I am 59 and in my youth, in the late 70's and throughout the 80's, life for me and my friends on Merseyside just revolved around pubs and nightclubs. No drugs, very little violence, except the occasional booze fuelled flare up in a pub or club, largely just fun. I must have been living in a parallel universe to this.

Thats cos not many herion users in Liverpool, plenty of weed and coke users though. Liverpool has long been known as the drug gateway/capital of england, its where it often comes in and where its often distributed from, but hard drug use like herion isnt that big in Liverpool, throughout the 70s and 80s getting a bag of coke in town was easy as getting ciggys tbf

N.E GAMING I'll pretend that you're not a complete fucktard who genuinely believes that there is a Midlands in England. Look up the Dioceses of the Church of England or the North South divide. There never has been a Midlands, its just a load of bollocks to help the Government micro manage.

I spent 4 years in Liverpool and its a beautiful city. Very friendly , but I've noticed how the snobby up themselves London rabble alway's run Liverpool down. As someone who has got to know many Irish people , that Irish influence has made Liverpool a good place to live! Spent 10 month's rotting in London and what a difference! London was the worst city i ever Lived in! Looking forward to spending time in Liverpool soon.

@@maureenkidd6629 It didn't used to be. It has changed quite dramatically in the last 50 years. When I was young it was almost pleasant. Took a lot of influence from Ireland and had a warm friendly tone. There's very few people left who speak like that in the actual city. Sean Evans who plays Endeavour has an old school Liverpool accent. Ricky Tomlinson has it. But round about the early 1980's it developed a vocal 'crack' and a strange screechy tone that has absolutely no resemblance to the original. I can't hack it myself and I live there!

I'm not anywhere near Liverpool, but I remember a guy being murdered because he bought the last portion of chicken and chips at a chip shop. The murder sounded particularly gruesome, because they practically ripped the man's face off, by rubbing it on a rough cast wall. It always struck me as a sign that some people are beyond any redemption.

I have to say Shaun Smith is a unreal guy. all the way from Canada I wrote this geezah and told him my own street life and addiction in Vancouver BC Hastings Street. I asked him if I could come to work at his gym where he is and I was welcomed with open arms and we messaged back n fourth a couple x. I became a trainer during my recovery process and I've boxed for alot of years. I just wanted to take in his rise above his dark past , his health issues and how much I respected him made me want to travel and work for his gym. hes a true gentleman this man and a man for who is today I respect imencley . I'm more then a fan I feel part of his past in my own life. I don't give a fuck what he does today and how he conducts himself. he treated me with total respect and was welcoming and still oneday I plan to make that trip and be a part of a gym trying it's best to make a change for the better of young minds and street life. don't matter where ya ll from we all have a past. mine felt legit to his. this is one badass man with a true heart to better his environment and himself. I still hold our messages Shaun man , ur a fuckin full on champ in my eyes. narrowly escaped death many times and now here to share and also physically make a difference. anyone who feels ill towards this show or him needs to get a grip , from where he came from to now is a 180 degree change for the better of his well being and life. period

THIS. The dialogue is barely audible, while the incidental sound is deafening - on a war film this is most irritating - bombs are loud, we all know that, yet, we continually need it reiterating?! I'd like, to be able to hear what that soldier quietly said, as he lay dying, more. All this technology, hailed as progress, but they're still unable to properly equalise sound...What really gets my goat, though, is the very deliberate way that adverts are deafening, much louder compared to the programme volume - it is literally designed to follow you to the kitchen as you put the kettle on, or further, to the toilet. Welcome to the dark (& bloody LOUD) ages.

Got friends with a great 'Scouser'. Looked mega tough. He taught physics at a uni, there. He also published books on studying for exams. He was highly intellectual and hilariously funny...but if you saw him on the street at night you'd instinctively form an escape plan. He was very happily married for 50 years until he passed away. Btw. I love Liverpool. So does my mum. She goes there every year on holiday. She's 90. 🤣

What I dislike about shows like this is how the hosts always make everything about themselves. You can't learn any history without the host's face everywhere, interjecting their opinion everywhere. This show would be so much better without the host.

There's a great documentary on KZbin about this bouncer guy Shaun Smith shown in this video. It's made by Vice and the reporter follows him through his daily routines of "legal" debt collecting, (he has his private debt collecting company), and his days in the local gym he owns.. There are couple of very interesting scenes in which he's trying to put a few guys on a straight path, mind you he does it in his own rough and tough guy persona way while he's revered by these youngsters as much as they're scared of him.. He has a right hand man, a gorilla type of a guy, all pumped up on roids with a tattoo over half of his face.. Shaun seems to trust him and considers him a friend.. Then by the end of the documentary Shaun realizes that this guy stole everything from him and ran away, leaving his flat full of needles and steroids.. You can see Shaun's face changing from the rage to pity, but you can see that if he saw him ever again his life would end abruptly and violently.. I advice everyone to watch this 50 minute documentary. It's great.
