I personally call it a boring Butler Job. The Austrian showed us the reality with a Portier in Hotel Sacher. When I was a child. Then you stop being obsessed with Royalty and may even want to have a Job in the Hotel Industry?

Not only was I too wondering about the cleaning. Which insurance company insures ALL that art, the premium must be astronomical. Although I'm positive there are a number of companies that would need to share the risk.

To those of you interested, I highly recommend "The House" by the duke's late mother, Deborah. This piece did not even begin to scratch the surface of the history of the house, the family, and its contents. It's one of three books I would want if stranded on a desert island. The dowager duchess was the last surviving of the Mitford sisters and her writing is as witty as any of her sisters'. I actually ran into her on the street in London once and we had the most incredible conversation. And if you are walker, stay in Bakewell and hike the three miles through the countryside to Chatsworth. Best thing I ever did.

I am very lucky to live on the doorstep of Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall. Chatsworth is my favourite country house. I have fond memories as a child first visiting Chatsworth on a school trip in the late 1960s. The wonderful 11th Duke came and chatted with us whilst touring his home. His wife Deborah, waved to us when we stopped to have a picnic. Chatsworth holds amazing firework displays in November and is magical at Christmas. A beautiful and welcoming home.

Beautiful leather embossed wall panels. The Chateau of Marly near Paris, unfortunately, no longer exists; built in 1679 appears to be the inspiration for this palace. So glad the English version still exists. The modern sculptures look wonderful on the Cascade. The reclining Canova, wow.Thanks for this posting and thanks to the Duke of Devonshire for the thoughtful but expensive maintenance.

In my humble opinion, I find Chatsworth much more architectural pleasing than any of the royal residences, including Buckingham Palace. The beautiful gardens not to mention the engineering feat of the beautiful water displays. The interior and the amazing displays of artifacts, furniture , paintings are daunting for the average person. The duke appears not only knowledgeable but has such a pleasant demeanor. He often states "we're very lucky" when he speaks of the house and gives credit to his team and especially the people who come to visit. Would really enjoy being able to see this remarkable house and grounds one day. 😊 43:28

While this video focuses on the Royal Apartment at Chatsworth, it should be remembered that part of the public loyalty to the Estate, is based on the actions of William. Cavendish, who during the plague outbreak at Eames, the Duke of Devonshire provided more food. To the village than could have possibly been consumed by the populace during the town’ Quarantine and only asked for a tiny amount that they could afford, showing true Noblesse Oblige. It was due to. This that those. That survived the epidemic, did not starve to death during those long. Forty days.

I loved King William . In my opinion , he was one of the best rulers in British History . He laid down the foundations for British Dominance . He also laid down the foundations of a more modern democracy . And he laid down the foundations for diplomatic kings for the future . Peter the Great of Russia , called King William his hero. So you can say through King William's long distance tutelage , Peter the Great only achieved what he achieved , because of the enormous influence of King William .

I hope to still live the day when a new way of generating affordable energy will become available to everybody.. including to the owners and caretakers of such architectural treasures in their remote country sides. We can see this progress every year. We get closer to this big game changer. Access to the internet, connecting any room in such a castle to the entire world any time if it is desired, seems like nothing special any more .. but it is in fact an incredible development for residents and visitors alike. (Such as me "visiting" the inside of the castle while sitting in a jungle place in South East Asia). LED lightening which saves electricity etc but still can fit the required light quality is another such progress in technology I think. Next should follow the power generating invention to allow low cost heating and cultivation of plants in greenhouses which are in need of warmer temperatures. (P.ex. Orchids) Instead of being beautiful remotely located museums such places will be able to combine history, art and and new income!

@@dinogove Yes. We need this still to be achieved. For the benefit of the entire humankind. End the parasitic condition of oil business. @@NickVenture1 I love the way you think. Energy should be free. Big business must stop their relentless greed.
@NickVenture1
@NickVenture1 3 жыл бұрын
@@dinogove Exactly. It will create a huge shift in the distribution of wealth. When people, villages, towns and nations can finally generate the energy required to function without giving away a penny to the oil producers. , I mean especially these desert places from where this dirt has to be moved over the oceans and continents in order to be burned. It is a parasitic system because wealth generated by billions of people thanks to their hard work and intelligence is siphoned away by a minority selling basically rotten dirt. Many scientists are working on this matter and we can hope that the days when energy will become available for "free" are soon to come. To run and own a large house or such castles will be much more easy... That is the future !

On the contrary the staff are not welcoming at all. I was met on entrance to the car park by an aggressive security man who did not want me to use my disabled badge to park up by the stables he was shouting at me a disabled man that much that my young daughter was terrified and it really spoilt our first visit to this House and we had a 100 mile journey. This is yet a case of the people in the big house not being aware of the reality on the ground. Another observation with respect is that the visitors whom I spoke to like me did not feel that the contemporary sat well with the classical, people expect period art furniture and fittings not something that they might find in ikea. Though I was impressed by the countless number of Dyson fans - good choice. So I was enticed and beguiled by the video to visit but the reality is nothing like any of the videos on here depict. I really wish that I had blogged my experience as proof, maybe next time! But I was impressed by Capability Browns landscape and it is not uncommon for him to save what would have otherwise been a disastrous visit.

And it's the same way here in the US although not specifically where I live in Southeast Louisiana because Louisiana never really belonged to Britain, it was Spanish and then French until the Louisiana purchase when the United States bought it from France. But up and down the East coast it's quite common for towns, cities, counties, ect to be named after places, people and Royals. A well known example is New York state and their capital city New York. A less well known place would be William and Mary College or University, it's the second oldest university in the US from the year 1693 and it's located in the state of Virginia on the East coast and it's named for the same King and Queen that the Duke of Devonshire built the state rooms for at Chatsworth. 🖖 Live long and prosper 🌠 And a very good night and or day to you both! 👋💞✌⚘⚘

@@phyllisruthmick5391 actually Albany is the capital of New York state. Albany is like New York also named after King James II & VII as before he was king he was Duke of York and Albany (Albany is an old term meaning Northern Scotland)

Would you mind telling me how to find out more about the bronze screaming men sculptures (covering their ears) in the cascading fountain? Are they made by Grillet? Are they still there? Stunning!

I have always wondered what did they do with all these bedrooms! Surely they didn't house 100 guests every day in order to use 50 bedrooms!

The 1st Duke created lodgings for King William III but forgot to create an incentive for the kind to come to him. Lusciously decorated rooms could not serve as incentive in themselves as the kind would have such abodes aplenty by himself and others would have similar stately rooms to offer. Give a person a good reason, and he will come. Without it, it is just lustre, foil.

the 1st Duke helped put William on the throne. One can understand why he might have assumed that was enough to merit a visit.

Thank the lord for todays minialism not so many poor servants required to clean the over cluttered places. Its a good thing that aristos pass properties on to future generations. Keeping our history alive so thank god for aristos too.
