This week on New Detectives - In criminal investigations, a simple clue can provide the missing link by placing a suspect at the scene of the crime. Dirt left on shoes, tires or clothes can pinpoint where the crime occurred. But it takes the skilled eye of a forensic investigator to follow the trail of evidence to find the killer.

Too many cases of obvious murder are ruled as 'suicide' either because of low police funding, police laziness, or too often, because the victim is of the 'lower' rungs of society, so deemed not worth the time, effort, or resources.

The fiancé in the first one was smart - he knew he didn't kill her so he lawyered up and shut up, and didn't let the cops waste their time trying to get a confession out of him. As for the "suicide," if some 40-year-old dude was wanting to marry my 16-year-old daughter, there would be a murder, alright. And it wouldn't be my little girl.

Protect her with everything you've got. I'm often disappointed with how lax some parents are about the protection of their kids. You don't need to be a helicopter parent, but also so lax that they drugged at a party and worse... The answer? Get them self defense lessons. Train their minds to be even stronger than their bodies. Being able to let your kid go live out a social life should be fine, but if you don't help them get to a place of self sufficiency and awareness...then you're sending them to their misery or deaths. Parenting isn't a joke...and I'm not a parent of a human child, by any means. However, I have considered it and had deep thoughts about what that means.

19:54 Hearing Galveston, Texas being described by it's "balmy weather year round" hits a little different with all the snow and days without power we've been enduring down here. We Texans usually have a love/hate relationship with the sun, but when it came peeking out yesterday amid the land of snow stretching as far as the eye could see, my heart sang with joy and hope. Summer will be a hurt train of suffocating heat and humidity, but we're built for that. Not snow. I never wanna see snow again. I'd like to order some more Balmy please!

Furthermore, PC ownership trended in the middle class, with most owners being 30-40. Older middle class people were much less likely to be involved in a homicide, so your average homicide investigator wouldn’t likely be looking for evidence on floppy disc.

@@liridonb it was used before mobile phones. It was an electronic device that used to send you an electronic message if someone needed to speak to you urgently. You'd then go and find a landline phone to ring that person to find out what they wanted. Old school stuff!

@@liridonb usually it would only send numbers. Bot like text message. It was essentially a pocket caller ID. A lot of drug dealers and pot dealers used them in late 90's and early 2000's. Is it not amazing, that if a detective believes a person is guilty, but there is no evidence, they will persevere until they can construct such evidence. They will then proceed with the statement ''Prosecutors believe'', not '' prosecutors can prove.'' Highly suspicious!!
