the game seen how the industry can be because they experienced what type of business it was a didn't better prepare them to understand the business side

@@hootsaidtheowl abc 1st album sold 2mil copies. Back then a cd cost about $15 and cassette was probably about $10. Times that by 2mil and it’s roughly 25-30 mil…which is astronomical. The backend expense to fund the album should’ve left them with more then half that amount for profit. So somebody made bank off those boys hard labor to make and talent. They could’ve did a small promotional tour off that album maybe 10 or so shows that could’ve at least put a little money in those boys pockets. Sure they wouldn’t have been able to live like kings the rest of their lives off just one album. And if their parents screwed over their money then that’s fkd up for sure. But then that’s why mike biv should’ve put part of that profit from the abc album and if not hand it to the boys at that moment, at least set up a separate trust fund for each of them that they couldn’t touch til they turned 21 that potentially could’ve been worth a few hundred grand, maybe half a mil each once they were legally old enough to access it themselves. Those boys were taken advantage of, period.

Interesting... Another Bad Creation. I have fond memories of only two of they records. _Iesha_ and _Playground_ is all I know and care about. They came out right when I started getting into music. I was always listening to the radio, watching music videos and of course snooping around my dad's tape and vinyl collection. My big cousins and I made a step to _Iesha._ They always allowed me to join because they knew that I was a quick learner and I could keep up. My big cousin had they debut LP on cassette, but I don't remember listening to the whole thing. In 1990/1991, 'twas all about Johnny Gill, En Vogue, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Oh, and Samuelle's _So You Like What You See._ My dad and I used to always sing and dance to that cut. Folks don't remember it, but I sure do. Anyway, circling back to Another Bad Creation, I knew it was it for them when I saw they sophomore LP in stores w/o a lick of promotion. Even back then I knew when an artist's/band's time was up. Whenever an artist had hella promo behind they project, I knew they were good. For example, Wxrner Brxs. Records used to give Madonna Ciccone cutouts, posters, bumper stickers, keychains, etcetera. I knew that 1992's _Nastee_ was it for Kwamé Holland. His label ain't give him diddlyquat. Hell, they barely played the videos from that LP. Imma just hold onto the fond memories I have of Another Bad Creation's _Iesha_ and keep it movin'. That tune reminds me of: putting a seashell on my ear and hearing the ocean, _Candy Land, Monopoly,_ making steps w/ my cousins, red Squeez Its, them lil' light-up Payless shoes, bean bags and lemon-scented stickers.

Michael Bivins was the main one complaining about Maurice Starr stealing money from New Edition. Now, he ended up with a group who feels the same way about him. Basically, business is business. Parents need to encourage creativity but prioritize education and stability. Two albums is more than a lot of groups accomplish. Take the good with the bad. Iesha and Playground are classics from that era. I loved the songs but the group looked weird to me, a few were really little kids, not all teens. They didn't all look the same age the way New Edition did. I never understood the point. It wasn't like a family of brothers where you could explain why they all were hanging out together at different ages (like Jackson 5).

Ralph and Mike both know how being stole from feels. They should have looked out for the guys and made sure they didn't get taken advantage of. Smh

Romel Chapman is my cousin. His maternal Grandmother is my Father's baby sister. Unfortunately both have transitioned, but we still keep in touch. His Dad, my first cousin is a Pastor.

Omg so glad you did this video because I always wondered why they fell off. I had a huge crush on Chris from ABC at the time. I wished they never ditched Jermaine because he was the main guy to would of took them far

It was a SHAME how they went from a Platinum album and then nothing. Motown was on their way down a LONG spiral down during this time too.

I was so in love with this group. Redd was my favorite. I never knew what happened to them. Thanks so much RRG for the info! I hate they got cheated out of so much bc they were children and didnt understand the business.

That part about David being Ralph Tresvant's nephew had me asking questions. Definitely not judging because you never know what folks go through, but seems they could have by-passed strangers - stylist and her friend and went straight to the successful uncle and why was he singing for money for food? Anyway just had me in my thoughts.

Well first, NE hadn't exactly made a lot of money either. I heard Rickey Bell recently say, he has never seen a New Edition royalty check to this day. Another thing, the part about him being Ralph's nephew, if I remember correctly he wasn't actually his nephew. I believe it was something along the lines of the nephew of Ralph's then girlfriend that would later become his first wife or something like that. He might have been a close friend's son or something, but I don't believe he was actually a nephew of Ralph's, at least that's the way I remember it back then.
