Charles was under pressure from Phillip to settle down & have an heir & a spare. Diana's sisters told her it was too late to back out of the marriage. They both didn't know each other. And we're not compatible as a couple, not alot in common. He was much older & experienced & she was not. He was in love with Camilla. He was in no hurry to marry. So sad, both were unhappy in their union. Produced two wonderful sons, young men. Of course Charles did get to marry her eventually. Charles cheated on his wife with the wife of a best friend, where was his faithfulness & loyalty? Camilla cheated on her husband. The both of them deserve each other. Cheating creates secrets & pain to the spouses & children it creates distrust with the lying & running around. Nasty business cheating is. Behavior is selfish & hurtful.

George V made it clear during the War that it was OK for his chldren to marry into the British upper class and 2 of his sons married Scottish girls. His daughter Mary married an English peer and in short British royals had been marrying British upper class girls for 60 odd years before Diana came along. Charles and DIana were on honeymoon for 6 weeks or more. they could not be making love or talkng all the time... and Charles thought that DI woul like to discuss books iwht him. She didnt.

In my opinion, the marriage failed because Charles and Diana are very similar. They had the same general needs in common, but in having them in common neither was able to make the other happy. Both of them were immature, needy and looking for a substitute father/mother in a marriage rather than a husband or wife. Camilla works for Charles because she is more like a mother than a wife. Both of them (Charles & Diana) also only really thrived as the center of attention. Putting them together just creates competition and disappointment. It might have worked if Charles had invested himself more in the marraige. But its equally possibly that giving Diana more attention would have simply led to her craving even more attention.

I don't think they were similar. Prince Charles was raised to be a representant. He learned that there is a difference between public and private. He learned that sticking to the protocol is essential for the Monarchy. "Never complain, never explain ". His mothers sense of duty is immense. Diana didn't care about the protocol, she would tell a journalist with a camera the same things as she would tell friends in a café. (there are those "tapes " where she tells how much she hated her stepmother and how she slapped her own father in the face). She was simply unable to understand many many things ....

I love watching these older episodes from the early to mid-ninties. All the interesting predictions. Some must happen, some could never happen, some they didn't see coming at all. Here we are in 2022. Diana, died in a car crash. Charles married to Camilla and inching ever closer to the throne. Sarah and Andrew........never REALLY broke up, did they? Edward and Sophie - still going strong. Diana's boys, all grown up. William made a solid choice for a wife and they are still happily together. Harry, well, Harry has made his choices too. Beatrice and Eugenie happily married and new mama's as well. Zara also happily married and a mom. I never hear anything about Peter, so I don't know. Obviously, Edward and Sophie's kids are still a tad young for scandalous relationship issues, but I suspect they will fair better than some. The Queen lost her sister, then a few weeks later her mother, and most recently, her devoted husband of 62 years. She is now 95 and will celebrate her platinum jubilee this summer. 70 years on the throne. Quite the accomplishment. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Diana was the only solution to all the things that the royals were looking for at the time. Her bloodlines were even greater than theirs were, she was a virgin and she was young and moldable. Not only that they knew all about her as they lived in the same area, watched her grow up. That is very true. People in particular often underestimate or misunderstand how deeply tied into court life all of the people are. Even if those ties are not always immediately apparent. The other important aspect to Diana was her grandmother being very close to queen mother. Andrew Parker Bowles was a high flyer in the very aristocratic cavarly units around the royal family and within the orbit of the royal family. Everyone around the court is there for a reason though the reasons may not be obvious. And the rules of the court allow the Prince of Wales (or the king) just about unlimited power over the court and their wives. And I believe that if there had not been Camila, there would have simply been another "Camila" who would have fallen into the same role as official mistress. And this is nothing new. Its basically part of the structure of the house of Windsor/Hannover going way back. Anyone raised as Prince of Wales tends to be an awful person. There tends to be more success with female heirs or second sons jumping into the succession. Since 1800, I think only two eldest sons have actually made it to the throne (George IV and Edward VII). And both of them were irresponsible personal disasters with bad marriages. Charles exactly fits the pattern.

He turned out to be complicit in the Epstein scandal (accused of raping a teenager). Charles was fun-loving but he took his job seriously. In my research about this marriage is, I find out that dodi father was Diana's father friend. She knew dodi for a long time and yet they didn't marry each other.
